Very unique. Great feature to have the shelves tilted back just that little bit. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, a library mobile. We had them when I was young. One of the best inventions ever. Great interview.
Living an a bookmobile is like a dream!
Wow. I hadn't even thought of these as a platform until I met you. The former book mobile was an awesome find for him. The Cummins/Allison comb is bullet proof for sure.
it is a fantastic vehicle!
Seven that guy had a great start for a StepVan! It will be interesting to see how he completes it!
Cool vlog. He was lucky to find a neat truck.
What a great tour I really love the step vans but this bookmobile is really cool and I love that he’s keeping that history.
How nice that its all wood paneled already and with wall to wall shelving too, great! Nice interview. Fun to see how large it is on inside. Love the purple color on Violet. Maybe paint a few African Violets outside?
nice rig and tour. love the bookmobile origins. Adds a very nice feel and finish!
Well hello Joe! You have found a true gem in Violet. It's very evident that all of the custom work done for the bookmobile is top quality. That roof raise, with the windows would cost a fortune to have done, especially at the level of craftsmanship it is. I also dig the air brakes and the 22.5 sneakers Violet has and the generator and wiring are also terrific features. I completely agree that the commercial step vans are built much better than the RVs out there. Violet is a real keeper from what I see right down to her color and name...great stuff! Bookmobiles have been a constant feature where I am from before I was even born, so I have a bit of a thing for 'em too. Thank you Joe and Seven for that really cool tour of an outstanding step van. With that I believe that I am current with your episodes Seven...whew! ....................................PEACE!!
my favorite part are his clearstory windows
Wow! What a score. Excellent engine/trans, great bones, and a retired book mobile to boot.. He could get several 100k or more out of this rig.
agreed!
Oooh, all those lovely shelves! Really pretty. Those do give a lot of room - an especially nice choice for those of you who are vertically gifted. :D Cool vehicle indeed.
My favorite part about his home is that it is purple!!!! My favorite color. And I love the fact that it was a book mobile.
Purple means royalty!
Yes and yes! Best colour, awesome history. Love when the "vans" have a cool history.
Hey 7!
Nice tour of Joe's stepvan. I enjoy your low key, drama free, attitude. Thanks for sharing your travels.
Happee Trails, Papa & The Bandit!
What a cool home. We had travelling book trucks too, they were fun.
Those windows tho! What a great way to get the light in!
The idea of a bookmobile is enticing. I don't know what my next rig will be but Violet sure is a nice girl! Thanks for doing the tour Seven. I thought I had subbed Joe's channel after seeing him on Mike and Stephanie's channel but I just looked and hadn't so did.
I had a step van and converted it with help of a friend in the mid to late 1980's. I went to Mexico in it on one trip, and later on another trip I spent time in Taos, NM around Christmas but I was ill prepared and ended up staying in a hotel. Later when I got home to Louisiana I loaned it to the friend who had helped me build it out; he blew the engine, neither of us could afford to get it rebuilt so I decided to pay lot rent near my folks and used it like an apartment when I was home. I can't remember much about the make, or model. It was sort of gold colored. It was diesel but I don't remember it being loud. It was standard transmission and fun to drive.
sounds like you were a pioneer with the step van!
@@SevenWanderstheWorld I worked construction jobs that I had to travel and stay in hotels. Some workers I saw had campers they stayed in instead of a hotel so I had the idea I could save my per diem money if I had a camper but I couldn't afford a real camper. I had got the step van to work out of because I had a lot of tools. We put a regular toilet and sink in the stepvan, we used plastic plumbing pipes; I could only use plumbing when hooked to utilities in an rv park or at the jobsite. I don't remember anyone having any kind of solar. We ran the electric in the stepvan same as house wiring with big house type breaker panel. It was more like a park model trailer set up.
Hi Seven, I was just looking back on your videos and noticed, it was right at the beginning of last year's van build party, that I started following your channel. I have thoroughly enjoyed your journey over the year, so thank you for that... here's to the next year, so be safe, be happy and have fun... from the UK
thanks for following me for over a year! guess this is a kind of anniversary for both of us
nice rig really has some cool features
A former bookmobile. Nice
Excellent video bro that is a well set out van so far.
Great platform and Joseph has some cool ideas for it.
Great video! Thanks for posting
So VERY COOL !!!!!!!
Very nice van and interview!
Hey Seven! Wow! Thanks for sharing this tour! This is so cool! I saw one of these for sale, and thought about it, and before I could decide is was gone. These are gem's and Joseph was so fortunate to get one! I love the roof edge windows, how cool is that! Violet! What a gem! God bless! Hope you are doing well! Enjoy the coffee/naps! Savoring each day!
seems they are snapped up quickly when they are up for sale. I never was able to find one for sale
That is one nicely equipped step van. That diesel generator could power a whole campground. I just wouldn't want to camp next to that noise.
surprisingly it actually was very quiet, especially after he closes the doors to the generator box
Hey, I like this guy! Joe seems like a great personality and great build ideas! Thank-you for sharing!
nicely done!
Awesome book mobile conversion.
Nice van, nice guy.
Interesting. Thanks for the tour.
awesome build!
Thank you for the video l really love those vans
I absolutely love his StepVan!
That is a nice platform...
Lovely Van Joe! Nice.....
Cool Roof, nice build
Joe, Violet is so beautiful!
Nice interior!
Wow wow & wow... this is a very nice vehicule (mecanical, hight & size) with lot's of potencial for a vr.
his step van is a gem. I love the popped top!
I love that rig and the raised roof with windows is killer. I wonder how hard that would be to do on my grumman.
I would have to paint over the purple though, barney is not my color.
it is an amazing rig!
yo - seven. glad to see a step van with air brakes. good show.
mine was a Large 1962Metro International =made into a home ..open up back doors (I kept) fold up queen size bed.. I could haul lots.. 16 ?22? foot lumber and still close back door
I agree the bread truck/step van is a much better platform for full timers vs factory rv platforms.this is great and my dream vehicle
they are very solid vehicles
Very Nice!
Next month I'm going to buy a 20 foot moving truck. I want to create a small 10 x 7 living space near the cab, and then I'll wall off the back half. It'll have 2 uses: during the day it'll be used for making short/local hauls in town for people for things like furniture; that will be an easy source of income each day; $100/Load. In the evening as a ministry option, the back area will easily get turned into a nice space to sleep in, so that a homeless person can stay warm and safe. I can either make them a meal, and provide them with a food, water, clothes, hygiene products, a Bible, the hammock & sleeping bag that they slept in, and $100 cash. I need to give a huge shout out to Josh who has a YT channel called: "ACTS INITIATIVE. This week I was really inspired by his amazing 24 part series called "Dead Church", that talks about the importance of not living above and beyond, but living to constantly help others who desperately in need. So this is why I'm excited to be moving out of a stick & brick next month.
Nice!
He looks like Rizzo from MASH.
Like the roof raise. Curious how they did that.
oh how i love this :)
Nice step van, it should last a good while, I also like the shelving looks like white oak...
not sure if it is oak, but I love his shelving inside!
I worked for utilimaster in Elkhart county when the RV industry was slow because Elkhart county Indiana is also the RV capital of the world and we built a lot of conversion vans but anyhow that's one of their better ones Im going with utilimaster but going with the longer one.
I think Dennis said his was a 15ft cargo area... personally I like mine with 18ft for a bit more space
@@SevenWanderstheWorldI just purchased a P1200 Workhorse with the 8.1 and 22ft of space behind drive. It has the 21,000 pound towing capacity which I needed show running threw the Appalachian Mountains and Rocky Mountain's I can make it with ease because I'm pulling a 34' enclosed race car trailer with my 88 Monte SS drag car. I have a rv stainless steel stove, frig, and washer/dryer combo I got from rv industry where I worked on open box's plus employee discount along with my shower, tub, toilet, and Water tanks. I have collected it all over the past 5 yrs and gonna be recording my work soon start to finish and then I'm selling my house loading my tools, welder, torches, and air compressor up and having my mobile race car garage and gonna start traveling and doing live feeds and posting of different drag racing events and diffrent places I visit when not Racing. I like the step van better than a regular van or box truck and I like the progress your making. I'm following/subscribed
wow, wow, wow..
Oh heck yes.
i like this van now i ame looking for one
Book mobiles still exist. My city has them. 🙂
Looking for one like one like yours
Didn't realise bookmobiles were still around. That is freakin' cool! Gotta wonder how much weight those book shelves add, but that are really handy for storage. Also wonder what the gas mileage is on this thing.
I believe he gets around 13mpg (similar to my step van)
I've been watching a lot of these step-van conversions but have yet to see one that is well-equipped with amenities, neatly built, and functional. None of them look as clean as the van conversions. I am interested in doing a stealth step-van conversion, but have yet to see one that doesn't look like a hobo camper. It seems as though a step-van should have the space to build in a shower, full galley kitchen, and still have ample space for living, storage, and amenities. I'm hoping that this is because I've only seen partially completed ones on your channel. Any suggestions as to where I can find fully completed ones?
🧠I’ll take the tilted shelves idea
Hello, I'm sorry if I missed the price that was paid from the auction? Can you please tell me how much Joe paid?
Joe said he'd rather not discuss the price, but I believe he did get a good deal on it
@@SevenWanderstheWorld
Ppl crack me up! What is the big secret?? Wow! Thanks anyways.
I definitely want a step van I'm nervous about buying one because I'm a single female I have no mechanic or a man to help me know if I'm getting a good deal and if it's in good condition
With air brakes you can pull a trailer and do contract day shipping. Curious your price? My cuz bought a freighter 26' refer with power tailgate. Paid $12k. 60k miles
that's a good price on your rig. you'll have to ask Joe about price
I bet you wish you bought an old bookmobile after seeing that!!
it is an amazing step van!
He could call his rig "The Purple People Eater"
good idea!
That thing is slick !! Does he have to have a commercial license being it has air brakes and considered a semi ?
good question... you'll have to ask Joe that question
Did he ever say what auction site he found it on?
he didn't say
Thanks for posting the link to his site.. It's so rude when people don't do that, right?
I try my best to include links to others sites or channels when I can
Hmmm, I’m thinking a step van might be good for me. Joe’s is a 6 cylinder, does that mean he gets great gas mileage? Thx, 7. Mo in NJ
he and I both get around 14mpg as I recall
👍👍🇨🇦
is it camera angle Joe said he was 6ft, 2 and you look to be head taller than him making you 6,ft 7 or so ?
I'm just a hair short of 6 foot 6
Air ride seat for suspension when your going into the BLM areas.. LMAO... That's a classic !!!!!!
Why two ACs?
no idea. whoever built it for the book mobile made that decision
Seven grey? I thought you are seven wanders.
Nope, Seven "Shades Of" Grey. HaHaHaHaaa!
my name is Seven Grey; my channel is Seven Wanders the World (if my name were Fred, it might be Fred Wanders the World)... I love to wander!
@@SevenWanderstheWorld, you are a cool cat. love all your videos, including the ones with Jaime.
Nice van Joe...But the color is putrid !
Nice!
