In 2008, international games were ads for players so value would increase by a lot if you played well. In 2024, if you play in most leagues in the world, there are advanced analytics and videos are much more easily available now. This makes the international tournaments not nearly as useful for selling players.

This panel is viewing it through a US lens for a non-FIFA sanctioned tournament. Will CBS release Charlie Davies for some random event in mid-season?

Meanwhile, news broke today that Gio Reyna will travel with Borussia Dortmund Asia friendly. Playing friendly games rather than playing in competitive tournament is not going to improve Reyna or the USMNT. He should be starting for the USMNT and playing in the Olympics tournament. Matt Crocker need to pick up the phone and encourage the mangers of all these clubs to release their U.S. players to play in the competitive olympic tournament. Thats his job as USMNT sporting director.

But this isnt a fifa tournament. Clubs arent obligated to release players to participate in this tournament. Friendly or not, he will still get minutes added to his full time obligation in copa (which he could have many, many hours on the pitch during the summer already. Players needs rest too.) Yes he is eligible, but i think the match congestion would tire gio pretty quickly once the regular season rolls around. Besides, matt crocker is currently busy with finding the "best" coach for the usmnt.

BVB is not affiliated to the US or USSF. They can care less about some Olympic tournament ahead of a very long season.

So, bypassing the midfield, pumping balls down the channels and trying to hit the target man up top. USSF has actually regressed since 2002.

Why do US fans think they have a chance of going all the way at the Olympics? What are they basing this optimism on?

Its because US fans think that the USMNT is the best in the world, ranking Pulisic on the same pedestal as Messi and Bellingham (he's not), all thanks to Lalas and US pundits. The u-23s are not in the same position as european u-23 teams. The A team arent on the same level as other national teams.
