    My dad's sister bought a new 58 Edsel 4 door hard top. They brought me home from the hospital, when I was born, in that car. It was about 3 months old. My cousin had a 2 door hard top. I drove his car in 1977.

    Just a little tip that a full on kustom painter tod me years ago, was to ALWAYS run your NEW Blade along the paint edges before you unmask! I have always done this on all the cars boats and Trucks as well as models ever since! just that tip alone has saved me literally thousands of Man Hours and money over the decades! But heck I am 70, what do I know right? am building one of these as a pickup/ute as we speak! enjoy your channel here from Downunder!

      Gonna try the salt method for rusty rat Rod.
      But everything else is gonna be nice.
      I also want to put more time into the engine with plug, battery, brake and fuel lines.
      And try flocking the headliner and floor.
      I want this one to be awesome.

    Beautiful work! You have many great ideas for superior modeling. I did what seemed like dozens of these models when I was a youngster. You gave me some great modeling tips here that never occurred to me. Also, the Edsel Pacer and Ranger shared engines with Ford; it had the FE series 292 ci. The Citation and Corsair shared power plants with Mercury. One of the failings of the Edsel was that FOMOCO wanted it to be too many things to too many financial levels of buyers in an already over crowded market.

    Your Edsel turned out beautiful! I hate to be critical, but I was a little surprised you didn't color key the wheel covers. A little blue would look great. On a historical note, Edsel died in 1943. He really had nothing to do with the Edsel car. He was considered a man of great taste. Not sure he would have appreciated his name on that car! But I still like Edsels.

    I have the first issue of this kit from 2000 - the one with the Continental kit came a bit later. Lovely well detailed kit, but the quarter windows at the front are finicky (I lost one) and there was no tie rod for the front axle. You've actually put it in the same color scheme I used for mine, and my kit had the full list of colors available for the car in the instructions. Bringing back lots of memories here!

    Edsel Ford, the son of Henry Ford, did not start his own car company. Edsel worked for Ford, and was mainly interested in selling, while his dad Henry was more of an engineer. Edsel died of an illness in 1943, whle still middle-aged. The Edsel car was named in honor of him, and it was introduced in the fall of 1957 (for the 1958 production year) as a division of Ford Motor Company.

    I truly believe there is still money to be made making after market parts for car scale models. If I had the knowledge and abilities, I would do it in a heartbeat. The street tires on the AMT 67 Chevelle are beautiful. If ONLY they could be packaged in a blister pack,and alot of other parts that could be made at a reasonable price. Paying $30+ for a car model engine is ridiculous. Hopefully something good will come from people staying at home more cuz of the Covid-19. Young ,and older men will put down the stupid Xboxes and build a scale model .
    Car,Military aircraft civilian aircraft tanks,ships,whatever ! Games are fine but people get wayyyyy too obsessed with these games. Anyway, sorry for my rant . Keep on building! Lol 👍✌

    Just a bit of Edsel trivia, the motor & transmission were designed for Edsel, the "FE" motor & the FMX 3 speed transmission. Edsel failed epically, but the powertrain components were used through the 60's on the full sized Fords. The motor was the base of the epic 427 wedge. So, maybe Edsel wasn't the total failure after all.... BTW, great model. Colors great, nice assembly & I like how you tied the chrome together.

    Nice looks good the amt ertl kits are very detailed yup Edsel was a two year run because of bad sales they kept the motors which later became the fe which means ford edsel which became the 352,360 ,390, and 427 so fords big block lineup

    My favorite model channel. Love your attitude and easy going manner. The topic of chrome matching is valid and I agree that the majority of kits are over the top with the chrome finish. Very difficult for the builder. Your airbrush technique is strong but I question why use rattle can white? I am late to the party on this one but enjoyed it very much. Very nice subject executed with a high degree of skill.

    Edsel did do some car designs, in the 1920's and '30s. But He died in If I remember correctly, in 1941. The Edsel cars of 58/60. Were not very popular when they were in production.

  • @gojoe2833
    @gojoe2833 2 роки тому +1

    Actually lots of trim on cars isn't chrome; it's stainless steel or aluminum. By stripping the chrome and using chrome paint you make the model look more realistic! Amazing job, by the way! ;-) This kit was originally issued in the early 1990s. They had them at Toys R Us with a mistake on the price, they were selling for $3.33. I think it was supposed to be $9.99, so I bought a few of them!
    The engine was one of Ford's FE series V8s, so it was used by all other big Ford cars including Mercurys and Lincolns, in various cubic inch displacements. Of course they had unique valve covers identifying the different cars ("Ford, " "Mercury," etc) but they were basically the same engine.

I hope this will help you a bit. Thanks for the build. I enjoyed watching you build the kit. One question I have was I was wondering why you did not use Chrome foil on the kit. Thanks again.

  • @FMChimera
    @FMChimera 2 роки тому +1

    Edsel was just a Ford model; Edsel did not start his own company. It shared most parts with Ford/Lincoln/Mercury except body panels and one engine. That engine was the 410cid, 375hp, 475 ftlb "Edsel-475"(probably the one in this kit, available only in '58). The buttons on the steering wheel are the telemotor controls for shifting the transmission. The car did not fail because of its looks but because it was another big, high-end car among many, introduced at the start of a recession in the late 50's. That and Ford's marketing was tone-deaf.

    The company wasn’t founded by Edsel Ford, in the ‘50s Ford executives wanted to start a new brand that would fit between Mercury and Lincoln in their lineup and after a comically long research for a name they decided to use the Edsel name.
    At that time Edsel Ford was already death.

Pushbutton trans controls put off most of buying public hence Chrysler absndoned the design in 65

    • @modelcarvideos5829
      @modelcarvideos5829  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks!! So if I'm gluing painted parts I use super glue. It doesn't break down the paint. I only use model cement on non painted parts. As far as windows go I use testors clear window glue. It dries crystal clear and doesn't break down the paint. I'm still learning just like you. Every kit I learn a little bit more. Don't let it frustrate you.😉
