Definitely not the best game in the world, but it does exactly what it needs to, and sometimes, that's all you can ask for. I really love the changing background colors, it adds adds enough variety to keep me more engaged than I already was. I'm glad you can continue the Zero Punctuation style while making this it's own better thing. Amazing job, all of you.
What is depressing about that line is that people overlook that Robocop is a dystopian "Judge Dredd" with anti-capitalist messaging, and not "Hur hur, cool robot cop".
I’m so impressed with how quickly y’all pivoted to this. You hit the ground sprinting. I’m sure The Escapist has barely realized what happened by now. Well done!
There’s something about this game’s art style that really clicks for me. The faithful translation of 80’s practical (and low budget) sets and costumes works with the more modern, photorealistic graphics to kinda feel like it’s being filmed on set. It’s a neat vibe.
My existential dread at possibly losing Yahtzee when all the completely moronic BS went down at _the other place_ went down has been replaced with sheer delight at seeing him not skip a single beat or miss a single episode of fast-talking-completely-unfiltered-critic. And thank the gods for that. The world is going to hell in a handbasket as it is, and we don't need to lose any more of the little things that help us cope.
It's so funny at the escapist I remember there were struggles with trying to put the sponsored section really early or before the credits, and then as soon as you guys get your own channel, you nail where to put it directly after the music starts playing so we get that old ZP final gag effect
It's not necessarily that they were struggling to figure it out, and moreso they were directly obligated as to where it was supposed to go according to whoever was supplying the ad. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't allowed to play the music in the background even if they wanted to.
@@MizunoKetsuban oh that is 100% my assumption as well, I pointed it out because it feels like as soon as they are independent they can actually do what they knew would work best for the structure of the video
You know, I worried that this shift to FR from ZP would be a tough adjustment considering I’ve been watching these videos since I was like 14 years old. I know it's only the second episode, but I'd honestly already forgotten it looked different until I checked the comments. It's a perfect spiritual successor and the writing is sharp as ever.
They definitely are, love each of them, even the small ones at the precinct, which don't add up to much, but makes RoboCop feel like he is actually part of the police force.
I was a bit sad to confirm that such a (recent) game doesn't actually exist. I wonder if they could get Liam Neeson for it given how big he is now. [Insert obvious dick joke here.]
Any money not spent acquiring the likeness rights for 90s Liam Neeson should go to creating a bespoke physics engine for the mandatory milk bottle toss minigame
I want Teyon to have another go at Rambo. Their Robert Cop game should be more than enough proof that they might be ready to come full circle with their redemption arc.
@@kobuseksteen411 Robert cop is actually the name of a bootleg robocop toy that calls him the "furniture of law enforcement" Vinesauce Joel made a song about it.
Yahtzee pretty much just sold the game for them. He's trying to roast it hard but he pretty much said "They didn't fuck anything in particular up and it's actually fun shooting the bad guys" which is, very sad to say, quite high praise in this day and age. At $50 bucks it seems like a safe bet. And that it get's 80FPS AVG on a 7900XTX at 1440p Native with all RT turned on, while a 4090 gets 107FPS AVG at the same settings, means they didn't screw the RT implementation up, like we've seen in some other titles.
Funny how the two games currently reviewed for FR has been about games that Yahtzee wasn't too keen on per se, but nevertheless respected from an artistic standpoint: Alan Wake 2 was really up its own arse, but at least they committed to it, and RoboCop: Rogue City might not be the best as such, but at least they carved out a nice little niche for themselves in the nostalgia circuit.

I wanna give some positive feedback about the sponsorship timing! Having it at the end, but also giving 2 or 3 beats for the abruptness of the ending music to land works perfectly, it doesn’t mess with the flow or pacing of the episode, it lets Yahtzee do his thing and then it gets to the sponsorship. I remember some of the experimentation with sponsorship placement back at The Other Place, and this is a great spot to put it!
Big agree! If nobody had commented on this, I was going to. It finally feels like the 'right' place to put it for flow. A second or two for the music cue to slam in and then running through the sponsor verbiage over the music and then transitioning to patrons/credits all worked really, really well. I hope it does what you need it to do from an engagement standpoint because I can't see it working well anywhere else, especially after seeing some of the fails earlier this year.
@@IESUproductions Well, there still needs to be SOME incentive to keep the video on. Book-ending the sponsor with video-related content even if just credits seems reasonable to me. It feels like the best compromise.
The developer also seems to be quite capable on the technical side of things. Digital Foundry noted that this game is actually the first good third-party usage of the modern features of Unreal Engine 5 on consoles (and they actually just posted a video about that today).
It's a weird sign that this game is the best Robocop sequel we've gotten since the original. And no Robocop's Mortal Kombat kameos don't count, even if they also got Peter Weller back.
Those did give us RoboCop vs. the Terminator, so unless Teyon also makes that possible in a DLC, Mortal Kombat does have that one point over this game.
@@chriswihulu Teyon did also make the best Terminator thing since 2 so I definitely hope they can fuse both licenses into some unholy amalgamation of fun.
@@monkaWGiga I would certainly welcome it, so long as we avoid the exclusivity issue, I ran into with Terminator Resistance, where the Next-gen upgrade and both DLC's weren't put on Xbox. Although I love that game, that is honestly the only(big) negative I had with that game, other than there not being a NG+ mode, which actually would have fit that game perfectly, with Time Travel being a part of the plot.
Just got made aware of this channel from QosmicVoid's video on the fall of The Escapist and Qosmic stroking Yahtzee's massive, well-earned ego. I am a long-time Zero Punctuation fan, and was heartbroken to hear about it's fall. So much so, that I withdrew from the discussion entirely, for fear of tainting my nostalgia of the series I loved growing up. I read Mogworld more times than I remember, and have a special place in my heart for Jam, and when I saw a video done in the Zeeo Punctuation style by Qosmic, I thought it would be a good book-end to that chapter of my past. But nope, here we are, back on the train of wonderful content, wonderful creators, and sticking it to corporations that don't care about the lifeblood of their own company. It makes me so happy, seeing you all didn't give up, or were forced to stop. I doubt this comment will be seen, and if it is, you'd need to be some kind of Buddhist saint to read through my drivel, but if you do and you did, I want to say, from the bottom of my heart: Thank you for being an inspiration to so many. You lot are champions in my eyes; people defiantly striking out against the unjust, while still doing the things you not only love, but that we love too. Thank you so much. I wish you all nothing but the best. You'll have my viewership until the end.
@@mukkahThat should be Teyon's next project: a good Die Hard game. Bit harder than a good Robocop game since John McClane is a mortal man who only takes down like seven baddies in the entire first film? But it could be done. Maybe make them all closer to bosses requiring a lot of effort to kill.
I think it's refreshing that a game knows that it's exactly as good as it needs to be, it does what it needs to do, and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Not every game needs to try to be a 200+ hour GOTY
Well, as an unapologetic 80s geek I enjoyed the hell out of Rogue City, warts and all. I even enjoyed the stomping-around-town bits, since it let me live out the completely unrealistic power fantasy of being a cop who actually tries to protect the innocent.
It's almost like the stomping around town bits is actual important for world building. It was the side quests and extra little bits that made me feel like Robocop was an actual cop working for the city instead of just some humanoid weapon they send out whenever there's a big shootout happening.
@@lunarazure9969 1000% this, felt tedious at first, but it made more sense the more I played, that they treated him like any other cop and I love that!
I can't help but think that the RoboCop movies could've been improved by including a scene where the ocp psychiatrist forces social interaction upon RoboCop by making him gather signatures for a get well card from other police officers.
Even just the fact that put the sponsor at the end of the video shows how much better the Second wind team are as an indie group. Great work as always folks
last week episodes felt like a good start. this episode feels like business as usual but better! given the timeframe that is mighty impressive. so props to all of second wind for settling in so darn rapidly after a turbulent turn of events, hope it continues on!
I will say, the one thing I miss from ZP is definitely the imps. The dog just doesn't work as well to represent generic mooks, since it's much less socially acceptable to kill en masse.
thank you for placing the sponsor at the end of the video to not be intrusive to the video, literally makes me more open to watch it instead of just skipping it. Glad to have you back👍
When I dipped, escpaist subs were 1.22mil. Last I looked, there were down to 1.17. That's people who cared enough to click "unsub" button, which is, like, SUPER-duper impressive for online behavior / action being taken lol
Christ, TEYON? I haven't heard that name in a long while, they made this fantastic wizard-themed puzzle game for the DSi with a formula I've not seen replicated since. There wasn't a whole lot to it, but it was supremely satisfying.
I really liked how the sponsor was done with the video. It didn't feel heavy handed & was something that I'm genuinely interested it. Well done video team.
This is the first time I've been really happy to see a sponsor on a video. Not only was it placed in a way that didn't really harm the viewing experience, but it means y'all are getting the monetary support you deserve. Hell yeah, Second Wind. Hell yeah 👌
Love how you guys handle the sponsored ad spot. I appreciate that its at the end, not at the start or somewhere awkwardly in the middle. And, because it's you guys, I even watched it! Not sure if that effects your metrics or whatever, but I'm happy that you have sponsors!
Well, except for their Rambo Game, which was an on-rails shooter, that was so bad, Angry Joe reviewed it like 12 or so years ago. Although, I would totally want to see them take another crack at a Rambo Game, so they can overwrite their prior attempt.
Seeing the amount of patrons, the quickly rising sub count, and even getting some sponsorships for the vids makes me feel really good about the future of Second Wind. Way to stick it to the greedy corporate bastards!
Excellent work on the sponsorship placement! Liked the review as well. Teyon's not the greatest dev out there, but they have their niche and are pretty damn good with it.
Really hit the game on the head here, but I found it amazingly fun being an 80s kid myself. For the alternate guns, I found the Magnum and some of the Uzis quite more effective than Robo's base weapon. As for his base weapon, the upgrades can change it enough to make it even more insanely op. Fully Automatic + Unlimited Ammo + Piercing and you can just walk through the game. When it came to the fully armored enemies, they at first took me by surprise... before I realized, as you bluntly put it, their crotch was completely unarmored.... so I took it upon myself to Spay and Neuter every one I saw!
Still wild to me that these are the guys who made Bird Mania 3D, a very simple 3DS eShop game some of my forum buddies got a bit addicted to a solid decade ago
These ad reads are very well done! The amount of effort put into reading them really comes across and makes them feel like more than just plodding through the required text. It's surprising how much someone who sounds like they're really into the ad content can make it stand out so much. :D
As much as I love movement shooters (I've played quite a lot of them, my favorite game is DOOM Eternal), even I have to admit that there are quite a lot to keep up with these days, so it was just nice to have a game that was slower and straight up made you a walking tank, which is how I usually think of when I think RoboCop. And as a fan of the films, I'd say Teyon did great job, props to them
I notice that the bagel ground detailing on the edges has changed from a darker tone to a lighter one. This is so much better and less distracting, excellent change 🙏
Just want to say that that is the perfect place to put the ad read. I would sometimes skip some ZPs on rewatches because of the obnoxious ad read at the start (like the HSR one), but here it's in just the right place to be willing to listen even after the episodes done. Plus Jack Packard is great at them.
It's so nice to see Yahtzee getting to make his videos the way he wants to, not having some black suit breathing down his neck and making demands like censoring swear words. Long live Second Wind and Fully Ramblomatic!
Hey, Yhatzee. Odds are you won't see this, but I want the spirit of the message to be here. I'm one of your original viewers from about 16-17 years ago. I'm glad you found a way to keep your original project. You have no idea how sad I was at the idea that you might not be allowed to do ZP style content anymore. My entire family sat down and talked about what you might could do going forward and how you'd have to dodge NDA and copyright, and we thought you'd have to abandon ZP. Thank you for helping shape my standards for video games, thank you for being so damn entertaining and thank you for working so hard to keep making this content. I hope you haven't lost your passion for ZP, because I haven't even after all these years.
That sponsor ad was so good that I was like: "Damn, that looks pretty fun / cool!" until I remembered I don't play online with people / enjoy socializing / online crowdery, lol Damn, well done ^_^"
I respectfully fully disagree. Gives me migrain trying to look at it, and I think just sticking to one softer color (Or even just changing the shade of red) would help just so much.
Lucky enough to have randomly found ZP early on and gottah say, 2 episode in and already the intro song sounds familiar (granted watched the song vid once and 1st FR video a few times). So thankful for the warm cozy blanket of familiarity that we're blessed to still have. Little things in life, man, make such an effin' difference in these times of challenge. Much love and respect to all, eh ~a random canadian viewer
That does sound kinda fun! I’m curious if Teyon will be able to make good enough adaptations going forward and improve their skill at it or if they will use the success to create something original and risk it all.
Check out their Terminator game, I'd love for them to make whatever game they like, but it seems they really excel at movie tie-in games, so I'd love to see them do more.
Judging by the stream of this game you guys did on Second Wind Live the AI was given the least amount of thought in certain spaces. There were moments where dudes were just slowly advancing at the human-shaped tank that is RoboCop like they were immortal. There was also this NPC squad of SWAT officers that leisurely strolled, guns ready, through the building with all the veracity of a bunch of hand puppets (offset comedically by the very earnest clips of their voiced dialouge). All that said, jank or not, it's probably the most effective and streamlined "power fantasy movie franchise tie-in game" ever released (apart from the original Spider Man 2)
FR is only on its second episode, but it's already feeling 300% more polished. There's always room for improvement (the eyes still look a bit odd, for instance), but this was absolutely a pleasure to watch. Keep it up, Yahtz!
My heart just got all warm when I realized y'all had finally nailed the timing of the ad placement. This is it, boys. Just don't ask me why I'm so invested in something so simple.
I don't follow any creator content schedule. Except for Yahtzee... I really look forward to Wednesday because of this one little video. Small things...
No joke... I don't mind listening to Jack's lovely voice when reading a sponsor ad. I think right after the big music hit people expect at the end of an episode is the perfect placement for it, too.
Heartily agreed! Jack has an EXCELLENT voice for advertising, and frankly having someone else read the ad is less jarring to me than having the main narrator/creator do it.
I know it's not much, but I really appreciate the 3 second gap between the review and the ad spot. In the channel's previous life, too-sudden ads killed the vibe. This maintains it.
The simple act of seeing a list scrolling to show the games Teyon have made, when I don't believe there have ever been any real "animated" stuff in the show before, was quite joyful! Excellent work lads, and real excited for your future :)

It's not necessarily that they were struggling to figure it out, and moreso they were directly obligated as to where it was supposed to go according to whoever was supplying the ad. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't allowed to play the music in the background even if they wanted to.

I remember some of the experimentation with sponsorship placement back at The Other Place, and this is a great spot to put it!
honestly, I let the entire video play
Anecdotal agreement with that that, aye, timing felt fluid without realizing it from my POV
I'd actually prefer it after the credits.

I dunno, I'd say Robocop was the best judge Dredd film until Karl Urbans DREDD. And now DREDD is the best robocop sequal.
@@chriswihulu Teyon did also make the best Terminator thing since 2 so I definitely hope they can fuse both licenses into some unholy amalgamation of fun.

Although I love that game, that is honestly the only(big) negative I had with that game, other than there not being a NG+ mode, which actually would have fit that game perfectly, with Time Travel being a part of the plot.
If you're interested, I recommend the comic book adaptations of Robocop 2 & 3.
I doubt this comment will be seen, and if it is, you'd need to be some kind of Buddhist saint to read through my drivel, but if you do and you did, I want to say, from the bottom of my heart:

Well, as an unapologetic 80s geek I enjoyed the hell out of Rogue City, warts and all. I even enjoyed the stomping-around-town bits, since it let me live out the completely unrealistic power fantasy of being a cop who actually tries to protect the innocent.
It's almost like the stomping around town bits is actual important for world building. It was the side quests and extra little bits that made me feel like Robocop was an actual cop working for the city instead of just some humanoid weapon they send out whenever there's a big shootout happening.

I can't help but think that the RoboCop movies could've been improved by including a scene where the ocp psychiatrist forces social interaction upon RoboCop by making him gather signatures for a get well card from other police officers.

We need more games like this. This typenof stuff once filled out the catalogue of consoles like the PS2. Not every game should be trying to be AAA.
The sponsorship coming right at the end but not interrupting the smash cut to loud music is PERFECT.

Welcome back Yaz!
WHAAA? The ad read is at the end of the video? Wow that's (Unironically) innovation that I'm here for
Still wild to me that these are the guys who made Bird Mania 3D, a very simple 3DS eShop game some of my forum buddies got a bit addicted to a solid decade ago
Did also make an on-rails Rambo Shooter, which wasn't well received, neither then or now.
These ad reads are very well done! The amount of effort put into reading them really comes across and makes them feel like more than just plodding through the required text. It's surprising how much someone who sounds like they're really into the ad content can make it stand out so much. :D
It doesn't feel like a Wednesday without a new Yahtzee video to enjoy. 👍

All that said, jank or not, it's probably the most effective and streamlined "power fantasy movie franchise tie-in game" ever released (apart from the original Spider Man 2)
Started playing this on 1.5x speed and for a second thought Yahtzee got new energy from independent channel
FR is only on its second episode, but it's already feeling 300% more polished. There's always room for improvement (the eyes still look a bit odd, for instance), but this was absolutely a pleasure to watch.
Keep it up, Yahtz!
Well if nothing else ED-209's AI being kinda shit is an impressive commitment to accuracy.

I like the color changes of the backgrounds good job friends
Another viewer commented that everything but yellow was present, an observation I missed! XD
I know it's not much, but I really appreciate the 3 second gap between the review and the ad spot. In the channel's previous life, too-sudden ads killed the vibe. This maintains it.
