- The Battle of Veglaer, fought in August 1838, stands as a significant conflict during the Great Trek, a pivotal movement in South African history where thousands of Boer settlers, known as Voortrekkers, migrated from the British-controlled Cape Colony into the interior of South Africa. This migration was driven by a combination of economic pressures, resistance to British colonial policies, and a desire for greater autonomy. The battle represents a crucial moment in the conflict between the Voortrekkers and the Zulu Kingdom under King Dingane.

The Boers set an example using laagers, and this was in 1838... In 1879 the British at Isandlwana could have won if the ignorant commanders had not underestimated their enemy. Great video once again, keep it up.
Ohh what a treat ! Just getting bored on UA-cam and saw the post. These are so well made & informative.
You’re not alone there, bored stupid but these History Cinemas are very good. Unfortunately UA-cam is just presenting material already viewed & not highlighting those videos as already seen, so not getting much new material. 😢😢
Yes I’ve certainly have had some issues with the algorithm promoting new videos recently
Man, that's something. Gotta admire the Zulus for their bravery. They continue with their attacks while suffering losses. It's a cavalry charge without horses. This war is overshadowed by the other major conflicts. Doesn't get talked about. The Boers made use of the laagers more effectively. Unlike the British at Isandlwana.
ROFL! It wasn't bravery. It was "african" stupidity. That's why we run this bitch and you just pay rent.
If anyone is going to comment about the guns don't bother because its limits of the game
Clearly, this was just two clone armies going at each other. ;)
The martini Henry shown was not invented at this time
Never understood the point of wave attacks at all
Damn good history lesson
Yes indeed: don't try to take over or colonize the lands of others.
@@tonybarnes3858 This was in 1838, 185 years ago. It's 2024 and Imperialism is pretty much no more. What you said would only make sense if imperialism still existed, but it doesn't.
@@sebastianlassalle5312 Talk to Putin. And the economic imperialists of the Western far right.
@@tonybarnes3858 What you say cannot be compared to what happened back then. Whole continents wont be eaten up by any number of countries ever again. Putin can't take over the world, and it will be proven to him and his country if he continues with such wars. Just like Napoleon Bonaparte, he seemed unstoppable, but he was eventually overthrown by the world by simply one mistake: Invading Russia. If Putin commits one big error like Napoleon did, he will be done for.
@@tonybarnes3858putin isnt a colonizer lmfao
How about playing a game of hangman with that Zulu chief's name ..wow !! love these vids!!
Well done.
Its amazing how folks left Europe to come to Africa to live.
Think how crap their life must have been in the old country.
The Netherlands waz a relatively good country to live in in the 18th and 19th century. But many sought a wider expanse and more adventure than the small Netherlands offered
Netherlands was to small

Thanks for the feedback.
Also, maybe they had no clue the Zuli Tribe could draft thousands upon thousands of warriors.
Back during the colonial days of the USA (1600s) the Europeans were told you could find an Indian Wife with ease and marry.
I'm sure many of those indentured servants and others were later killed by Indians.

Also, they wanted land.
"Life, liberty, and the pursuit of property."
Land was so powerful back in the day.
In early USA history, you couldn't vote without owning land.
Have a great 4th of July 2024 weekend.
Opps. Rather, I hope the 80th D-Day Anniversary went well.
And may your bridges never be too far.
😉
And the Boers should be proud.🤣🤣🤣
Was there a litter problem in those days on the plains or extreme wind?

One European is worth a thousand Africans.
"one european is worth....": like by isandlwana?
Nonsense. All life is precious
Indigenous people live in harmony with nature. Us Europeans don't
