    MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

As a lifelong fisherman, spectator and entry fee donor to some local tournaments, I have to say that live sonar (even though I have it, use it and enjoy it) has affected my level of respect for tournament fishing. I will watch it, study it, and use what I learn to make my days on the water more productive, but I cannot look up to or have any level of respect for the group of anglers that you're referring to. The class of rookies that they speak so highly of, was born into the easiest era of fishing that there has ever been. It is truly a silver spoon bunch of nerds who have invaded what was once a respected and hard-earned elite level competition. Thanks for telling the truth, I really enjoy most of your viewpoints.

Its awesome that your so honest. Well spoken and not afraid to touch hard topics. If you ever started a guide service, it would definitely be worth the money. In my opinion the way you speak and your knowledge is a huge compliment on your persona. It just seems like getting in the boat with you would just be a good time.

Perfect explanation….. it’s a rich mans sport but the tournament organizations sell the dream….. when the dust settles it’s hard to make profit!!!!
I’m still ate up fishing and guide full time along with travel to pleasure fish, it’s more rewarding and less stressful. I’m genuinely happy for some of these guys both young and old that have excelled so much with the new technology and built amazing careers on it but they’re in the one percent club of tournament fisherman that are making profit.
Anyone with common sense will agree with your insight and some of your past videos about fishing your home lake and local tournaments and making more profit than traveling state to state was another one that I agreed on you put on UA-cam!

Great REALITY video. I see these young people with these expensive boats coming from rich families. Go with your heart and common sense. You love to bass fish so just go do it. When I was 25 to 30 years old, and loving to bass fish I met some pros and belonged to a bass club. I saw what you were talking about. Common sense jumped on me about what I really wanted to do or be about my fishing. I wanted to fish just for the fun of it and go when or where and at any time. Well, I put that thought into reality knowing it would take a long time to accomplish. Well, I did it. I am retired and living my dream. I have a new Ranger(paid for) in my garage. I don't fish any tournaments. I go when and where I want. I am happy in my senior years but I had to plan it. I paid the price over the years to get where I wanted to be and I want to add, it wouldn't have been possible without the help of my wife of 57 years. We have been together since high school. She is the one who saw me looking at this beautiful Ranger on the showroom floor. I acted like a 10 year old boy when she wrote the check and paid for it telling them to get it ready for me. I wish you all the success in what you want to do for TODD.

This really resonated with me. I've come back into fishing for the first time in over a decade. My kids are grown. Sports are over. I'm more financially secure. And I'm 45. I got into the kayak game. Less expensive. Adventure. I just love it. But these tournaments are the first of my life. And I've been weighing the practice days vs payout challenge. Long story short, I just show up and send it. Leaving work at 6pm. Packing up. Drive 2 to 5 hours. Up at 3:30am. On the water by 6 or so. I'm not winning. Or even consistent yet. I plan to maybe add 1 practice day for most events in 2025. It's needed. But yeah, I feel you.

Todd enjoy your videos and truly the reality and honestly. Breath of fresh air. I gave up tournaments several years ago. Still very much my passion and still enjoy following my friends that still are out there grinding it out in an extremely tough industry. Hats off to you. Keep on keeping on. Still love the teaching and insight you give. We have many of the same friends. I have spent my whole

Hell i'm 53 years old. I drive 3 hours a day for work so I can save my per diem for fishing. I have a 18' aluminum ranger. Just so I can fish a local club with $60 entry fees. lol. Oh, and so i could buy that new custom pro reel. Never thought i would spend that much on a reel. That reel is the real deal. I want another already. I dropped some dimes on that S&P reel and it is not all it was supposed to be. Great video as always.

Todd, you have always toll everyone about the different tournaments that if you can't make dollars then it does not make sense to fish them. I think it is awesome that you have always had the common sense to see that from an early age and 90 to 95% of the fishermen never look at a tournaments in the same way as you do. I also think that it shows just how smart you are with your money when it comes to all of this. Especially when you tell people that you have qualified for the Elites and you turned down the invitation to go, and it I am not mistaking even more than once. This show that just because you love fishing and it is all you do and have done your whole life you were not willing to go broke or in debt doing it like a fair amount of the guys on tour now at that level.

100% when someone puts it down on paper like i did way back when, then they will realize its not as easy as they think .odds are not in your favor at all. also willing to take a risk like gambling at a casino and not with chump change. i didnt even pursue my " dream " since its so demanding . i also enjoy fishing way too much to let stress ruin it. oh and not to mention live scope lol i hate that it came to that , to me it takes the "wonder/genuine " fish catches out of the equation . but you better believe that i have it on my boat haha! not letting anyone have the upper hand . nice videos man, i enjoy how laid back and honest this channel is . also been watching you for years . keep it up brother!

You hit the nail on the head!! You're still living your dream you get to still fish plus spend time with family at home. Fishing top tier stuff is very hard because you're away from home grinding trying to make it if you don't make the cuts basically you don't get paid. That's tough that's a lot of pressure on both the fisherman and the family.

I've never really thought about it in this way. The way it is run there really is no PRO fishing. It would be like NBA players having to buy their own tour bus and rent to court time for practices. MLB players having to find sponsors EVERY season or they can't play. NFL players making little for playing and having to make the bulk of their money by how many Insta followers they have.

I just drove from Virginia to Crockett Texas to purchase a 1999 Champion 202. In 3 days. Yeah I have some work to do on the boat, But I just like the way it makes me feel. Been fishing 40 years and worked to retire, I've never had a new boat. but I have loved every boat i had, and those memories I've made. I Remember when I drove to Texas and bought a bass boat when I was 62. In a flood, and tornadoes everywhere. I am giving up on my dreams now. I've got a in dash flasher. just seems like last week. Its been Elite all my life. Keep on Todd.

The old champion’s are tuff boats ride like a new caddie I would rewire the hole boat check the transom real good fix anything under the boat in the gel coat put a keel protector. And if the motor is strong batteries good trolling motor call it good and fish it will last you tell you can’t go anymore or pass it down. Good luck have fun and hope you on the water soon brother 🙏🏼

Todd, I don’t people think about it like you do. You using a business mindset and others are using a fun mindset. I own a business and I’m always thinking of the profit loss senairo. If I’m not at work I’m losing twice as much at least. I’m spending but not making so it’s a double whammy. Also Todd don’t lie, you strike me as the type of man that if you can’t do it on your own you don’t want it or need it. The hard work pays off itself, you support your family with what you do and that’s why you keep it real. Hard knock university alumni.

professional bass fishing has become so expensive only people with money can do it and most of those cant because they are too busy making money. i fished the Redman pro tour for a few years back in the early 90s and realized exactly what you are saying back then. realistically you need a quarter of a million dollar investment just to try to tourney fish and no one will help or sponsor you until you prove yourself. out of reach for anyone not rich.

With the right investment strategy guys could fish any tour they want year after year with no real pressure from a financial standpoint. idk how many people out here I know or have heard about that could have taken 2 seasons off and changed their lives forever with stock market and crypto plays, but they can't put their pride down and get their finances in order first. Now I can go spend $2,000 to fish a small BFL and spend the week there like a vacation knowing it makes no sense financially instead of being stressed. I could go fish Toyotas and opens or whatever and not have to care about any of it because I put my passion for fishing on the back burner and put investments and business first. In a couple years time most guys who have a decent financial situation could do just that, but they are too concerned with proving themselves in the fishing world to do things the smart way. I'm glad you're happy and having fun and still making a living! A lot of people throw their financial future away for this sport though, and I guess my point is, most guys aren't as good of fisherman as they think, and they'd be much better off taking another path instead of donating their entry fee's to a guy like you lol
