Welcome to The Fab Forums. My name is Kyle Voss and I produce Custom Motorsports Fabrication content of all forms for you. Carbon Fiber, TIG Welding, Metal Shaping, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Custom Choppers, and everything in between. I work hard to bring you new content on a weekly basis.
Here are some of the builds you can find on this channel.
I have built several Chevy trucks on this channel. The first was my 1964 C10 named Crown Spoyal and the most recent C10 truck project was the 1969 I currently have named the Black Pearl.
I am also finishing up a custom twin turbo Ford Mustang build I call the Gray Goose. It’s a 400 cubic inch Windsor style engine with twin 70mm turbos. I am hoping to make around the 1000 horse power mark to the tires on this particular build.
Last but not least is the one off custom hot rod build called the Bibbster. This is what I call a modern day hot rod. It’s made from an old Ford Mustang foxbody, but made to look like an old school open wheeled hot rod.
I also feature other fabricators and shops like Cutworm Specialties hand formed aluminum wide body kit for a BMW e46. Jeb Greenstone has also built a twin turbo, coyote powered model A style hot rod from scratch, and is currently building a Toyota TE72 wagon drift car powered by a 1UZ Lexus v8. Jeb’s custom fabrication skills are fun to watch and always make for good videos.
Check out my playlist to see some or all of these builds.

I love how it stays up until you really flick it down
I also like the low battery indicator
You gave more info on this helmet than Eastwood did lol
You just sold me on this helmet
...and I also use recording glasses, so that was extremely useful to me in particular lol

My first auto-darkening helmet was an Eastwood. It was their "Large view" helmet which I bought right when it came out. I really liked it when it worked. But it only worked for about a year before it intermittently wouldn't darken. I tried everything I could think of, but eventually I got flashed so many times I just couldn't trust it anymore and it ended up in the trash. Spent the bucks on an ESAB like 5 or 6 years ago and haven't looked back. Hard to say I wouldn't ever own another Eastwood helmet, since like I said, I did like it when it worked. But it did leave a sour taste in my mouth.
Thanks for video Kyle. Keep them coming!

Been almost 3 years since you did this review. How is the helmet holding up? Do you use it much?

  • @bgd73

I like it. I was welding out in the dirt driveway, dirty old steel, smoky flux. I got done with a 7 minute maximum, draper point fresh... and a pine tree at the edge of the yard had a smoking root. I ground looped...juice wanted the wet root. I jumped up and put the pine needles out... the side view allows for whatever other hazard I may be creating while welding. ;) I'll probably go get one.

I have other panoramic helmets that matched the 'window' size & width of that Eastwood, but at 3 to 4 times the cost! I'll wait until Kyle reports back with a full review of it after he has used it for awhile. Been using my current one for 35 years, so I don't want to rush out and get a new one right away.

Improving upon a good idea, to make it great. I have a Save Phace efp that claims to be 180 degree viewing, it's not basically a small center auto darkening set into a #11 wrap around the pillars on this look very small. It has the largest veiw ever! Perfect for a busy shop, can leave it down and function perfectly. My buddy has an Eastwood with the true color and it's awesome. Just hope the outter shield is tough. 5 bucks each. I want it.

I can use that periferial view for sure it’s a great feature...but my grief with that helmet are the controls on top of the helmet ! What they were thinking ??
Im going to be hitting those knobs constantly when I’m in a tight space, then i do a lot of mig as well and this knobs are not in a safe place for it.
I m going to pass on this ones , as soon they can cramp the controls inside , I will buy it , but for now , I pass, good try tho.
Thank you for the review, wonder how the reflections inside of those side panels and the lense will melt easy ! The ESAB had that problem and prompt they issue mine with new and upgraded polymer so it doesn’t melt and resist the grinding !
Maybe to toy around with it with Tig, but for heavy industry forget about it.
    Cheers.

Yeah I love it...I thought the best feature was the three displays but after using for awhile and them going back to my old helmet I love the true view feature. (doesn't have that green tint)

I like all the features you showed, not sure about the outside controls. Being that I weld in my 2 car garage, on my own trucks, it's probably not the right one for me. $200 probably turns into $300 by the time it gets to my door in Canada. But unlike some of the comments I've read, I still found this informative, when I get around to replacing mine. Some of my buddies who tig weld swear that ESAB is the best, and around $180 Canadian. Liked the video.

  • @trailerpark187
    @trailerpark187 7 років тому

I bet you get wicked double vision with that large arc on that outside cover plate. Because of how far the cover plate is from yhe actual lens. Lot of light bouncing around in there. But i will say it looks cool. Other than the knobs on top. Sparks and dust are bound to go in there.

    • @Thefabforums

I realize this video is a few years old but how do you like the true color technology lenses on this helmet? its lenses supposedly do not have that old school green hue that most welding helmets have... supposed to be more true to life color of the stuff your welding but that worries me because there is good reason why most helmets have that old school green tint.. thanks!!

Cool concept, Kyle.👊 I haven't seen this before now. You said the dividers that separate the front from the sides aren't too distracting. Would you say they are similar to A-pillars on a car? Honestly, I am a machinist of 23 years and don't have a lot of welding experience, but this helmet looks interesting. I have a small Miller Econotig and a cheap HF flux-core welder and autodarkening helmet, but if I ever decide to get a little more serious into welding, I wouldn't mind checking one of these out. Cheers, man!

My opinion on this is its good for iron erection welding (Ironworkers). Which I did for 6 years. It is good because you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times being so high up and having thousands of pounds swinging around you but the controls on the outside would not last with all the out of position welding Ironworkers do. Now I work in a shop fabricating and welding and I see no use for this hood. Alright concept but you could see Eastwood is trying to hard to compete. In conclusion, put the controls on the inside of hood and market it to Ironworkers. And I could see you're not into this hood either. Its ok but Eastwood is trying to hard.

Never had an auto hood till a few months ago after 20 years of welding. I went with the Lincoln 3350 and it's been great. The auto part is removable so I can replace the hood if necessary.

Seems gimmicky..... But saying that I would like to try before I'm 100% about it being a gimmick

This hood is for wanna be welders a real welder aka a CODE PIPE WELDER only needs a 2x4 window to look in the bevel...

Just a useless gimmick, you should never try to weld out of the corner of your eye, your depth perception is not good. The side lenses don't darken enough to protect your eyes from flash. I also see the control knobs getting damaged.

lol...sides darken to 11 that totally enough

The Fab Forums Kyle I enjoy your channel and usually agree with you but in this case I'm not on board. I'm no expert, however after welding for 40 yrs+ if I'm welding chassis or trailer frames, heavy steel ect and pushing 150-250 amps with mig or stick by end of day my 60 year old eyes are tired. The last 6 years or so I've been using a Lincoln helmet that auto adjusts to 13 and my eyes are good even after 5-6 hours of welding. For lighter metals it might be great but I want to save my eyes from the cumulative effects of a bright arc. I don't see it being in my tool box but if it works for you, go for it. One thing I didn't see on the Eastwood site is if you can use a cheater lens, just a thought.

this model does not support a cheater lens
