  • I know you have been waiting for this video for quite some time. It is honestly so hard to film it as well as concentrate on what I was doing while being extra careful not to damage my filming equipment because of the messy process. So, I didn’t do a perfect batch of papers but that’s the truth about handmade paper, they will never always be perfect but you learn from each experience and get better at it. The key to making it or anything is really just practice and learning. I will have some resources and links below for you all. I hope you enjoy and just want to thank those who are offering to answer questions in the comments, it really is helpful and useful to others and we can all learn from each other. I think this is the last of the highly requested videos, if you have any other videos you want me to film, do let me know. Take care my friends and see you guys soon 🤎

    * Plywood boards from the hardware store (ACE if you’re in the UAE). Just have them cut to the size you need and remember to seal the wood to avoid water damage.
    * C-Clamps from the hardware store (ACE)
    * Blender: Get a blender that can handle blending more solid material/ ice crushing option sold me 😂 but the first one I was using was terrible and would constantly stop mid way.

    Now I know why these "recycled" papers are so expensive. They use a lot of resources to turn fancy paper into fancier paper. As always, reuse is always better and come first before recycle.

    • @dianaanonymous5794
      @dianaanonymous5794 3 роки тому +69

      true!! the order is always refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle. recycling is always the last resort and is used when u cannot find other ways conserve

      Reused paper are expensive? ...it is much less expensive then the non reused one in our place

    • @SoftlyStudio
      @SoftlyStudio  3 роки тому +122

      It's recycled cotton rag so technically recycled but it's not the "recycling" you had in mind. Like reused paper. These are processed fibers from renewable fibers which are quite sustainable. I do not use trees to make paper or materials that are nonrenewable. And the papers are not why they are expensive. Yes, raw materials and supplies affect the cost but most handmade papermakers charge for the actual process to make them as it takes so much time and you make way less than machine-made papers. 😊

    What is sizing? Wait let me google it. Edit: ahhh so it’s the thing that gives paper its ink retaining quality. Like the it makes the difference between water color and regular paper. Makes sense

    • @SoftlyStudio
      @SoftlyStudio  4 роки тому +125

      Yes! It's actually for any ink to be accepted. Otherwise ink will bleed. So even regular paper needs sizing to be able to write on it, not just watercolor paper.

      Thank you so much. I can see why you may feel like that. For me music helps me edit and inspires me to make the cuts as I go by the beat. but I also find it kind of depends when I use them and when I don't. If I want to get lost with the video, then music takes me there but if certain activities already has interesting sounds, like paper making, I think the music is not necessary. It is also hard to choose the right songs with UA-cam since you can get copyrighted. but yea I love both I guess 🙈

    Nice video. One thing that has helped me flatten the paper is after you take them off of the blotters...to then do a light spray of water on the paper. The paper should flatten out and it will help you when you’re laying and doing the final press. I have also used a fan on that final press to help quicken the process.

    One Day, I would like to be able to learn how to use my scraps of paper and waste less overall. It would be a great at-home recycling project for any and all ages. I love the meticulously of this process. It turned VERY beautiful by comparison to other videos. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
