  • The day after our milk cow gave birth to a still born. She passed the placenta first, so the calf didn’t have a chance. Now we’re hoping to keep mama well and in milk.

SO sad that Aunt Flossy lost her baby! I remember when you got her, what a tremendous turn around. We had a cow lose a calf , she was a mess looking for the baby so we bought a dairy calf for $15 and she was so happy and that milk was flowing. Good luck with all your endeavors!

I always heard that kids learn at a much faster rate than adults. With all of their participation in your farm, those kids will be master homesteaders by the time they are 18. You are truly blessed .

Bless Aunt Flossie❤️ I'm glad you know it's not genetic to have a placental abruption. I ended up with a placenta previa 41 years ago because I didn't have an ultrasound. I'm so thankful I didn't have a home birth (thought about it) and was at the hospital when I hemorrhaged. I had an emergency c section and am blessed with a 41 year old son.

Yes Flossy is a hero, I can't believe she lived through that. I couldn't believe you didn't call the vet or help her, but its a learning experience.

Justin, I don't know how you didn't lose the cow. Can't let a cow go on her back, that will kill a cow in no time. Glad she survived, next time pull the calf (my two cents).

Have you tried straining your prepared yogurt through cheesecloth? It might help with clumps and make it thicker at the same time since it removes some water.

Could you graft a bottle calf onto Flossy? That way you could still get some 2022 beef for your freezer and the calf would help bring her milk in fully 🙂

Is there a calf in the area without a mom? Maybe you could get her to accept it. Or freeze the colostrum for when you have a sick piglet or calf.

Have you thought about getting a calf and Flossy could be it’s mom!? Maybe then the milk supply could go up and she would be happy plus if it was a bull calf then you would have meat!

In moms if the placenta covers the cervix it is called Placenta Previa.
So this is probably what happened to Flossy!
    Glad she is doing well!

The cow will freshen with out the calf if your milking. Ild have help her her when I know she struggling, and helped by pulling the dead calf. It's harder for them to deliver when the calf is dead. But even when their not dead sometimes you just need to pulled a calf.

Yeah, you need to get yourself a couple of horse leads, click on, click off, real quick and easy. Although, if you were milking one cow and Lilly was milking the other, that would be pretty cool! Also, I feel for the Beautiful One. When I was pregnant I was always too cold or too hot, could not get good rest at night, and baby had a habit of calling 1AM gymnastics hour. Keeping you guys in our prayers.

Ask at the feed store if a local dairy sells week old dairy calves...even if Flossie wouldn't accept it (as far as letting it nurse) you could bottle raise it for meat.

Will you guys be separating Stud and Flossy in the next month or so to give her a little bit of time to rest and recuperate so that she's not immediately bred again? or is that not a necessary thing?

PEMF will build bone fast. Doctors use it on themselves for broken bones. It's a great addition to overall health. I think it may help w lime effects. It's also used by horse trainers. You could get a system that you and your animals can benfit from, in case of illness or injury. BLESSINGS!

Any time I lose one, the mama goes. I don’t want disease or bad genetics on my farm. They go to hamburger at 4 years, because a lot of diseases are latent until 5th year.
Isolate to some sheep land to
Get her body condition up, and odds are if it’s sickness, prob won’t jump species
