You must have the sketch selected before saving as. If the part is already a lib feature part, you must save it as a sld part file, then select the sketch and save as. Your sketch icon should have an ‘L’ next to it.
Hi there, i've got a problem. When i save the weldment profile as a library part i can't open it as a weldment in another part (it says the library part is empty). What should I do?
I am having an issue saving to the final folder. I do not have permissions to save in this location even though I am the administrator of this computer, any ideas? Many thanks, great Vid
save it in another folder like the desktop or so, and then open the direction folder and copy the file manually, it will ask you for administrator permissions and click ok, hoping this msg to be helpful
Thanks for the the good work, however how do I save my custom profiles in a folder on a different partition other than C and my custom profiles be detected by the software
I think it's important to "emphasize" a few non-intuitive steps: 1.) You MUST CLICK and leave the SKETCH HIGHLIGHTED then click save. It will help to save twice, again, after name creation. Why? It makes no sense. You know what will help you to remember this? How STUPID it is. 2.) You must "hunt" for the weldment folder after clicking the file format sldlfp. Unlike when you create a form tool, where it "smartly" directs you to the exact saving location. You must remember to back out to the LANG/ENG/Weldment folder. Again, just remember how STUPID this is. So many commenter's below got "stuck" on this.
Firstly, THANK YOU! but, I have followed step by step (even the comment on security settings, thank you) but still, when I try open my selection in SW, it only shows ISO and Ansi inch... Any idea why my custom profile wont show? I really need this to work
Make shure you select your profile sketch in the tree design, otherwise it will not show in the file. Also, check if you place in the right file, because you must put the file inside a folder with the name of the shape, and this one inside in a folder with the name of the standard and this one inside of a folder named Weldment profiels
Lol, If you came here preparing for the SW weldment certification exam. You better follow his instructions step by step and create a custom profile before starting the exam. Solidworks doesn't recognize the custom profile if you miss some details. Example: you need to select the sketch before saving, and you need to create the sub-folders just like he did.... I spent way too much time messing around on my own wondering why Solidworks doesn't recognize my profile, and you can't answer any question without getting this custom profile done.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge to everybody

You missed the part of the permissions to write in the folder...
It's very important to select sketch before doing Save As. Other wise don’t create a profile.

There is a better and easier way to do this. Just copy one of the default profiles and edit the sketch as you wish.
