Miki has a solid performance, this is JKA traditional shotokan kata, Ms. Usami perform difference style, In traditional Karate we do not compare our performances ... I think ....
Not bad overall but two observations: 1) She doesn't seem to fully utilize her center (tanden) fully when applicable, that is what defined Shotokan since day one. 2) The final strike with both knife hands appears to be rather mild, I was taught these two strikes were on the collarbones so I always do a full wind-up.
She was World JKA kata champion and is currently a high ranking instructor at the JKA honbu in Tokyo and you’re saying “not Bad”…..maybe you should post your Gojushiho video online so we can compare. BTW the last two strikes are not knife hand but Seiryuto …Ox Jaw hand.
It doesn't matter if she's the champ or whatever, this is show karate & not combat karate so learn the difference. And the final strikes are supposed to be shuto strikes to the collarbone or neck so after 33 years in Shotokan, I think I know what I'm talking about.
Then you need to refer to Nakayama’s Best Karate series, which states the strikes are Seiryuto not shuto. And by the way I have been practising Shotokan Karate for 54 years, so I guess you’re just getting started.
@@julesx8830 And you need to realize that karate evolves as the current version is far removed from when Funakoshi was around as Nakayama initiated changes when he was JKA boss after Funakoshi's death & that continues, neither right or wrong but preference. I was taught those strikes were full extension ones in order to break the collar bones because I learned combat karate as was done with Okinawan karate for centuries & still is & because Shotokan is a full power version where long extended movements are taught to maximize power in strikes & blocks, something you should have learned during your half century. And I've been in this game for 33 years just for the record.
Good but if I were her sensei, I would expect more from her... lower stances, more kime (even in declaring the name of the kata), the posture of her head/neck is not straight/aligned... she should lower her chin... I don't know how many dan she has but standards for black belts should be higher... and I'm not talking about Luca Valdesi levels, 'cause that is quite high
She trains at the JKA headquarters!!! One of her sensei is Tatsuya Naka!!!! Then she has no excuses: she MUST do better than in this video... I watched again and I could not see the energy/kime... it was a sequence of correct movements (with the few mistakes I pointed out) but I couldn't see/feel the kime... there was so little kime that she could keep the mouth shut while performing... she was little tired at the end, so she didn't give 100%. That's a performance that I can do, as a first dan not trained at the JKA hq, but she has to do better!!!

空手は迫力を伝えるものではなく美しさを見せるものです。ぼくはそう教えられてます。
力を入れすぎると迫力はありますが綺麗ではありません。
日本の美しさは力じゃないです。
この競技は 技の理解度、集中力、バランス、パワー、スピード が採点基準ですね 別の動画で最近知りました。 バランスが伝わってこないのでなんか見ていてすっきりしないんじゃないでしょうか。別の世界チャンピオンの選手の動画は全身撮影で気持ちがいいです。 選手の批評じゃなくて カメラワークの話ですけど。

ちなみにこの松濤館流空手は全日本空手連盟に入ってない限りオリンピックには今後も一切出られないので
