The sound comparison between full steps and microstepping is only fair if you also increase the step speed so that the angular velocity remains the same in both cases. The speeds used here also seem very low compared to actual use in a 3d printer. Not that I in any way want to downsize the improvements brought by the TMC drivers, but you should compare things in configurations that give the same end-result, in this case angular velocity and also a load to apply comparable torque would improve the comparison.

Thanks for such amazing tutorial. I was thinking to buy this TMC driver but was in confusion. Your tutorial gave me perfect reason to buy this driver.

Hello, You mentioned in the video that the greater the step division, the greater the torque. As far as I know, the opposite is true. You get maximum motor torque with full steps, since the magnets face each other over the entire magnetization surface. The more you divide the steps, the more you weaken the contact surface, which gives less force.
    Can anyone confirm this statement?
    Sincerely

The TMC Drivers help some, but in practice I'be found not as much as I would like, or I should say my family would like. There is still quite a bit of sharp whine when the printer is moving. I think some of it is the belts. I've been trying to conceptualize a different movement system that doesn't use belts and might produce less noise.

On the 4988, I depend on the reset pin to remove the FET driver current from my motor. I hold sleep pin high, and enable low. On the TMC driver, how do I accomplish this? What model of the TMC has the equivalent functionality?

Can the MS1 and MS2 pins be controlled via software or only by connection to GND and 5V? I was working with TMC 2209 and was TOLD that such control was available on it, but later came to understand that on the TMC 2209 the MS1 and MS2 pins are used for setting up some parameter for UART control of the selection of Step type, e.g. Whole Steps, quarter steps, sixteenth steps etc. I really need to be able to control that via software and those pins directly, not through a UART connection.

I can't answer a basic question, in stepper motors nema 17, nema 23 or even maybe nema 34, I could use the RJ45 Network cables to make connectors providing power VCC, STEP, DIR, COILS 1A 1B 2A 2B , for example for 4 wires, but it could be 6 or 8 wires... I like network cables because the wires and connectors are well organized... my big question is whether these cables would support the voltage and current supplied to engines...

those "closed-loop" stepper boards with the oled screens (at least the two I ordered) DO NOT have the TMC drivers on them like you mention, they all have the old Allegro drivers. I thought the same way you did and bought two of them without doing much research and discovered that they were so much louder than my current drivers, I immediately switched right back, the closed loop control was cool, but honestly didn't make that big of a difference. if you're missing steps, you've got bigger problems than just needing to force it back.

You go through all the trouble, then don't analyze what aspect of the current waveform makes it silent.
