    Dr. Heiser’s work played a large role in me becoming Orthodox. I don’t know how anyone can read his work and not see the overarching narrative that has been totally lost in the west (particularly Protestantism) but yet still alive and thriving in Orthodoxy. May the Lord have mercy upon him.

      Great to hear! Again, I would have loved to have heard a conversation between Dr. Heiser with Seraphim Hamilton and Fr. Stephen DeYoung!

      Dr. Heiser was also a stepping stone for me! I emailed him shortly before his passing and told him I had found a good deal of confirmation of his insights in Orthodox theology. In his response he acknowledged some other folks tell him that as well, sad he didn’t get to dig further.

      Orthodoxy is built on Peter's doctrine which is not a valid doctrine during this Dispensation of Grace, which is Paul's doctrine.

    Thank you so much for this wonderful interview! My path to Orthodoxy started with Lutheranism, to reading through Scripture daily with The Bible Recap then to Bible Project then to Dr. Heiser then to Lord of Spirits podcast straight to my nearest parish and was received with my 4 kids during Lent! Glory to God for all those preciously placed stepping stones! My catechist introduced me to Seraphim and I share his studies consistently to help others confirm Orthodoxy from their sola scriptura mindset!

    Heiser definitely prepared me for becoming Orthodox. So did the Bible Project, John Walton, and some others. These kinds of protestants seem great at setting up people for engaging with Orthodoxy.

    Hey, just out of curiosity, where did you buy your collection of the Apostolic Fathers? I see it on a lot bookshelves in apologists videos but it can be hard to find.

    I always thought Heiser would have went Orthodox if they didnt lean on the Fathers so much.

      What ? If Heiser couldn’t see the Orthodox read the Bible deeply through the people who always read it best , the fathers , then that’s on Heiser

    I appreciate my Orthodox brothers and sisters in Christ. Question: if Orthodoxy as practiced and understood is THE way to worship and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through the world... where are the miracles confirming God's Word? Where are the gifts of the Spirit? Where are healings and the deliverance from demonic spirits?

    • @barrelagedfaith
      @barrelagedfaith  3 місяці тому +3

      Miracles, healings, and exorcisms are all throughout church history from ancient times to modern times as Christ's Gospel and Church spread throughout the world. Feel read to all sorts of free biographies and articles online of Orthodox saints/Christians. Let me know if you have further questions brother!

      @@barrelagedfaithI am not a cessationist and believe the church age today is a continuation of Acts and the Epistles, and have witnessed as much. However, few Christians of any group are walking like the early church. I believe the Church is fragmented, with sects split along theological lines, with some exemplifying strengths and truths others lack. So if we proclaim one particular group is in strict accordance with Scripture and precedent--should we not also see that same group function more along the same power and authority as the Acts church? I boast only of Christ, but how many Orthodox today are casting out demons or praying for the sick and seeing them recover? Or giving words of knowledge/wisdom/prophecy and witnessing miracles? I know these are not proofs of salvation--Jesus, Himself, says so--but did not God, Himself, give these as markers of Christ's authority in both Jesus' ministry and the Church? And shouldn't any church body functioning in accordance with the Spirit have signs and wonders consistently follow to demonstrate the power and authority of the Gospel? An absence having signs and wonders doesn't negate Christ's miraculous power unto salvation, but it also doesn't demonstrate that a particular body of believers is walking in the baptism of the Holy Spirit or preaching the Gospel in its fulness of power. Thoughts? In the meantime, I will research and study Christian Orthodoxy

      I've spent most of my life in Charismatic and "supernatural" churches.
      The truth is that Orthodoxy is the fullness, both in doctrine and spiritual continuity with the early church.
      I'm certain that if you sincerely search, you will find exactly what you're looking for concerning the miraculous and the direct experience of God's energies/presence.
      Side note: I'm learning that as I study the lives of saints from the last 20 centuries....those with the most miraculous demonstrations of power following their life have also been the most humble, repentant, self sacrificing individuals who had conquered their passions & ego.
      Unfortunately in the protestant world, there's way too much ego, Rockstar preachers, manipulation, bad theology, and even prelest (spiritual delusion) that accompanies much of the supernatural phenomenon in the protestant denominations.
