I don’t understand everyone saying “they all sound awesome now”. The band sounds great for sure, but Stapp just isn’t there anymore. He’s always extremely flat, and sounds like an old constipated geezer trying to hit those higher notes. Definitely not the Stapp I remember, slinging those crazy vocals. I’ll definitely support the effort though, and already have tickets to see them in November!!
for me its the lack of grit in his voice. it seems completely absent and im also still going to support. also have tickets to see em! just stoked to hear the songs live!
You tend to forget Stapp pushed his voice way to far when he was young and it wrecked it to the point the band ended. They had other issues also, of course, but his voice was gone. Great singer, just had bad technique. You're hearing the technique now, but his voice is not as powerful as it once was. He's not 100%, but it's far from that bad. Tremonti is a great guitar player, but he is way too distorted for Stapps voice now. I play guitar in Hardcore/DeathMetal bands and I want that tone. LOL. This isn't Hardcore. To me it sounds like Stapp is having a hard time tuning with the tone. A bit less gain, and maybe even a half a step drop on the guitars might be what Stapp needs to match it better. That's what James Hetfield eventually did after he destroyed his voice in the mid 90's. Except Hetfield does not sound anything like he did in the late 80's, early 90's. I think Stapp sounds better, more like his older voice than Hetfield. Stapp sounds a lot better than Axel "Mickey Mouse' Rose, and Vince "Cheeseburger" Neil these days. LOL.
@luckymchl2074 I heard another recording of this cruise and he sounds significantly better than he does on this video. Heard the grit and everything that was missing. Other than that I personally had no complaints. I think this is just a bad video!

They don't sound that bad. You can't expect them to sound like they did in the 90's . I'd pay to see them as long as they aren't too far away.
