@@gwynthh1756 yes that’s correct. The units I show in the video are called gateways. They’re router-modem combos in one unit. But you do need a router for WiFi
If you use an indoor antenna don't cheap out. Don't believe exaggerated range for cheap ones. If you live close to the broadcast towers the cheap ones will work. Look for one that has a coax cable fitting at the antenna and use a RG6 cable with triple or quad shielded cable. Antennas that come with a skinny cable permanently attached are garbage. I started with one and the pixelation was terrible. With a shielded cable results are excellent. I'm in my antenna setup about 40 bucks. If you are very far from the broadcast antenn🎉a you might have to have an roof mounted model.
Several years ago I was paying Comcast $234.00 a month for cable tv, phone, and internet service. I had been a Comcast customer since the 1980's. But, enough was enough. I dropped cable tv, kept the internet service and signed up for streaming services. I was still paying about $100.00 a month for internet service. But, lately AT&T fiber has come to my neighborhood. Now I'm paying half as much for twice the speed and lovin it.
We've been with Comcast Xfinity the last ten years for internet and cable tv, we didn't like the idea of going with satellite dish services, and there was no other worthy internet service that was wired in. But recently AT&T installed a large equipment pole on our street and I've been wondering if this is for wired internet... Can you please tell me what is the website for AT&T Fiber..? We are now very tired of the high costs of cable + internet with Comcast Xfinity and their extra bogus fees, and are inching our way towards cutting the cable service and only keeping the internet plan, and then signing up for a live tv streaming service. Thanks for your input about AT&T Fiber and how I can find out more info.
I am in the same boat as i am paying for cable, internet and home security and they bumped up the price to $260 a month. I do wanna keep their 1 gig internet (very reliable) but definitely want to get rid of tv. For home, i would like to look at other options. Any guidance would be much appreciated
@@belaalee One good thing is that it was easy to drop Comcast. When I went into the Comcast store to return my Comcast modem and drop my service, the person I spoke to just said, "Ok.". No, trying to talk me out of it, no offering lower rates, just a simple transaction. FWIW, I now use UA-cam TV as my main streaming service. But, there are lots of them available. See which one(s) are best for you.
@@belaalee The best thing I ever did with my TV was dumping cable. I kept the internet though. Got a $40 ROKU stick and signed up for Sling. It was so easy and worked so well I took all my cable TV boxes to the store and turned them in the next day. Good riddance. I'm in a major city so I put an antenna outside on my eve and I get major network channels for local news plus a bunch more. Now I'm looking at ATT fiber internet that is almost half of my cable internet service. Do it!
Thank you, We are cutting cable today, our bill went up $60 and we were informed that we are not getting the cable speed we are paying for with our outdated equipment. We have been with this company for 20 years. Just think if I had put a portion of that money toward an annuity. Geez Louise!!! Thank you for this valuable information. You are the best!!
Sounds like you're with the company that starts with "Xfin..." or ''Com..."? My cable TV/internet package has been going UP $20 every 6 months for the past 10 years. I remember it being around $100/mo in 2010 to now $296/mo! ... for two TVs. I could've saved $20,000.00
Xfinity and Comcast is the same company. Comcast is the parent company, as Xfinity is just their Provider for service: Internet, TV, and Phone. But in the past couple years, Comcast Xfinity was contacting individuals to upgrade their modem. Since most users were running DOCSIS 3.0. They were upgrading to 3.1 for faster speeds via DL/UL. Which I heard is currently happening. The problem with Comcast, like other provider companies is, people pays for x price for their device… and the company keeps taking your money; but never contacting you for a better one… for the same price.
Bought a good antenna, pointed it in the right direction, scanned channels, TV/antenna picked up 72 channels, removed the preachers, Spanish, QVC's, and duplicates, now have 18 channels, all the big networks, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and several locals. Don't pay a dime anymore for TV. Great HD picture. Life is good.
I didn't just cut the cable cord. I removed all broadcast television from my home. And I did it in 1997. It changed my life. The biggest impact it had with something I never saw coming: it virtually eliminated my consumerism. And one impact of that was because I stopped seeing food in restaurant commercials, I lost 55 lbs. 😎
Same here and the bill keeps going up every month for no apparent reason. Smh I cut them off got sling and internet saving $150 and got lots of channels
I’ve been with Comcast for 35+ years and my bill (with taxes) just topped $300! That’s about $10/day! 😱 This video has been very helpful for me to make the leap. 😂
I Have not had TV Cable over 6 years now and dont miss it at all . I have Fiber Optic internet 300 Mg down and 300 Mg upload speed for $31 a month and have a smart samsung TV that has built-in Roku TV and lots of other apps and internet
I’m telling you Michael the antenna pair with the sling air TV is one of the best combinations ever I can watch my local channels anywhere on my phone, tablet at any time. It has saved me so much money!
I agree completely. Sling with Sports Extra, together with my antenna give me all the sports I need. History Vault ($5/mo) on Prime has started charging extra to see the best History programs. So I cancelled it. Sling has a large library of the best History Channel programs, albeit they include ads.
DVR service is why I'm pretty much stuck with UA-cam TV. DIRECTV has a package I like, but at $84 they can keep it. I guess I could buy a little DVR to record off antenna, but don't want more clutter and extra remote.
I’m so glad I found your video. Thanks so much.. we are cutting the cord. I have Spectrum paying nearly $300. I can’t thank you enough. Great tutorial.💯
Cellular is location for each of us. I have T Mobile wireless and bundled their home internet is $30/month for life. Also with my T Mobile plan includes Netflix in SD on one screen at a time. Added some streaming services and way ahead of Spectrum internet/tv. Thanks for all the information you have always provided!
@@RichieColemanSrHi Richie-Seems to work well enough. I did T Mobile check if available in my area and initially reported not able to sign up. Months later checked again and was available and signed up. Location of tower is key and I live in two story house and recommended to set up near window on second floor. I relocated my wireless router to upstairs and for added coverage added network extenders that connected to my router. This was not absolutely needed but did not want drop. The T Mobile unit is modem and has ethernet port and wireless but wanted to use my router. Just checked internet and download is 146 Mbps and upload is 27 Mbps. This is wireless speeds and better than I had with Spectrum. Some people who have better coverage have reported faster speeds than I. I have IPTV service and various streaming apps and almost never have any hiccups with service.
I am so glad I found your videos! I have had the Comcast triple-play bundle for years and years, and while it once made economic sense, it no longer does as they have raised their price three times in under five months. Today's bill is ten bucks more than last month's, which was ten bucks more than the month before. I still use a home phone and have accepted that I will have to use my cell all the time. I am nervous about changing so much tech in my life all at once, especially as I am not very tech-savvy. There is no competition for Comcast where I live but I won't continue to allow them to take financial advantage of me. People like you, Michael, perform an important-and comforting-service. Thanks.
So are you going to internet only? Xfinity Mobile (Verizon network) isn’t a bad service if you don’t have something lined up for cell phone. I used it as my primary carrier a few years ago and have lots of content on it. But I also understand why some people want to get as far away from their cable provider as possible. Good luck.
I'm in the same boat Kathleen. Been with Comcast Cable since 2004 when it was under $100/mo.with AT&T INTERNET for $35/mo.. Now my Comcast/Xfinity bundle is $296/mo. Every few months the bill just kept going UP & up & up & up??
I switched to TMobile for my internet. Some areas may not have as good service but I've been on it for year and it has been literally flawless for $50 a month unlimited. I have a cell through Boost Infinite for $20 per month. Cox alone was charging me $100 a month for internet only and it was always going down.
I haven’t had television for about 5 years and don’t miss it. I get my news on You Tube and can find almost everything I need to know on line. I have plenty of DVDs to watch and can get more audio books and DVDs from the library.
I switched to streaming in November 2023. I chose UA-cam TV because I do like to watch the news at night and live news. I also like some of the stations. But to be honest now that I am over my learning curve, I watch regular UA-cam on my TV the most. Lots of content, I can skip through the commercials. I'm going to keep UA-cam TV for at least a year and then I'll decide whether I'm going to keep it.
I got access to UA-cam TV through a friend, and frankly, not being able to fast forward through the long commercial breaks is kind of a deal-breaker. I am trying to find out if Philo TV allows fast-forwarding through commercials, because if so, I will probably switch and just use my antenna and DVR for local channels.
@@stageactor1958 I can now. I figured out what I was doing wrong. When I would add programs to my library, UA-cam TV would add on demand versions of shows that had already aired. I am actually able to fast forward through commercials on recorded programs.
If you decide not to keep UA-cam TV, Pluto TV has a great selection of news channels for free. You can also get an antenna and watch all your local news channels for free.
I watch UA-cam on TV also, why wouldn't I; it big and what I watch most. I have UA-cam Premium for $15 a month. There are no commercials to fast-forward through, because they are not there. The point of paying is to eliminate them, which it does. It's great for movies too; no interruptions! Some UA-camrs will advertise something in their videos, but that's not something YT knows to cut out, so I do FF through those, but they're not really commercials, they're sponsored "suggestions". lol But real commercials? I never see them.
I can’t believe I threw money out the window for so long. Went from 228 per month to $119 a YEAR for peacock. I have a couple other apps that are easy to access as well through my iPad or iPhone. Those total only around 25$ a month. I didn’t realize I didn’t need a lot of channels. I have my favorites and access to alllll the movies I can watch ♥️
Thank you so much for posting this. I was talking about this very subject with my family the other day. Our current bundled package of cable tv/internet and phone is $338 a month which is way too much. I called today to see about cancelling cable tv which is $166 + per month and includes 3 cable boxes ($13.50 monthly), whole house DVR service ($19.99 monthly), plus several other charges like taxes and a $25 + per month broadcast tv surcharge! HBO/Max$16 $16.00 pm. Most of this crap we don’t even watch! We’re being charged $110 pm for internet. Extremely costly. Definitely cutting out cable tv. We do have a landline ($23 pm) and 3 cellphones (separate billing for the cellphones $89). I hate to add it all up, but, $338 + $89 is what we pay to Spectrum monthly. I guess they love us! So embarrassing. We also have Netflix and Amazon Prime (cancelling Prime). Three folks in the house are “gamers” and use their computers a lot for work and/or school. However, this old lady is being ripped off! 🤦🏽♀️
You didn't really cut the cord then or save any money. By the time you add the internet back it's the same cost. At this point it's usually cheaper to stream thru your cable provider because you get bundle discounts
It is possible to pay as much for streaming as cable, but this is not the case for the great majority. I have about 30 channels, most free, and I like all the content. With cable, I probably watched 10% of the programs. I pay around $30/month, as opposed to $100+ back around 10 years ago. Thanks for this video, Michael. It's very well done.
Michael, I’m so glad I found your channel you give excellent advice in plain English. You have a very good speaking voice with a lot of personality. Keep up the good work.
If you're paying for hundreds of channels and only watching a hand full, you're WAY overpaying for your service. The channels on streaming are the same channels except you can at least get it for half the price. Just buy the internet access, your streaming service and your streaming boxes. Once you pay for the streaming boxes there's no more monthly cable box rental fees.
Problem is I watch a few shows on Netflix, a few on HBO, a few on hulu, a few on disney, a few on paramount and a few on peacock plus I want to watch movies that keep popping up as yt or philo.. now I'm paying more than cable or paying for 2 at a time then always in the mood for one I don't have currently.
Michael I feel like an old pro now thanks to you, but I still enjoyed watching this as I do all your videos. I did want to add one thing of my own--if you get an indoor antenna but only get a 1-2 ota channels, it might be the age of your tv. Thats what happened to me. Got a Mohu Leaf, only got my local NBC channel. But it was a 32" 2011 Panasonic. In 2020 I decided to get a bigger tv, a 43" LG and using the exact same Mohu antenna I got ALL my local channels in fact 65 channels total.
My tv is a 42 inches LED Panasonic, and with my RCA antenna, i scan 38 channels here in Boston, some stronger than others, but i’m good, i be more on my laptop than watching television all day😅
I cancelled my cable tv service in 2023 and bought an amazon fire cube in order to replace it as I do not have a smart tv. I then cancelled my subscriptions to several apps/channels that I was not watching very often. Finally, I bought a Motorola modem and returned my cable modem. I have not signed up for a non-free live tv streaming service. Because of these steps I am saving approximately $100.00 a month vs what I was paying when I had cable tv service.
This is very helpful. I have been wanting to switch to streaming, mostly because the channel selections with Dish and other cables companies is lousy. So many channels that I don't want to watch. My hesitation to switching to streaming is that I am not techie at all and am very nervous about trying to figure it all out.
Wow! I am a DUMMIE when it comes to all of this and have been watching from my 10 year old TV with no cable (as of a year ago) and just a ROKU which is so-so. I'm about to get a new TV for my family and have been confused at how to live stream certain sporting events (100% for my son) at the same time since they will be broadcast on different stations (whatever it's called). You've totaly narrowed this down for me! Thank you so much!
Many of those apps (channels) will be on your new TV already. Many services will offer a free trial, but be careful to keep track of that. If not, you'll find a library to add them. Just don't go crazy subscribing to a bunch of services; it can add up, but some are totally free. I think Amazon Prime (which comes with Amazon Prime shipping) has some live sporting events, but check. I think they have Thursday NFL games. You don't need ESPN if your sport is available on another streaming service that you also like, so check your options, you'll enjoy the experience, plus your son will might know most of this depending on his age. Pick a budget and stay within it. You can always cancel one, and subscribe to another. Since your post 9 months ago, I'm not talking just to you here and hope you had good luck!
Thank u! I'm subscribed to Tyler & I JUST subscribed to you. I can never learn too much. When I was in my late 60's, I installed an outdoor RCA antenna into my old Directv post @ my trailer I rent. Did this 5yrs ago. I'm out in the "boonies" but avg 47-55 channels. I have to go out & rotate it every Spring (tree obstacles/leaves) & back again in the Fall, but NO $60 monthly bills! Indoor antennas only gave me around 30 channels. It's not perfect, but better than tin foil rabbit ears, & I'm satisfied. 👍🇺🇸
Very informative, this guy really did his research and it's spot on! My problem is cutting my cable would also cut my 3 part bundle price...I would lose my landline discount which is basically free. So in order to cut my cable bill. It would wind up being nearly the same every month after I lose the 3 bundle package price. Thank you for your advice!
Dish just jacked my bill $40 a month. Enough. I am streaming Paramount & Peacock. Love them both. And I have Roku cause my TV is old. Here's my problem. I am addicted to my DVR. I need to be able to DVR on my streaming devices. Also, Michael, Roku is not free. I pay $12 a month. Thank you for this video. It is extremely helpful and I really enjoyed it!
What is costing you $12/month with Roku? It only costs money if you have subscriptions tied to it. In place of DVR, can you use the WatchList in Paramount Plus and Peacock?
Roku has always been free for me on both my Roku TV and my other ones also. I've never heard of paying for Roku, although they may have some live TV service I'm not aware of.
Thank you for the thorough tutorial. I’ve been meaning to cut the cord but, never invested the to learn how. You’ve made it easy to figure out how to customize my budget.
Something else to consider if you go heavy into streaming is you may need to buy a better more modern router, When I cut the cord and went exclusively to streaming for TV I found my old router which was fine for basic internet use struggled with the higher demand for TV streaming

I cut the cord back in 1995, long before it was a thing. Back then, I was content with my video collection, and I could always get the news from papers or people I knew. Now with the internet, there is only ONE reason to keep cable going, and that's sports broadcasting. Well, since that means less than nothing to me, I miss absolutely nothing by keeping my money. :)
I just cut Comcast TV this week and went with youtube tv. Your videos are very helpful. I have an older non smart tv and am using Chromecast to stream. I had to purchase a TV remote because I had to turn in my Comcast remote. Everything is working well.
Tried to drop cable because I don’t watch it. Lady sold me a BS package (no local channels) and actually asked, “Where’s your husband?” “ HE’S DEAD.” WHY DO I NEED A HUSBAND TO CANCEL CABLE?!?!?!
Wow! I'm with Comcast/Xfinity & they will ONLY SPEAK WITH the person the account is under. My wife said she won't even bother to try to talk to them as they need ME in the background relaying the answers.

Michael, thank you so much for doing the research and taking the time to put your videos out. Your simple explanations have been so helpful and enlightening, especially for us older guys who feel like we have been left behind in this high-tech world. I know that I have been paying way too much for cable, just because I don't like change. Thanks Again !
EXCELLENT video with very detailed and useful tips that are presented in a very organized way. Been using UA-cam TV but the costs are adding up with other streaming platforms. Trying to focus solely on the channels we watch regularly. Thank you!
I cut the cord over a decade ago. Streaming is the new normal. I just moved into an apartment complex rental that offers free unlimited decent WiFi internet service. I purchased two Roku TVs to go with that. Now I have endless free entertainment, no cable bills. I get Netflix free with my cellphone plan and only watch free streaming channels/apps and I get local channels too. Sweet! 😊
Thank you, Michael. I found your videos on your website but there was a lot of jittering and no video. Thank you for your extremely valuable help. I'm about to switch and I appreciate all these tips.
Been a cord cutter since 2011. Currently I pay for cable internet only + Amazon Prime annual. Otherwise there is a ton of content to watch on free services such as plain old UA-cam, Tubi TV, Pluto TV, Freevee, Local Now and much more. I'll soon get around to reinstalling my TV and getting an antenna. Currently watch most of my content on my Mac with a large monitor.
I watch on my TV, but use my laptop on my coffee table to comment or answer them. Paying $15 for commercial free UA-cam is the best investment I made in streaming. I wish it was cheaper, but it is maddening without Premium. It's not the max plan or whatever service that is, but I didn't need that. It was hard to watch waiting for a commercial every time you wanted to just look at something for a few seconds. It's great when watching movies too, and they have some good ones. I get Amazon Prime also, but that comes with their shipping service. Paramount+ is great if you love Star Trek and those free ones you mentioned are great also. Absolutely no reason to have cable TV anymore. I haven't had cable since maybe before you did; whenever Netflix came out with streaming and sending out DVDs (2007 I think). Saved enough to buy my car that's now paid for. It might as well have been free!
Wow! You’ve covered just about EVERYTHING about cutting that overly-expensive cable cord! I’m down to streaming only with Spectrum and now I think I’m almost ready to cut that Spectrum cord COMPLETELY! I already get free Netflix via my t-Mobile Unlimited 5G Phone Plan and I’m ready to sample some of the many suggestions you’ve provided! You’ve given me so many options to consider and I THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for that!!! 👍😊
I have Spectrum internet/wi-fi only. But somehow it sends a guide and a bunch of TV channels to my TV for free; some good ones too at $37/mo. (my phone is $20). I don't have cable TV, haven't for years. Just get a couple streaming services cheap and save.
@ Wow! That’s awesome! I’m going to cancel my Spectrum streaming service of $86.50 a month and keeping only Spectrum internet which is costing me $90.99 a month and then, in a few months, I’ll be dumping Spectrum internet and replacing it with the much cheaper T-mobile 5G internet service! I’ll probably watch UA-cam videos instead for a while! I’ll be done with all those rip-off franchise and broadcast surcharges forever! Goodbye Spectrum! Yay!!!!😀🎉🥳🎊🍾
@@Bohemian-Nilda My internet with Spectrum was $90 also but I called about a speed test issue, and there was an update needed for their equipment (or that's what they said anyway). They asked what I used it for and according to them, I didn't need more that 100 mbps. I was only getting like 18 before they fixed it, and even then I was using my phone, laptop, and TV streaming. While on the phone it increased to over about 120 mbps and they changed my bill to $37 per month and I didn't even ask them to. I didn't even know they had a plan that cheap and I asked for how long and they said, "As long as you want". This was about 3 months ago and I've been with them about 4 years because they are the only company that services my address.
@@Bohemian-Nilda Just to be clear, $37 is for my internet & wi-fi only with Spectrum. Sounded like you already have Spectrum so call and ask if that's less than T-Mobile (do you watch that on TV?). I was paying $90 and I did a speed test really just to check it. It was less that 20mbps, so I called about it. I'm not sure, but I think I was paying for up for 400mbps (not sure about that part), which I wasn't getting 20. My service wasn't slow, I just out of the blue decided to do a test. They did whatever they do on their end, and reset my equipment, then the rep asked me to hold on and they'd check something. They came back and asked if I wanted my bill to be lowered to $37 for 100 mbps and they said with my usage and for what I was running, I would never use 400 mbps, so of course I said yes. She said she would make that change, it was not a temporary offer, and that was it. Since I had been running my phone, TV streaming, laptop and PC, on 20 mbps anyway, 100 mbps is plenty (although it comes over at 120mbps). I watch UA-cam on my TV, but not sure that takes up anymore bandwidth than a phone would. When I signed up 4 years ago, the introductory rate was $50, then it went up $70, and up again to $90 (strangely, It's never a $3 increase). I don't know where this price point comes from, nor did I ask. I just wanted that price and to get off the phone before they changed their mind. I might help to know I have 7 devices connected to the internet (including Blue Rays and extra phones I use for light gaming and backups, but I don't use more than one phone or computer at a time (I do use 2 streaming TVs at once) and I live alone, so no one else is using anything. I don't know why, but when internet an wi-fi is on, my TV gets an entire channel guide with I boatload of channels and also music channels. It isn't something I pay for, and I don't know why it's there. It's not "cable TV per se", it's just something that shows up and has been there since the inception of my internet service and may just be a perk, because I never had TV with them. If internet goes out, it goes out too and I just get my antenna channels. The shows that are on it are like cable shows, they're old game shows, cooking shows, "Daktari" (for those who remember that), and stuff you normally don't watch anyway. If you've read this far, this may be the secret. If the rep you are talking to says they don't know of that plan, say "thanks" hang up and call back and speak to someone else. I talked to a few people before I got someone to offer it to me. That last rep I talked to was the fist and only one who mentioned a price reduction. It does matter who you talk to and how you talk to them. Be super nice, it makes a difference. If you get someone with a sour attitude, say you're sorry, have to go and will call back later. Prices are rounded to the nearest dollar. I don't like using artificially sounding prices like $36.99, but that's exactly what the service cost is, (which is really $37.00 in my book), but there is no tax or fees on top of that.
I've been a UA-cam TV subscriber since it was first available in my area. It was great in the beginning, somewhere around $45-$50 a month and now I'm paying $100 and rarely even use it. I think for most people once they ditch any sort of cable TV whether it's from a local provider or live tv streaming service, they'll realize they don't even miss it. We mainly watch on demand content, Apple TV, regular UA-cam, MAX, and Netflix. As you said that's where the best content is anyway. The only thing keeping regular cable tv and streaming tv providers in business is sports content, i.e. ESPN. Once it goes a la carte, they're done.
I cut Spectrum 5 years ago, I was paying over $200 a month. I got an antenna and I have about 45 channels, my Wi-Fi is with Zirrus which has been great, much better than Spectrum which was slow. I also have Philo and I pay $26 for some cable stations.
Great information. I cut the cord 4 years ago and don't look back. My problem is that 5G is not available in my area. My internet costs $107 a month over these 4 years. I am a senior and am eligible for $25 a month 5G if it were available.
Why do you pay so much for your internet? It really shouldn't cost more than $50. You don't need the highest speed available. I pay $80/mo for 600 Mbps speed and no cap.
@ruslsdad I know. Who do you get your internet from? We don't have 5G in our area either, so we get it from Sparklight who we used to get our cable from. I'm just curious why it's so high.
@jimroscovius I get it from Comporium cable. I started with them when we got here and dumped the phone, then dumped the tv. All I use from them is the internet. I have Verizon for phone service. I have been asking them for the last 7 years. They advertise it heavily, but don't offer it.
We pay about the same for internet alone. In our location we only have comcast and verizon to choose from. The cheaper internet providers are in other parts of our city,
Thank you, Michael, for all of the help you've given me over the years. Cut the cord years ago, and switched my phone service based on your recommendations. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!
I for one appreciate all the useful information you provided to help people like me save money and figure out the best way to pick and choose what kind of streaming and internet services would work best.
Another thing to remember when deciding on internet only plan is if you work remotely and rely on the same internet connection to work remotely, you may need to jump to the 400-600 Mbps plan. Consider also wired connections in home may be faster and more reliable than wireless. Having newer networking equipment is usually better. Also unless you have a guaranteed level of service (internet connection speed) then your speed from your provider can vary sometimes widely out of the expected range. Great video and great content.
I'm hardwired to DSL line for nine years now. As a remote medical coder, I download jumbo charts without hesitation. No outages. No price hikes. Standard is 45/month.
Last week I went to my cable company office to end the service since I was paying more than $90 monthly for 500 megas, basic tv and phone. They lowered my price to $50.00 per month for one year. Also they told me that the company is upgrading to fiber soon and that they will replace all of the equipment (basically the modem/router) for every customer. They already moved their tv service to IPTV and the tv box connects via WiFi only.
If you live in California the monopoly of FIOS is only available through Frontier, in some areas. At least that law was last year, 2023. Look this up to verify.

Got Verizon fiber 200 Meg for $19.99 for 10 years! Unbelievable! As long as i have it come out of my bank account monthly. Love it. Use IPTV legal and not so legal to get cable new. Dont watch a lot of television since Supernatural went off in 2015. Lol
I cut the cord 10 years ago. Smartest thing I ever did. I no longer use Netflix or Disney or Hulu. I use the free channels. I have Prime and Paramount free with Amazon and Walmart services. I subscribe to Discovery Plus, Britbox, and Acorn. British TV is a million times better than American TV in my opinion. Love Vera, Shetland, etc.
Streaming since November 2022 and working great. Using t- mobile 5g internet, which capably handles 2 tvs at hd quality, 2 phones, 2 laptops and consistently downloads at 200+ mbps. Wondering if anyone is having reduced internet speeds due to usage saturation
We have you tube tv and frndly for wife channels like hallmark and lifetime. My son in law has Fubo because he’s into lots of sports. You are the expert on cord cutting. We used your advice when we cut. Just curious as to what you see as the next level of tv
FuboTV is probably your most expensive live TV service because it offers your regional sports network. So that is an option if you want to get rid of cable and keep your RSN but it’s really not that much cheaper than cable
I have Hulu Live now bc I like watching live sports, like NBA and NFL but I constantly frustrated with Hulu. The live stream for games constantly freezes or there is a message about a problem with connecting. Then there is no customer service w/Hulu. No one to call or talk to. And most of these companies have no customer service.. I shouldn’t have to pay when I can’t see all the game because it freezes constantly…. Thanks for the good info abut cord cutting..
Don’t forget, regular news (not local) is often streamed or packaged for a video on regular UA-cam. They also do sports, like college football, with delayed showings that cut out everything except the plays. So, if you’re like me, most games (except for my team, lol) I might be interested in, but it’s much better to watch a 30 minute video with all the plays than to waste 3-4 hours of a Saturday when I could be outside, enjoying the fall weather. Thanks for the video.
Biggest issue I am currently seeing is much of the new programming has been moving behind singular channel or service subscription services. Start adding in all the required singular plans one needs today then the first thing you know you are back to paying the full price you were paying before. Just to give an example is like the popular Yellowstone spinoffs are behind the Paramount+ service or now take some NFL games are on the NFL channel while Thursday games are Amazon Prime subscription required. I actually keep You Tube TV as much for the included free DRV as I prefer to watch tv on my schedule rather than the networks but I hate paying the $85 a month because of the sports plan I have to add to get some programming I like.
I rotate between Sling and Fubo due to the football programming. Fubo has the football I love, so after the season, it’s back to Sling for us. Good info.
My Comcast would go up, I'd renegotiate and then it would creep back up again. Finally, at $300 (only cable and internet) I got UA-cam TV (family version) and UA-cam Premium (family version - 5 individuals on one account). Save about $140/mth and looking for another internet provider (Comcast is very dominant in our area).
Very good. I have a tool to help people check internet plans in their area: michaelsaves.com/internet-plan-comparison-tool/ YTTV is compatible with the 5G options.
I have finally ditched my cable TV supplier after 15 years. I haggled for a better deal, but they all but laughed in my face. So, bye-bye, Virgin Media. I have a smart TV, and I forgot how useful it is. Thank you, sir, for this fantastic information. I subbed of course.
I have Philo but rarely watch TV much anymore. When I do watch TV I watch more PlutoTV then any thing else. I have an antenna on the roof so can watch local TV channels if I want.
If you DVR a program through Philo TV, can you fast-forward through the commercials? I currently have access to UA-cam TV, which has a DVR that does not allow fast forwarding through their very long commercial breaks, and I am finding that to be somewhat of a deal-breaker.
Well done,I cancelled I cut the cord earlier this year when the price increased to $186 with spectrum,I kept the internet and have a few streaming services that I enjoy watching,vs the cable service that I was not watching at all that’s when I made the decision to make a change,I am glad I did, your suggestion about trying out new streaming services with ads is a good idea to help lower the cost, even the ads with Prime is not that annoying.

The funny thing is that when you add up streaming services, generally it costs about as much as having cable or satelite TV. The only major difference (and potential plus side) is you can watch your shows while you travel (which you may not be able to do with cable or satelite TV service, although many cable companies do offer streaming now too). But from a cost standpoint, unless you go down to maybe one or two streaming services, it will probably cost roughly the same in the end, especailly considering if you have Internet with cable, you probably get a bundle deal for both, whereas you'd lose the bundle deal pricing if you just went to Internet only, and the streaming services will probably fill in the difference and wipe out any potential savings, leaving it either only slightly cheaper or possibly even cost the same/more.
We have much different experiences. My cable bill was around $200 for 300+ channels of which maybe I watched 3 and I had to sign 1 year contracts. Now I pay a $35 Internet bill and a $20 streaming bill (I rotate streaming services), and have access to much more content it seems like. Now, I don't watch sports at that seems to be where a lot of cost comes in for people. Between rising cable costs, decline in number of interesting original content on cable (once niche-casting went away it really lowered the amount of content I was interested in), and increasing amount of ads on cable, I don't miss it at all. Maybe some day costs will catch up to where they were with cables, but I suspect that is at least a decade away.
I prefer to separate the cost of Internet and TV. The internet connection in my house is a "need" for many different things I use throughout the day where as the TV is just one of those things and gets used much less than say my computer or phone. So for my household (since cutting the cord with Comcast) internet is $65 (fiber w/no fees) and TV is $8 per month. Comcast was up to $220 when I finally closed the account.
Makes sense and that's fine! You have to do what works for you. I lay it out this way so people don't say "what about internet?" in the comments. There are people who have cable TV and not internet -- mostly satellite subscribers.
Because of my physical location I can’t use an antenna and streaming is very expensive. I wish I could find a way to just watch local tv without paying so much.
I unfortunately have xfinity for cable and internet. I literally pay $305 A MONTH!!!!! I literally pay cable bill as a car insurance payment. I’m looking for live tv so I can watch my local stations, Fox News, cnn, ION, ESPN, weather channel, nfl network, USA, TBS, and channels to watch college football, college baseball and NHL HOCKEY. Which one should I choose cause I can’t afford the xfinity cable subscription anymore. It’s out of control and they take channels away from from you and then raise your plan when you call and ask for other options
What is your opinion of using a Super Box that has no subscription fees for premium streaming channels? They are legal in the USA and are available at Walmart and other retailers.
Thanks for watching. If you've got any other cord-cutting tips, add them in the comments!
Hi Michael! Thanks a bunch for your very generous tips. To confirm, if you have a smart (8 years old) but also want wifi, a router is needed, correct?

In the town I live in, Comcast is the only Internet option there is. No one else even sells in my area. We got the shaft. Hard.
Now I'm
looking at ATT fiber internet that is almost half of my cable internet service. Do it!
I cut my cable cord in 2007. Never looked back. It saved my sanity especially during a certain recent period when the world went quite mad.
Yes, Cable News Legacy Media has brainwashed millions. They went hard core in 2015.
Ditto ebonyclark
Xfinity and Comcast is the same company. Comcast is the parent company, as Xfinity is just their Provider for service: Internet, TV, and Phone.
But in the past couple years, Comcast Xfinity was contacting individuals to upgrade their modem. Since most users were running DOCSIS 3.0. They were upgrading to 3.1 for faster speeds via DL/UL. Which I heard is currently happening.
The problem with Comcast, like other provider companies is, people pays for x price for their device… and the company keeps taking your money; but never contacting you for a better one… for the same price.

Annuity?
I just did it. Called Comcast and it's Good Bye! New smart tv and I'll be fine. Saving $170./month. Thanks, Michael!
Bought a good antenna, pointed it in the right direction, scanned channels, TV/antenna picked up 72 channels, removed the preachers, Spanish, QVC's, and
duplicates, now have 18 channels, all the big networks, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS and several locals. Don't pay a dime anymore for TV. Great HD picture. Life is good.
Which antenna did you buy? I’m in the process if changing from spectrum to maybe Verizon but will not include tv
Ditched directv in January. Saved a boatload of money and I got up off my big ass and finally started doing projects around the house
Maybe this is why I can’t get my house projects done
Good information! My cable + wifi bill was $268.00 this month and I don't even have premium channels. It has gotten insane.
Same here and Xfinity will not give me a lower price..Been with them 30 years 😒
Same here and the bill keeps going up every month for no apparent reason.
Thanks for this. Glad Antenna + Air TV is working for you!
Hulu until hockey season ends...,philo or sling for the rest of the year ..😊
@@Bob_Adkins Sling gives you free DVR in the Cloud. I record my favorite shows so DVR availability was a must.
I went from a high $258 spectrum cable bill. I replaced my cable with an antenna and stream the internet for 54.99 unlimited.

This was one of the best, well thought out, very informative videos I have ever seen. I just became a cord cutter today. Thank you!
If you cut the cord, do you still have phone and internet?

Cellular is location for each of us. I have T Mobile wireless and bundled their home internet is $30/month for life. Also with my T Mobile plan includes Netflix in SD on one screen at a time. Added some streaming services and way ahead of Spectrum internet/tv. Thanks for all the information you have always provided!
How do you like T-Mobile Internet?
Same here, and I can buy new DVDs for $1 a piece from a friend.
@@Tes7000 Do you mean that you can't fast forward through commercials on a DVR recorded program?
Thanks! Great overview AND specific guide.
Thank you!
I finally cut the cord! And I’m loving UA-cam tv!😂❤
Interesting! Good tip!
My tv is a 42 inches LED Panasonic, and with my RCA antenna, i scan 38 channels here in Boston, some stronger than others, but i’m good, i be more on my laptop than watching television all day😅
I tried the antenna thing and only got one local news channel and some random weird channel I never watched.
Good to know!!
I pay for multiple on demand streaming apps and it still comes out cheaper than UA-cam TV alone. Thanks for the video!😊
Another well presented informational video.. Cut the cord last march and have not looked back.. Thanks
Nice! This is the way to go!
As another long-time cord cutter since 2009, your advice was spot on. Well done.
Thanks! terrific. anticipated so many questions people have. rw

Thank you for the thorough tutorial. I’ve been meaning to cut the cord but, never invested the to learn how. You’ve made it easy to figure out how to customize my budget.
Something else to consider if you go heavy into streaming is you may need to buy a better more modern router, When I cut the cord and went exclusively to streaming for TV I found my old router which was fine for basic internet use struggled with the higher demand for TV streaming

What a nightmare! Competence of people working in technology these days and we just made it too expensive for Americans to receive an education, so we import employees in from other countries. Countries. Special Visas tripled under the trump administration, and yeah over 6 years and many of those people are still here on those special visas, now married and having children!
Gotcha nap
Sweet! 😊
Thank you, Micheal! I've cancelled the other cord cutting UA-cam channels and only kept yours!
@ Wow! $37 is incredible! Thanks for sharing! Perhaps I should reconsider getting rid of their internet! 👍
Thanks!
Thank you!
I cut my cable co wow about 4 yr ago and now use antenna and get 48 channels
Love not having a $200 bill each month
I have Roku also
I cut Spectrum 5 years ago, I was paying over $200 a month. I got an antenna and I have about 45 channels, my Wi-Fi is with Zirrus which has been great, much better than Spectrum which was slow. I also have Philo and I pay $26 for some cable stations.
Very nice! Hope you're putting the savings to good use.
@@jimroscovius it's the going rate. I explained it above.
Thank you. Happy to help!
@@MichaelSaves you're the Best! I tell everyone that I've learned everything from you.
55 for fiber from at&t 1gig speed .. waiting for sonic, 10gig speed 55 bucks..
@@hipoink1615can you tell me what company you have internet with? I’m a remote medical code also. Thanks for any info.

What company s that?
@@janecheung7696 Liberty (in Puerto Rico) and the other one is Claro (telephone and mobile company) but it's also expensive and their customers are always complaining.
@@janecheung7696 That's Liberty in Puerto Rico and USVI.
The best instructional video I’ve seen. Lots of great info. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Buy yourself a $79 TabloTV OTA DVR to record local channels and playback when you want. Very handy if you're not going to get UA-camTV with a DVR.
had my grandparents watch this to cut cable major help thank you
Don’t forget, regular news (not local) is often streamed or packaged for a video on regular UA-cam.
Well done you are an expert
Thank you for tutorial work but practical and experimental work are needed
I rotate between Sling and Fubo due to the football programming. Fubo has the football I love, so after the season, it’s back to Sling for us. Good info.
Great idea,no cbs in sling tv either.
Mike, great presentation you covered all the bases in a great manner.
I like Philo. Been using it for several months and it has more of what I like to watch than not
If you DVR a program through Philo TV, can you fast-forward through the commercials? I currently have access to UA-cam TV, which has a DVR that does not allow fast forwarding through their very long commercial breaks, and I am finding that to be somewhat of a deal-breaker.
Thanks so much for helping us newbies. Great step by step information.

Yes but cable wants you to sign a contract. With the streaming you can cancel anytime.
Superbox or Tanggulu, people....
My payment just went over 300 a month, so I'm changing. Great Video
Wow! Bravo. That was an outstanding video packed with very useful information and well thought through. Excellent work! 👍😎👍
Fairly straightforward + beneficial video.
Very informative for new streamers.thank you😊
DVRing is my biggest issue. Not that I need to do it a lot.
Thank you for the video! I've been toying with the idea to get rid of cable and these steps really help.
Mike, this was an AMAZING video. Thank you!
Unfortunately we need our home phone which is provided by Xfinity. Mom can't operate a cell phone.
I was told if I cut the cord, I'd be busted for vandalism. :) Happy New Year Michael. Thanks for all the great content. '
The C.G.I. image of you is really good, 9 out of 10.
My Xfinity bill just went from 180 to 240 today I am out
I am trying to learn about streaming want to cut the cord
Same!!
Because of my physical location I can’t use an antenna and streaming is very expensive. I wish I could find a way to just watch local tv without paying so much.
Always Always on point
Thanks for today's live stream have a wonderful 2024
Thanks for watching! Happy 2024!
Check UA-cam TV's channel lineup. I have a section of this video dedicated to live TV services. You can definitely save by following the steps!

What is your opinion of using a Super Box that has no subscription fees for premium streaming channels? They are legal in the USA and are available at Walmart and other retailers.
Hello Michael. How many TV's can you use You Tube TV on? We have 6 tv's. Thank you for what you do
As many as you want! Just only 3 streams at a time
