The first book I read by Pastor Swindoll was "Come Before Winter and Share my Hope", it is tattered and worn, and God knew that hope would define my life. Now, to hear Pastor Swindoll reveal these painful memories, without malice, just speaking the truth, I am so deeply moved and respect him even more. He also did not repeat the cycle of family dysfunction, that also speaks to his humility before God. I heard him speak in person once up in Canada where he entered the hall riding his motorcycle; he is so genuine and unpretentious. Once in a while I tune in the livestream and no matter what he is preaching, I learn something profound. Thank you for this interview ❤
What an incredible story to hear how your soul has fed on God’s timeless truths through the ministry. I’m so thrilled to hear your hope continues to be renewed; I pray that continues. Great to connect with you here! - Colleen
God was orchestrating your life from that “mistaken”conception! All along He had a plan to mold you into the image of Jesus! It makes me think of Joseph: rejected by his family but destined for the salvation of many! Your ministry has changed the lives of millions! And the Your ministry has blessed millions!
Oh Pastor Swindol , I do now know why I related to you all these years without even knowing your story . Thank you again for having lunch with me everyday when I was working on the road . You showed me the love of a man for his family you taught me much for which I will all ways be grateful for . Cake yes I can relate , know me, picking on my speak , oh yes I THANK GOD FOR YOU AS THE TEARS FULL MY EYES WITH GRATITUDE FOR YOU. Thank you yes I love you and your family that shaped me in the word ofGod and yes I so loved you for showing me God’s word and Jesus to.❤
Such a great and honorable man, never knew of all his accomplishments, used to listen to his radio sermons for years. Unbelievable his parents treated him so badly. A true miracle he became the amazing man of God that he is. Thank u for sharing this story.❤
@@luciemarinov129He was born during really troubled times at the end of the Depression. Folk were very hardpressed, as they are in Australia now. We have many homeless, and people are struggling to hold onto their homes. Chuck Swindoll is such an encouragement in difficult times. My husband and I have been listening to Insight For Living for decades now.
Pastor Swindoll I was introduced to your teaching back in 1991 and as you were speaking humble is how I would describe you. Having suffered such intense, painful rejection you are a model of a life ordered by the Lord. And forgiveness . I admire how you handled it. I also admire how you don’t seem to have animosity towards your parents for the emotional abuse you suffered. May God bless you as you continue to minister.
Thank you. For us all, God graciously offers His strength as we walk through the hardships of life. We cannot face them on our own, which is why we truly Cling to HIS strength and peace. - Colleen
As I suffer with depression and anxiety, this gives me hope that The Lord can work miracles. He can change hearts and bring healing of every kind of ailment. He makes all things work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
How comforting are the passages you referred to here. Both references -Genesis 50:20 and Romans 8:28- Joseph (Genesis) and Paul (Romans) give all who suffer reason to endure and even find hope through seasons of pain and suffering. One commentator wrote regarding Jospeh: “there was a concourse of providence in it” . . . such powerful words to cling to when all seems lost. My hope is that you find consolation and comfort as you endure, remembering God’s providential hand is upon you and He is near to you this day. In addition, may Psalm 27 speak to your heart, trusting God to listen, lead, teach, and be near to you today. - Colleen
I’m a young pastor in Western NY. Pastor Swindoll has been a constant in my life since I was around 18 years old. I consider him to be one of the most important spiritual mentors in my life. Crazy to think someone I have never met could have such an incredible impact on my ministry. Thank you for posting this!
Peezy, so glad to hear you enjoyed this! In reading your words about how Chuck has impacted your life, I thought, What’s really crazy is having never met Jesus "face to face". He is constantly working in and through us, using people and His Word to grow us all up in the faith. May you continue to be encouraged through this ministry. - Colleen
Pastor Swindoll has blessed me since 1981. I bought all of his books and study guides. It is because of him I had a Pastorate of 20 years and currently 45 years in Ministry. A mighty Oak of man and a solid Prince of the Church.
So thankful the ministry was part of God’s leading you into the pastorate . . . and now a 45 year history . . . we are SO thankful! May Jesus continue to bless you as you faithfully serve Him. - Colleen
@Colleen Swindoll Thompson | Reframing Ministries What an honor to get a response from you. What I didn't say originally my wife was in Ministry with me becoming the first Woman in The Baptist church in Milwaukee to be ordained as Co-Pastor and my Son just last year was a PHD graduate from Brown University he is active in Ministry now in Vallejo California. So your Dad touched 2 generations in my Family. He definitely is a blessing to the Body of Christ
YOU are so valued by this ministry! Thank you for your kind note and I pray the Lord continues to minister to your soul through Insight for Living! - Colleen
I came from a very confused home of physical and verbal abuse, and had no idea how to parent, so I listened every time I got a chance to a man I greatly admired, “Charles Swindoll”. The spirit of God spoke to me day after day. We had three children, that all know the Lord. I cared for both my parents until they passed, and life is not easy, but with Jesus we can do ALL things.
What an amazing story. Makes me love and respect this man even more than I have for 40+ years. I didn’t think that was possible. God bless you. What was meant for harm, God used for good. He made you more like Jesus.
So happy to have met you. Am a South African granny who has listened to you on Transworld radio at 8 am every morning for many years. 😊 Love your vividly descriptive pictures of a story from the bible... "put your feet into those of a disciple"...Have learnt so much. Saved 40 years ago. Thanks so much for your ministry.🙏😊
I too have known this man. He speaks truth and while he could be puffed up for all his awards and accomplishments, that simply is not in the genetic make up…no puffery here just a brilliant honest good man. ❤
The fact that he didnt say anything bad against his family and even said he didnt feel any jealousy is such a strong character and Im in tears right now. I have been so blessed by his teachings and now his life! Thank you for sharing this! 🙏
Nina: What a wonderful comment to receive, thank you. Delighted to hear how the ministry has blessed you, and now far more in knowing more of the story. His story, like your story and all of ours, matter. May the light of Jesus shine brightly through you in the days ahead. - Colleen
I just finished watching this interview, and I am totally blown away by what I heard. It makes me so sad, to hear of all the abuse that Pastor Swindol suffered, in his growing up years. I have listened to his messages off and on for years. But somehow this all seemed new to me., and my heart goes out to him and his family. I’ve always known he is a man of hope, and his messages have great power and meaning. God be Praised. I love his messages, and his humor is so good. I want you to know I will pray for you. Sometimes we think that these men of God have grown up in a perfect home and all the rest. But then to find out, they have had a tough life, does something to speak to my soul. Thank you so much , and God Bless and keep you.
Chuck was a early mentor on the radio to me in my Christian walk , I listened to him daily.I remember him describing how he was preaching at his church and his dad was in the audience and he died or had a fatal heart attack during his sermon. Chuck recalled how he never stopped preaching and recalled watching the e.m.t 's taking him away , I was always puzzled by his lack of response to that event. After listening to Chuck tell of his childhood the pieces fell together about that moment.I too come from a father who was negligent in his parenting so I can relate. I appreciate Chuck's honesty in bringing his painful life to our attention, it encourages others to continue to trust God in spite of it.
I am sorry to hear of your deep pain! Yet, to hear of your faithful devotion in trusting Jesus, and allowing His word to sink deeply into your heart through this ministry reveals wonderful maturity. Thankful for you and the hope God provides always. - Colleen
Such unique honesty about a topic many of us would have trouble doing - the truth about the painful parts of your upbringing. My situation growing up was very very similar. Therefore, this touched me deeply at my age of 72.
I am so sorry for the years of pain you suffered. I pray you have found God’s peace and joy in spite of it all; and so very thankful this ministry is a voice of hope to you. - Colleen
I was touch to the point of tears listening to Pastor Chuck Swindoll's testimony, especially the part where he said his parents didn't want their grandchildren to their home. I have a fresh desire to keep him in my prayers. His childhood prepared him for the great calling and journey God has lead him on. Thank you sir for sharing your heart, even the pain and emotions that may still seem to be there to some degree. From marine to marine SEMPER FIDELIS!!!
My life has been shaped by Pastor Swindoll's teachings. During the most difficult times of my life, he has guided me back to the scriptures and to a strong and enduring faith. I have been forged in the crucible of suffering for times such as this. I am eternally grateful and thank God for men such as he.
I’m grieved to hear of your "crucible seasons", yet so thankful you have continued to turn to scripture, trust God’s truths, and have grown deeper because of them. - Colleen
I had the wonderful privilege of hearing and reading the sermons of two of the most effective and accomplished preachers of the era (say, 1960 to 2020), in London, John Scott and in SoCal (USA) Chuck Swindoll. They possessed all 3 elements (The Word (Logos, substance), ETHOS, character, Key=Humility, and Heart (path this) or passion. The authenticity and vitality in their sermons was electric, whether in person or on radio. John Scott is no longer with us; however, CHUCK SWINDoll is still modeling the best preaching any of us could want to hear as we can learn from no better human model. THANK YOU, Church, PREACH on!
@@keithwhitney7491Do you, by any means, mean John Stott? Or are you definitely referring to someone by the name of John Scott? Just wanting to be sure, so I can look up some of his sermons and listen to his teaching! Thank you so much!
I’ve enjoyed Dr. Swindoll for years. My friend and I often discuss “Chuck’s” teachings. No disrespect intended, he just feels like a good friend. May God continue to bless you, your precious Cynthia and your family. This must have been difficult to share, thank you and big hugs ❤️ Carol
Carol, one of the best compliments is to hear someone refer to another as a ‘friend’! So thankful you have been ministered to through the ministry. Thank you for your kind words! - Colleen
Chuck Swindoll is my Dad's age, 88 years old! I enjoyed this interview very much. Chuck has all his marbles and then some! ❤️ He's been a master story teller and a man who has sought 2b a genuine believer. Id recognize his booming laughter any where. 💐 He laments the passing away of soblings and close feiends.
I am 72 years of age. Chuck Swindoll has had a great impact on my life. I accepted Jesus as my Savior in 1970. When I was at Christ For the Nations I had to write a paper on someone who had greatly impacted my life. I wrote it on Chuck Swindoll. I got an excellent grade on the paper and then I sent it to Chuck Swindoll to encourage him. He has continued to impact my life. Someday I hope to meet him in heaven. I am sure there are many crowns waiting for him
I also came to know Jesus as my Saviour through the love shown in chuck Swindolls ministry in the 70’s. I had this booklet of your family visiting Israel, it grew my love for the Jewish people as well. THANKYOU for your integrity
Thank you for the gift of this interview. Amazing story that is evidence of God’s love and redemption and a life well lived. Countless people have strengthened their faith through his ministry and absolutely adore Pastor Swindoll, a faithful servant and lover of God and His word. This is what it means to finish well.
I have always loved Chuck Swindall, from the time I was saved in 1976. God used an abundance of pain to fashion an instrument that has been of great value in the body of Christ. Thank you, Lord, for Chuck Swindall.
Thank you for sharing your dad with the world! I am another who has been blessed by The Lord through Pastor Swindoll’s teachings. May our God continue to bless your family!
God turned a humble man into a faithful giant. And oh, that magnificent, contagious laughter! May God continue to smile upon you, Pastor Swindoll. Thank you for your integrity and example.
Dear Pastor Swindoll, you were so instrumental in my Christian growth in the 80s. I listened to my Chuck friends (you, Colson, Stanley, and James (Dobson), & Greg (Laurie). My daily lifeline. I've always loved your laughter. Thank you. You've got it!!
I was born again in New York City but within 9 months, God moved me to California where I had drive to work. One of the first voices I heard was Chuck Swindoll. I would weep while driving to work listening to this precious man share the Word of God, Thank you for this interview. Though he had the beginning he did, Poppa Chuck, was/is so loved by me and I am sure thousands of others.
I believe many of us had to dry tears, clean up eye-liner, and hope no stains were left as we drove to work and tears fell. I have the same experience; what a joy it is to know the Spirit is alive in your soul. I’m confident you are a light to “thousands” as well! (From Colleen . . . Chuck doesn’t wear make-up, FOR SURE! =) )
88 years old, and I would still recognize that voice anywhere :) ! He was a voice of hope during my youth. Beautiful to see him with his lovely daughter. Love the honor. :)
I'm a 30-something year old guy from SoCal. Pastor Chuck has always brought warmth and a sense of comfort in messages whenever I have heard this over the radio, TV or internet. Such a gift from God to help minister to countless people.
“A 30-something” guy . . . so GOOD to hear from you. Grateful to know you continue to grow in your faith! Praise the Lord for how we can connect in so many different ways. - Colleen
You can can still hear and see the hurt in him. Sounds a lot like my story, even being in the marines and on Okinawa, except he wasn't beaten and he had great friends and mentors.
That magic voice that I was first introduced to in 1988 when I was the lonely wife of a sailor; that voice saved me from the hardships of being a sailor's wife with two small children; over the years, that voice still comforts me. Thank you for your wonderful gift, Pastor Chuck.
Your dad helped me raise my children who are now in their 50's. I read every book he had written during those years. I have loved him all these years. So grateful God allowed me to fall upon this interview!!!!
Deb, I am so thankful as well. Interestingly, even though I’m his daughter, my kids heard many IFLM broadcasts and “Paws & Tales” episodes growing up. It's been a joy for me to lead Insight for Living's Reframing Ministries these years; if you or a loved one is caregiving or is in a season of sorrow, we are here for you. So thankful for you! - Colleen
Thank you Chuck Swindoll for being vulnerable with your beautiful daughter to make such and honest and difficult video. People would have never known this. So many knew Lucy as did I and she really encouraged me. But your programs I have listened to forever and been so blessed. You were not a mistake to God. In no way and God has used all of your family issues to form you and prepare you for your future teaching and loving so many people. I am the oldest of 8. I understand a family of favorites completely, having lived it. The firstborn is the experiment but not always the favorite. You are loved! By so many. Your teaching will live on for years if the Lord doesn’t come first. Thank you for sharing all of this. I laughed, I cried a lot but it was close to the heart and truly touched me. You are a genuine man of God and only been human in your feelings which is so precious. This video will be such an encouragement to so many. Thank you and may God our good Father continue to always bless you. He has been your Father all the way through.
Wow, so shocking to hear Chuck's childhood story. My family loooves Chuck Swindoll and his books. He is one amazing person for sure! Lucy was amazing too.
I'm 80 yrs-old & I've read some of his books, watched his talks but never knew where he came from resulting in greater love for God using Swindoll as the exceptional human he is. Thank you, Lord, for this man.
Thank you Colleen for this! I have grown the most as a Christian BECAUSE of your Dad. I Love him so much. Living in Iowa I've only met him once as a guest in his Church. You are blessed to have a Dad such as him.
When I first became a Christian I listened ţo Chuck Swindoll every day. He helped me thru so much of my life. Now I understand why I could identify with his preaching & teaching. I was ignored. I never had a conversation with either of my parents. They only told me what I was doing wrong. But God saved me and put my feet on the rock of Jesus Christ.
Wow,wow I'm so amazes and blessed to have come upon this wonderful tall with ChuckSwindoll and his daughter. I was surprised and honored to have been on a trip to the Holy Land in2006 with Insight for Living with Chuck and Cynthia and 600 others.A privilege of a life time! May the Lord continue to hold you in the palm of His hand and bless you. God is so good and you humble life and example speaks volumes !!
Such a humble man. But so very gifted! We love his sermons, his books, his sense of humor, his honesty, his integrity., but he is a real person! We adore who that person is. But,we had more fun with his family and him for many years. We miss him, but I am so glad I lived in the same time period he is living in. What a Great Role Model for all of us. He brings Glory to the Lord . 😂
This was such a beautiful conversation and touched my heart deeply. I appreciate so much the vulnerability in this conversation aboutChucks life and how God used the pain in his life to bring Gods love and ministry to others. I also enjoyed so much the love and care between Colleen and her Dad and the love for his wife. In the midst of so many scandals and abuse in the church, it’s so encouraging to see. Thank you for the reminder of the true hope and joy we have in God.
Praise the Lord for this man what a blessing to me I have listened to him on radio for the fist time many years ago . Thank you for the life you have lived . You have lived an shared with your listeners.
@janmcwhirter3932 I hope you continue to find encouragement through the many stories shared here. When our hope is empty, hearing how God has been faithful through their hard seasons helps us endure and renews our hope. Wonderful to know you have been blessed by this ministry! - Colleen
God saved me in 1982. Soon after, I started reading books penned by Charles Swindoll. All were biblically founded! A big hand in my 41 years of sanctification. Still listening to daily radio broadcasts
My husband introduced me to an amazing author named Chuck, when we were dating. He then boldly booked us on an Alaskan cruise with Chuck, so we had to figure out how to get married so we could go on the cruise together. (Back in the day when that was important). Yes, we spent our honeymoon on a Chuck Swindoll cruise to Alaska. This evening we learned so many incredible things about this amazing man that we have never heard before. Thank you for being such a massive impact on us all these years Chuck. You still got it. ❤
OH MY GOODNESS . . . Happy early anniversary since you all traveled to Alaska with IFL years ago! What a delight to hear from you! Like each of us, God’s greater plan so often comes from the sorrow’s and hard seasons we experience. So thankful for your faithfulness and encouragement. - Colleen
I don't know when I have been so touched as I have been as I listened to your father. I have wept through most of it. Though his story is not my story, yet I am so moved by his genuine humility and honesty. I am turning seventy in July and have pastored for over 46 years. The same church for 43 of them. I cannot tell you how many days I have stopped to listen to his daily broadcast over the radio as he brought the bible to life. His gift to the body of Christ is and will forever be without measure. Thank you for just being you. Pastor Bill Heard
So thankful the Lord has blessed you with an effective ministry . . . 43 years is one faithful endeavor. Bless you for your faithfulness to our Lord. - Colleen
I’m 80 years old and started listening to Chuck Swindoll many years ago on the radio. He has blessed me so much. I truly have enjoyed listening to his life story. I have cried, laughed and amazed at such a wonderful man of God. What an example of humility!
In 1981,I was converted and introduced to Chuck Swindoll. I bought his tapes and study guides and Bible I have his NLT Study Bible which I enjoy.Thank you for your testimony Pastor Chuck😊
I’m just listening to this in April 2024. What a precious interview from a daughter who obviously loves her “Daddy,” although knowing how important he became to so many people through the grace of God❤️
Chuck Swindoll, you are so MUCH TO SHOUT ABOUT!! Your impact on the lives of millions and millions is absolutely true. I had the privilege of working at the Christian radio station KILA in Las Vegas and was able to hear your program daily. You taught me much. You said something so pivotal. “The gospel doesn’t change but the delivery does”. My rough translation. I’ve been able to pass that on. It’s been helpful to understand that it’s part of what has to happen to share the gospel to subsequent generations. Dear man, I’m so looking forward to heavenly meeting with you. I must admit I’m shocked at your horrible treatment and hurting to imagine that little stuttering boy. I know you are so GREAT in the kingdom of God. See you there brother. Your homecoming is going to be beyond magnificent!! Thank you for the Grace Awakening too. God bless you so much.
Similar to how the Gospel’s were written, by four very different men: Matthew the Tax Collector, Mark who traveled with Peter and a follower of Christ, Luke the Doctor, and John "the beloved", while the truths they wrote remain eternal, their style of writing meets a variety of reader’s needs. So it is through all generations . . . truths are eternal, how they are expressed and explained requires a variety of teachers and leaders. Thankful that you are passing along God’s truths to the next generation! - Colleen
Pastor Swindoll will be one of my favorite speakers of God's Word. He speaks as God leads, and that in itself tells us how the Lord has worked in Chuck's life. God bless you.
I have listened to you since 1972 when I received Christ. I was blessed to be at a Christian Writers Conference at Mt.Hermon. we often shared our meals at the same table. Your laughter still rings in my ears. Thank you for being such a big part of my life...I still listen every a.m. to your awesome programs. Rev.study is my favorite. God bless you! & Ty.
I had to respond after hearing about Mt. Hermon and your years of listening and laughter. Such experiences shaped my life as well; thrilled to hear the Rev. study has been meaningful to you. - Colleen
Pastor Swindoll has ministered to me since 1993. The best nourishment besides food. Thank you for your faithfulness and teaching me through your radio ministry. Your sweet daughter is following in your footsteps. I absolutely love the openness and your very personal sharing of your life and also yours Colleen. Listening to Pastor Swindoll's chapel sermons at DTS taught me many, many good ways to treat others. Thank you!
Daphne, I love hearing from you. You are so committed to your learning, growing, and I also see your gift of AFFIRMING others. DTS chapels are so wonderful . . . thankful for your love and commitment to Jesus. - Colleen
@@reframingministries I am living proof that God can teach a an older person and He will never be done with my learning until I enter the Heavenly realm. Thank you so much for your reply. It truly encourages me.
One of the best 'sermons preached' by this Godly man! I really love him, though he is on the other side of the world! Thank you for sharing this. He still has so much to invest in others.
Pieter, while we are on opposite sides of the world, isn’t it wonderful to know we are united through Jesus Christ? It’s an honor to know this meant so much to you. - Colleen
It was April 2007...my divorce was just finalized...i was devastated...he left me because he "fell out of love"... I kept clinging to the Lord in prayer asking for peace and help to forgive... I continued serving at Church and working non stop to survive the pain... I felt so unloved and alone! One morning, i was on my day off work and the silence in my home was overwhelming! I was praying in my livingroom but heard no answer... Without thinking, i turned the radio on and the characteristic vibrant voice of a male preacher immediately captured my attention! He said that God knew how i was hurting...that God loved me with love Eternal...that He was with me and would never leave my side... I knelt right there and thanked the Lord for replying to my plea! Pastor Swindoll came to me at a moment when i did not want my life anymore... Ever since that very moment, his words gave me hope by reminding me that my Father in Heaven was aware of me and my broken heart...that He has the balsam that removes every pain, sadness, loneliness and fills the heart with His light, joy, peace and magnificent Presence! Bless you forever dearest Pastor Swindoll! You are a Beacon of Hope and Faith to the world! I thank the Lord for you always! May His almighty hand hold you and preserve you til He comes to earth to take us Home! I listen to you always! I have your books and sermons in CDs! I look forward that glorious day when we will meet in our Father's Home! Bless you and yours forever!✨✨✨✨✨✨
Your words sink deeply into my heart . . . may we continue to find Jesus as our source for strength, hope, peace, and presence. And, may we meet in heaven one day . . . SOON! - Colleen
In the early 80s I drove a route for a Photo finishing company and would listen to your Dad and James Dobson on the radio. Through this God prepared my heart and I came to the Lord in 1983. I answered the call to ministry, many have been saved and ministered to since due to your Dad's obedience to the Lord. Everything God has done through me he has a share in. I love him and thank God for him.
I was so blessed to discover Chuck Swindoll and Dr. James Dobson when I saw a new bride, in I983. I would listen to both of them back to back on WFCJ out of Dayton, Ohio while on my lunch break. I continued listening after I was home raising babies. My boys knew the theme music when it came on. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing story. You never know how one little action can change someone’s life. The story is all the more amazing considering Chuck’s beautiful smile and contagious laughter. I’m so glad he had been faithful to the Lord’s calling.
I have read most of his books and listened to his counsel. As a new Christian 43years ago He was such a blessing. Pastor Swindoll has stayed the course..He lived what he taught. I will be forever grateful for his faithfulness to our Lord.
Thanks Pastor Swindoll for sharing these insights from your life. Thanks for the reminder that hope keeps us alive each day and to find our hope anchored in Jesus Christ. Every time I hear you or read your books we thank God for you and hope to meet you one day. This has indeed been a blessing.
I’m almost 80 and about 40 yrs ago I ordered Chuck’s scripture booklets and listen to him on the radio. He was an amazing teacher and Pastor. Interesting to hear about his parents and childhood.
Sandy, it’s so wonderful to hear his backstory because we often can wonder what God is up to during our struggles. I hope you were encouraged and thank you for your faithfulness to the ministry. I hope there are many more years shared together! - Colleen
I have had a similar experience. I was sent to live with the grandparents. I suffered from a weakness and fainting. I was very troubled. My mother never loved me. My father did. When he died he left me a great inheritance. The siblings make sure that I did not receive anything. When I was living with the grandparents I was hit by a truck at about seven years old. My mother told me something that I have lived with all of my life regarding this. This is why I am the way I am. I never recovered from what she told me. Jesus has always been "my Friend" He would always be there with me and He is here with me still. Amen.
What a magnificent journey to hear about....so vulnerable! Wishing you many rewarding years to come. Pastor Chuck has been so inspiring in my life and I thank him for doing the most important thing a person could do with their life. Wow! Keep on trucking.
I was in the Air Force stationed at Dover AFB Delaware late 1980’s. I was in a miserable marriage all those years. The thing that kept me from going crazy was listening to Chuck at night in my basement workshop. Thank you Chuck for all those sermons that kept me going!
As an 82 year old widow ,I am listening to you now, having heard you on the radio and buying your book "Improvingi Your Serve. A s the 11th of 12 children you will never ever know what that book meant to me and my husband. It was life changing. And the many others you wrote I especially remember Come Before Winter. I recalled many things you wrote as I cared for my husband as a 24 hour caregiver for 20 years. He passed in 2008 and I am still so in love with Jesus. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
Oh my, Sharon . . . I cannot imagine how difficult those 20 years must have been. Caregiving is one of the most significant callings; it seems you allowed the years to soften you and let Jesus fill you with His strength and hope. What a gift you were to your husband for all those years. - Colleen
Wow. I’m actually speechless, would have never never guessed Mr Swindoll was neglected like this 😢😢😢, and yet he has such a sweet sweet heart - what a representative of Jesus and such humility!! This gave me hope- I too was not a wanted child, also an unwanted wife , but the Lord has allowed me to raise 4 children on my own and one is going to the mission field - BUT GOD.
Janna, Oh MY, what suffering you have endured. And, how essential that we tell our honest stories with grace . . . My heart grieves for what you must have endured growing up and into a marriage. You must have leaned on Jesus to raise 4 children which included such trauma; to GOD be the Glory for where He has brought you today. Just an idea . . . Reframing Ministries has many social pages, but our Facebook Private Caregiver group is deep and interactive. I’m thinking you may find that group both encouraging AND as a place to share wisdom you have learned along the path of suffering. Many are single parents praying, many struggle with God’s allowed will, and all are thankful for the encouragement and ongoing prayers. You can find the group here: facebook.com/groups/communityoffamilycaregivers/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF I will certainly pass along big, BIG hugs to my dad! = ). - Colleen
I think many of us were not planned or wanted. Pastor Swindells testimony has me in tears. He's so humble. Today's world is so entitled and arrogant , even in many churches. Thank you for sharing this, it's such a blessing to me and many others I'm sure.
I remember one of your sermons from years ago about Moses and the burning bush. Moses had been in the desert tending sheep for years with nothing different on the horizon. Then one day, a day that began like all of the others, he saw a bush burning and his life changed. That message always gives me hope for tomorrow. Thank you for your service to the Lord and for proclaiming his Word.
Thank you for a wonderful story of your life. Have been going to Stonebriar for several years and had a blessing from your sermons. I can relate to your life in some ways being the youngest of 8 children and a twin. I didn’t recover like you but God has seen me through life in which I’m so grateful for. My husband is named Chuck and a Vietnam Marine. He has dementia now and doesn’t remember much but loves the Lord and music.
Amazing how there are many similarities to your life and Chuck’s story . . . Marines and all! As a caregiver now, I hope you are aware of our “Reframing Ministries” outreach through Insight for Living Ministries. The department was established specifically for ministering to caregivers and those in very difficult seasons of life. I remember listening to pastor Swindoll on the radio everyday when I first moved to Florida. He changed my heart about learning about Jesus. I am grateful for his ministry and dedication to God. I feel one day God will say well done good and faithful servant. Thank you pastor Chuck Swindoll.
I believe you are right on. Such a faithful servant who has truly fulfilled God’s call on his life with humility and integrity. So thankful your heart has been encouraged through the years! - Colleen
I am 62 years old. I came to the Lord Oct. 1, 1982. After marrying in 1983 and 21 years old learning the ways of this Christian life... I began to listen to Chuck Swindoll on the radio every morning before going to work. As he told the story of Joseph, the Bible came alive to me... as a story of real people struggling with things I could relate to in my life. I was a girl who grew up with sexual abuse and went through abortion as a teen.... And I can still hear your Dad's voice quote Joseph's words to his brothers, "you meant it for evil but God meant it for good! ". The love in his voice as he brought the Bible alive to me was the foundation of a life as an overcomer! I've been through many loves and losses and am now a widow, but my God is always with me and always for me. I'm grateful for your Dad! It's an honor to pass on the baton I got from your Dad! Blessings!
Tears came to my eyes as I read your comment. How faithful God is to restore our broken hearts, to be with us when life falls apart, to remind us that He is for us when we’ve blown it, to redeem our pains, and to give us purpose to move forward. The story of Joseph is one of my favorites as well . . . to know “BUT GOD WAS WITH JOSEPH” . . . and He is with you this day and every day. Blessings to you as you continue trusting in Him. - Colleen
Knowing and listening to his teachings is one of the greatest treasures, as an immigrant Christian take the word seriously, I found his teaching and was listening early morning driving to work while he was teaching from California, then moved to TX found him as he started the church my husband and I rejoiced to go to hear God’s voice, I’m being honest I measured all kind of teachers based on his standard, he is indeed a very humble servant chosen by God, since the time I knew him I continuously pray for long life because he is one of the best to make a difference in people lives.
By chance I went to a women’s Bible Study as a young wife and mother in 1978 and heard this man speak. When I needed to know how to live and cultivate a good home and family life, I listened to this man’s cassette tapes like my life and marriage depended on it. I wanted to succeed in my marriage after watching my parents’ marriage fall apart. Now, after 50 years of marriage to the same man, I can honestly say God used Chuck Swindoll to teach me how to live an abundant life in Christ. I am so grateful for this sweet man. 😢 Your ministry was very much wanted and needed by a hurting world. My family and five children thank you for serving so humbly and teaching me so well. ❤
I enjoyed this talk. It made me cry and laugh. I read the IFL devotional and listen to the broadcast every day. My Swindoll Bible Study Book, which is pretty beat up, is full of notes and lined scripture. I have learnt so much from Pastor Swindoll over the years. I thank you Pastor Chuck! Thank you to you and Cynthia for IFL. I wish you both good health and enjoyable healthy years to come. God bless you! Thank you Colleen for the lovely interview.
It’s an honor to know you have been part of this ministry for many years! What a delight to hear your Study Bible, the daily devotionals, and the broadcast have ministered to your soul. I hope you continue to find encouragement from the many interviews available. Blessings to you today and each day! - Colleen
What a beautiful interview! We Went on his Israel tour right before last tour at beginning of Covid. What a blessing!! What a wonderful man..your dad❤️ Reminds me of my own pastor dad! L Thomson from Nashville
Thank you for sharing this. I grew up listening to my Mom's "buddy Chuck" God's love is so evident in him no wonder Paul says Christ in us the HOPE of glory. God bless!
Joel, AMEN! And how fun it is to hear that Chuck was your mom’s ‘buddy’. Thankful for her influence on your life and your faithful commitment to Jesus. - Colleen
Thank you for sharing your story. You’re one of my favourite Bible teacher. I am encouraged and empowered by your story/ testimony! Much blessing to you and your family!!
Paise God, Dr. Swindoll, for this your magnificent testimony of hope. I celebrated birthday #87, 12/23. I’ve had a full life of ministry with my pastor husband here in Hawaii. His heavenly coronation day was 25+ years back. How God led, cared, provided His gracious mercy would probably fill a couple of books of which I have no desire to provide. My main reason for these comments is to thank you and God for your written and audio ministries, which bless my soul on a daily basis. I sit under the teaching, preaching ministry of a young man, younger than my youngest 50+ daughter. God has gifted him with a superb gift of expository teaching and preaching. So am being fed on that special level. I still play the piano for the services - btw, this is the church God led my husband to start back in the early 80s. But wanted to again praise God for how He is using your ministry in my life. I am a monthly donor to your Insight for Living ministry. I recently watched your church service, listening to how God has now extended your life following your near death experience. God bless you as you continue to serve Him to the max!! Patricia Kalili
God Bless Pastor Swindoll for Insight For Living Ministries for being so practical integral with sincerity .The fruits of the spirit are quite recognizable & applicable with desire to share in Christs' love w/hope Amen. Thank You Colleen for this interview
Chuck, you are dear to our hearts. Thank you for all the years of your life and ministry. Christ also knew rejection in His home town. Listening to Insight for Living and your messages formed my early spiritual development. Thank God for you❤
Robert: Thankful for your heart and always humbled to hear how you have grown through the ministry of Insight for Living and now connecting with us through Reframing Ministries. - Colleen
What a blessing! Thank you. Chuck Swindoll has been blessing me since 1994 when I returned from 8 years on the mission field, sick and drained. His sermons and books have been life giving, and this window into his soul shows me why.
@@reframingministries Listening that evening was transformational. I just shared the experience with the Zoom Bible study I teach, so the power of that sharing goes on. Thank you, Colleen, for bringing us what we would never experience without your loving conversation.
Chuck Swindoll played a huge role in my spiritual development in my twenties. I had a job auditing in the State of Washington and listened to his cassette tape teachings while spending miles and miles on the road. He has truly been a blessing to so many and I am so thankful for his teaching.
I hear from so many who remember listening on the ‘cassette tapes’. So thankful the Lord used this ministry to grow you soul . . . mile upon mile. Blessings! - Colleen
I was inspired by Pastor Chuck Swindoll 's teaching from the first time I heard him on radio. I called him my "Radio Pastor " . Hod bless you Pastor Swindoll .
We were sitting in his church waiting for the service to begin. He came down the aisle to my husband who had an eagle tattoo on his arm. He talked with my husband about his service. What an amazing man of God!
I just invested the time to listen to this wonderful father-daughter interview of a man I've admired for so many years. What a healing message this interview brings to people like me (Ernie) who've endured horrific childhood memories. When I was 16, just having been kicked out of my abusive home (it's all I knew), I hit my knees and asked the Lord to be my father. I was surrounded by the warmest peace (it felt like fire that permiated my entire being but did not burn). This interview reminds me the Lord hasn't left me alone through all the hurts of life that have followed my ejection from home. Surely He's kept me from the darkest pits and been there during all my failures. I love what this man Chuck stands for. Thankful for him being so raw and candid. I'm blessed immensily by this interview. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
May the comfort of Jesus cover your life continually, fill you with hope daily, and calm each anxiety peacefully. Oh the ways our God will use your story to touch the lives of many as you choose to honor Him in all you do. - Colleen
Ernie, I am greatly moved by your comment. So sorry for the sorrows, so thankful they led you to Jesus. For sure, you are not alone . . . I pray you find more and more encouragement here. - Colleen
Ty Pastor Chuck and Colleen for the heartfelt interview. We love you Pastor Chuck. I am grower deeper in love with Jesus because of your teachings on Insight for Living. Lord Blessings to you and your beautiful family.
Pastor Chuck I have learned so much about you by listening to my husband playing his cassette tape player listening to your sermons. I have read several of your books but listening to these stories have touched me so much. You see the relationship your parents had with you was what my mother had with me. She is no longer with us and it has taken me years to forgive her but my darling husband has been my rock and I thank the Lord and you for what you both have taught me through Matt about forgiveness.
I am so glad that these times of talking with my dad about his life have helped to encourage you with your life story as well. And what a blessing to have a husband who is such a rock and source of strength in your life! It is such a gift to hear people’s stories and see what God has done in and through them. Thank you for sharing! - Colleen
Absolutely wonderful! I have been following Chuck's radio ministry many years, and I never knew this about him! My childhood was also difficult, verbal abuse and control, "you can't do anything right..." all of it, Chuck! I related to everything you said. I vividly remember the first time I ever heard your voice or knew anything about Insight for Living. I worked at a small Christian Radio station in Central Georgia when one day the manager called and informed me that starting Monday, we had "another preacher" coming to the station. 7:00AM. Weekdays. Right in the middle of my morning drive program that was just then gaining momentum! I was totally ticked off! Another preacher? Really? He must be paying good money to take the prime time spot! Monday rolled around, and at 7:00AM, I played the reel to reel program for Insight for Living. I was so mad. I turned the control room volume up loud and went into the next room to work, trying to ignore the preacher. Chuck was teaching on "The Agony and Ecstasy of Christ," and it was at the part where the crucifixion was underway. Within 5 minutes, I was glued to the radio, pen, paper and Bible in hand with tears streaming down my face listening to Chuck share that story that I'd studied and shared many times, but never in such a way that hit me so hard. I was hooked. Chuck, your ministry changed my life. Again and again, listening to your wit, and most importantly the way in which you related the Bible to my life. And, this interview. WOW. Once again, hits home directly. Thank God for your ministry, Chuck! And, thank you Colleen for sharing this special interview with us! You will never know how much it means to me. I'd love to share the whole story with you sometime.
I gotta say, I LOVED your comment about being “ticked off, so mad”! That kind of honesty is part of what makes this ministry, and all of those connected, know we have Jesus who understands us and loves us! I’m so sorry to hear of your painful early years; so thankful your life has been "changed" through IFLM! I would certainly love to hear more about your story. If it's of interest, you can find my story here: reframingministries.com/about/ (This is also how Reframing Ministries, which is an "outreach ministry" connected to IFLM, came to be). I hope you will find more encouragement and “real life” stuff there. Many thanks, - Colleen
I had a brief encounter with Pastor Swindoll while sitting in a medical waiting room. I heard his voice and recognized it as the man that I listened to on the radio. What a privilege just to get to tell him hello, and how much his ministry had meant to me. Keep up the good work! Blessings
This man planted such strong foundational truths of Christianity over the past 40+ years. Never knew THIS part of his story. His childhood resonates so deeply with mine. At 65, I am struck even now “desire sweet” is such an encouraging validation for hope in this season of my life.
Isn’t it so encouraging to hear others have suffered in ways we never expected, yet in ways that make the story and person so meaningful to our lives? Extremely thankful for you! - Colleen
I always loved Chuck since my youth. I was able to meet you in Mannheim, Germany in 1990 or 1991 at a revival you did. I'll treasure your autograph from then in a book of yours.
Me too … first book of his
What an incredible story to hear how your soul has fed on God’s timeless truths through the ministry. I’m so thrilled to hear your hope continues to be renewed; I pray that continues. Great to connect with you here! - Colleen

I came from a very confused home of physical and verbal abuse, and had no idea how to parent, so I listened every time I got a chance to a man I greatly admired,
“Charles Swindoll”.

He sure has❤

God has had His hand on His life. We love him even more for him sharing his heart, and for not being spiteful
Ministry doesn't require brilliance but discipline
What a privilege to live in the same epoch as this man of God whom God has raised for such a time as this!
You have been with me all my saved life. What an amazing life! We love you Pastor Swindoll, you mean so much to me! God bless you and Cynthia 🙏

The child who was ignored by his parents was made known to the world because of his humility! ❤❤❤❤❤
God is just!

I understand a family of favorites completely, having lived it. The firstborn is the experiment but not always the favorite. You are loved! By so many.
His story certainly shaped him for his ministry calling. Thankful both Chuck and Luci have meant a lot to you and your family!

I'm 80 yrs-old & I've read some of his books, watched his talks but never knew where he came from resulting in greater love
for God using Swindoll as the exceptional human he is. Thank you, Lord, for this man.
Yes, so thankful! - Colleen
I don’t think any of us knew! But even in this, he was loving and respectful by waiting to reveal it until they were gone .
Thank you Colleen for this! I have grown the most as a Christian BECAUSE of your Dad. I Love him so much. Living in Iowa I've only met him once as a guest in his Church. You are blessed to have a Dad such as him.
Thankful the ministry has been so significant for you! And yes, dad has always and is a gift to my heart. Blessings!

So grieved for your childhood years, yet thankful God did indeed “put [your] feet on the rock of Jesus Christ”! - Colleen
Pastor Swindoll a great Christian Radio Teacher. I wish him very well in these senior years. God bless him. Great interview.
Has Pastor Swindol passed away?
What a powerful testimony from such a gifted pastor and teacher.
He is a rare treasure! Thank you.

God saved me in 1982.
Soon after, I started reading books penned by Charles Swindoll.
All were biblically founded! A big hand in my 41 years of sanctification.
Still listening to daily radio broadcasts
And so thankful for God’s faithfulness to you and the ministry that has meant so much! - Colleen
Wow! What an awesome testimony! If anyone were to question God after hearing this... I just dont know. God is SO, SO GOOD!
Amen! My sister just sent this to me and oh the tears that flowed! What an amazing and truly humble man he is. 🙌🏼
I'm so thankful to hear from you, Carlan. Yes, I do love my daddy and am honored to know he’s touched your life! - Colleen
I am just listening. I heard him in a message many years ago tell part of this. God works in mysterious ways. What a wonderful man.
- Colleen
HA! I think my dad is "much to shout about" for sure! Thanks for your delightful comment!

Thank you!

And, may we meet in heaven one day . . . SOON!

What a glorious and honoring comment. Thanks be to our Father who works all things together for a greater good than we could imagine. - Colleen
This is so deep, so honest, so pure. Thank you. Bless you and all you continue to do for Jesus and those in need of His hope. - Colleen
And what a wonderful legacy of faithfulness you have passed along to your family! SO thankful for your faithfulness.

I have read most of his books and listened to his counsel. As a new Christian 43years ago
He was such a blessing. Pastor Swindoll has stayed the course..He lived
what he taught.
Rev. Kumar, may you be filled with the hope and presence of our gracious God each and every day. Blessings to you.

@@reframingministries Thank you so much. I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene. And yes I love all the hymns!!!
Janna,
Oh MY, what suffering you have endured.
You can find the group here: facebook.com/groups/communityoffamilycaregivers/?ref=share&mibextid=S66gvF
I will certainly pass along big, BIG hugs to my dad! = ).

So thankful to hear how the ministry has been a lifeline and lifelong blessing. We celebrate your 50 years of marriage as well!! :)

I enjoyed this talk. It made me cry and laugh. I read the IFL devotional and listen to the broadcast every day.
I am a monthly donor to your
Insight for Living ministry. I recently watched your church service, listening to how God has now extended your life following your near death experience.
God bless you as you continue to serve Him to the max!!

What a blessing! Thank you. Chuck Swindoll has been blessing me since 1994 when I returned from 8 years on the mission field, sick and drained. His sermons and books have been life giving, and this window into his soul shows me why.

I was inspired by Pastor Chuck Swindoll 's teaching from the first time I heard him on radio. I called him my "Radio Pastor " . Hod bless you Pastor Swindoll .
Thank you for your story and reminder of how great the Lord is!
We were sitting in his church waiting for the service to begin. He came down the aisle to my husband who had an eagle tattoo on his arm. He talked with my husband about his service. What an amazing man of God!
How great to hear! Thankful for his service as well . . . and for your kind words.

What a remarkable life story. A wonderful man. So many great people have had such difficult childhoods. Thank you for this. Incredible...
It’s amazing how many believe our lives are easy… it’s the suffering that carves us most significantly. Thankful for you, James.

Many thanks,
