I literally just watched a video that said, whatever you do , do not power on the board with no steppers attached - zero out the pot and then build it up slowly. Potentially could blow all your drivers
you should not touch the steper conections when the device is powered.... either plug/unplug them when device is "on" is totally advised on datasheet to produce damage to the drivers... so i think that video was made by an ignorant, cheers
Pretty sure you need to plug in the steppers before installing the drivers and power. Can cause the boards to fry. This was clear in the instructions I received and in some other videos...
No its the other way, for as far as i know. Never head problems. When steppers are conected and there is power dont disconect them, it can (not will) fry the steppers
the formula to regulate the voltage of the dvr 8825 according to the manufacturer's sheet would be "i max = vref ÷ (5. Rs)", because you calculated it with those values
@@pepperoni8 Thank you. I've had an idea in my head to make a router table where the lift and fence are controlled by steppers and a pad to dial in the exact distance. To set the stepper motor power the usb arduino and power supply need to be on, also all the drivers share the same ground pin so a male to male wire connected to the multimeer saves having to twist and balance whilst trying to take a reading
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm using this without GRBL and trying to find out how to add limit switches and push button to start a certain movement. Can you help or do another tutorial about this? Thanks!
Hi! Wonderful video. I have a couple questions. In your computation of current limit for DRV 8825, where did "x 2" come from? I learned in school you need to divide voltage by resistance to get current. VREF is voltage, isn`t it? Thank you for your time.
Vref is not the voltage that drives current through the motors that is Vmot from your large power supply. Vref is a control voltage its the analog equivalent of a control byte. this formula only works for this driver. different drivers have a different scaling factor and you need to read the data sheet to know how high to set it
@@andrewfell1074 does the voltage of the power change these setting? Can I run 12v at 74W or will I need to use a 24V at 144W? I think the 24V works out to 6A. So I’m wondering if I’m covered if my Nema 17s are 1.7A*3 + 2.0A, with the 4988 driver @2.5. So my setting would have 3 @ 0.68 and 1 at 0.8 for a total of 2.84A.
thank you for your informations :) can you maybe help me on how to control the stepper motor speed with a potentiometer knob? how would i implement that?
In other videos they mention you shouldn't install and power drivers unless the steppers are attached without risking burning out the drivers yet here it looks like its done. did you blow out any drivers doing this?
I'm a total beginner and don't know anything. Mahalo for the great video. One quick question. Where do the + ans - wires lead to? Do they go to an adapter that plugs into the wall or do they remain unconnected b/c there is a port to plug the little adapter into, and there is a terminal for the other wires.
Thanks for tutorial. I was wondering if i can use 4 stepper motors with this. Am turning my diy laser engraver into a cnc router and would like to use 2 stepper motors for the y axis.. Thanks in advance :)
I’m a little confused as to the 1.5A. The stepper shows a 1.7A max, so why 1.5A?, is it just to give it a bit of breathing room. Does voltage affect the VREF as well? Is there any difference between 12, 24 or 36v power usage?
Hi. If I want to pick a power supply for the shield using all 4 axis. What's the lowest current limit property for the power supply? (0.75Ax4 or 0.75Ax2x4). Is 24V 6A a good option?
Mam how much total voltage must be input in shield for 3 or 4 motor running in one shield? I try to run 3 motors with 12volt and one motor not run properly. That motor is fine because I change with other and there it run properly.
Hello there. Can I ask u a question if u have a little spare time to reply please? Q. Sorry I know these are probably for ppl with more exp than me but I need the help..LMAO
hi friend thanks for the tutorial, i need to ask you, what if instead of using 3 motors i want to use 4 for a cnc hotwire foam cutter? would it be still 3 drivers? or will it be 4? can 2 motors work on one driver? thanks for all your help
I forgot the shield was plugged in and removed a driver causing a spark, the multimeter marks 0 on my drivers, will I have to replace shield and drivers?
Hello. My drv8825 drivers don't working with the cnc shield (at .76v), the A4988 drivers they are very fine. In my MPCNC al steppers configured to 8's. 32's and 16's don't move the machine fluid.
kind of a waste to put those drivers on that CNC shield. 1) That's a CLONE of protoneerz cnc shield, so quality isn't there.. super thin copper cladding for the tracks == lots of noise, and less current capacity 2) That particular board only supports GRBL 0.9 3) That shield is also prone to losing steps due to cross-talk / noise on the signal lines. (That was resolved in later designs) 4) There are NO back-drive protection diodes on that, so manually moving the steppers can back-feed electricity into the board causing damage to the driver IC's
No, For the CNC shield to function, it needs the Arduino pins 2,3,4,5,6, and 7 to send signals/voltages. So the CNC shield has to be connected to the Arduino board and the Arduino board pins align to the CNC shield.
I watched another video on how to get this same thing to work and as soon as I plugged in the power the drivers had a puff of smoke come out of them. Then I found your video and that is when I noticed the other video had made me put the drivers on wrong. The drivers are prob dead now right?
Bonjour, beau travail! Pouvez-vous modifier le programme pour que les 3 moteurs tournent ensemble mais à des vitesses différentes ? Hello, great job! Can you modify the program so that the 3 motors run together but at different speeds? Regards
