After watching your video, I decided to use the upright setting in my driver. I did lose about 10-15 yards in distance, but I hit every fairway my very next round. I usually hit about 9-10 fairways per round. But this was a miracle cure! Yes I lost a little distance, but I can deal with that. Thank you!!!
Another reason to use the upright/draw adapter setting is to counteract using a shorter shaft. As you shorten the shaft the lie angle of the club head naturally starts to flatten out. I use a 1" shorter shaft on all my woods and I now select the draw adapter setting (Cobra) on all of them to restore a more neutral lie angle because I was starting to push everything to the right in varying degrees (especially with driver).
I recently got the TM M4 driver and tried exactly this since I seemed to keep drifting right more with the M4 . . . and it seemed to mess me up more, so I changed it back. I might go back and give it a try again now that I've got more swings under my belt w/ the new club. Thanks for the interesting video!
Which one I'd choose would depend on what course I was playing. Green would be likely my default since it seems to be your best fairway finder. And I'd set it to fade when I play a course where I can let loose for the best distance/dispersion combo. That is, if those test results can be recreated on different days. One day of testing doesn't necessarily make for a definitive result.
I worked on my speed last off season. Using the Rypstick. While doing this for a few months I also worked on my driver settings. Ping G425. Tried all combinations and ended up Flat, +1* loft (11.5) nuetral. Hit them straight pretty much all year while keeping up with my playing partners in distance. I could probably had my fitters (TXG) do this in an hour but off season had lots of time.
I've got adjustable hybrids (Callaway Epic SuperHybrid 3H & Callaway Apex 21 4H and 5H) and made them a stronger loft and they have been going farther. Great hybrids if you're looking for one and if you find a used in a great condition it will be a great value.
Great Video as Always.. About 30 Days ago I adjusted my 9 Degree Callaway Mavrik Driver to +2 (11 Degree) and Draw Setting. It made a Huge Difference. Now hitting the ball 15 - 20 Yards more because of Ball Height and Straighter Ball Flight. Also recommend Get Good at Golf Channel. 10 Minute or less Video on a Single Topic. Worth Subscribing to.
My bad shot is left. I play my TM Sim in the upright setting favoring the middle weight towards draw. Can’t explain it but I hit straighter drives in this setting. Slightly heel side of center if the club face. I am looking to pick up the same Stealth driver you have.
The adjusting tool is a torque spanner so it only requires one click to achieve the correct torque settings on the retaining screw turning it so it click’s numerous times one achieves unnecessary wear on the rachet in the tool
Good call - the first thing I did to my Mizuno ST-X was take a hacksaw to the shaft (44.5" now) and set upright. It does sit toe-up a bit but seems to like it. Will try it on the M4 I can't hit for toffee!
Very interesting, my bad shot goes to the right. I’m going to change the settings on my TaylorMade sim tomorrow when I go out to play a round and see what happens!
Got to be in the upright position for me, dispersion excellent as like you say, you could throw a blanket over them. Sacrificing a little yardage for better control, I could live with that.
Have to admit that I have never played with any of the adjustability of any of my clubs. I am having enough trouble just putting a consistent swing on the driver. Seems like "cart before the horse" thinking to mess around with settings before that aspect settles out.
disagree robert.. a different setting may just help iron out a flaw in your swing, make you a little more consistent and hence give you more confidence - which as we all know is the greatest ingredient to play good golf...
Watched both videos and it's great helpful content as usual. My Cobra doesn't have an upright setting but does have a draw setting on the shaft sleeve, does this have the same effect?
I don’t understand slicing, I struggle with a hard pull/draw/hook and can’t hit a push/slice under any condition…. I hate this game but tee time is 9:45 tomorrow…
@@JamesRobinsonGolf i did exactly the same thing watching this at midnight in Bangkok on a sturdy night. Even booked a game on Monday to see how my SIM goes in the upright position - thanks guys & wish me luck (coming off elbow surgery btw - will be my 1st round in 12 months - so excited)
James did you realised that the lie angle on Taylormade drivers tend to be flatter than other manufacturers in astandard setting, so will have a tendency to fade. Also if the customer picks a shaft and there flex TM actually builds them half a flex stronger ! Watch the Mobile Clubmaker Golf on UA-cam.
i was in FL visiting dad and a buddy was like you want a new driver head well new to me i was like yeah . so i take it off while he goes to get it . he cant find it i put my head back on and we go golfing now . i will add he is a golf instructor . i cant hit a fairway to save my life now and my driver has been the rock of my bag . when in doubt break out the big stick and just swing softer . well after struggling through the round and him telling me to play the slice i did just that because after putting two ob i had no choice . found out when i put it back on i put it on lower loft and that opens the face . i used to have it on high loft . i also would raise my hands before hitting if i didnt i would still slice some . going out to check if this fixes everything .
ok switched it to upright and bam they were straight . then i started to try and curve it left and it was at the end of the range session i got tired and it started to go away . can you do the same thing with 3 woods ?
that's actually quite a disappointing ending - with the upright setting which appeared to improve your accuracy - but then NOT trying upright in tandem with draw / fade settings to see the results...
Perhaps I have misunderstood but you advocate getting fitted by ofac professional. You presumably have and are then changing the lie angle he fitted you for…contradiction possibly??

changing grip, ball position, tempo. I have a SIM2 Max D and reviewing my swing in slow motion. and learned what my club face was doing at impact.

Very informative James. I would select the fade and/or the upright setting. Didn't know about the upright setting.

I cut mine to 44". Did you add weight to the head.

Do they have the same setting on a callaway rogue st d
Well done James 👏
James, looking at the dispersion u may need to look at your settings, u’ve made some slight swing changes this year (Pete Cowan’s video was superb)

Contrary to this, my driver has a flat setting. What would this do? Presumably the opposite to your upright setting?
Watched both videos and it's great helpful content as usual. My Cobra doesn't have an upright setting but does have a draw setting on the shaft sleeve, does this have the same effect?
Yes.
Thanks James
Could be worth a try ! The lower spin looks appealing ;) my only issue is bad swing is a hook 😮 that needs to go if it works ! Great video
I use the Jumbo Max Ultralight grip on my driver to reduce the dreaded hook shots. Try it!
What manufacturer and model was the ball that split into two pieces?
My last two driver fits my fitter fitted me in the upright position and it certainly helped with my driving, enjoyed this type of video James
I don’t understand slicing, I struggle with a hard pull/draw/hook and can’t hit a push/slice under any condition…. I hate this game but tee time is 9:45 tomorrow…
James, you should speed train this winter. See what type of gains your can get. Video the journey
I would select the fade setting. It is 4 yards longer, I am still in the fairway and my dispersion front to back is only 3 yards.
Excellent 👍
*walks into other room, picks up driver, adjusts to upright......sitting here believing I'm hitting every fairway next week 👊😅

Interesting James, but where was the '50 yards further' gain...did I miss it?

You’d have to go green. Such smooth swings as well.
I can adjust my driver all day long. Still the archer though

🔥🔥🔥
I think I'd be prepared to sacrifice 20yds of distance to get a dispersion like the last set, let alone 1 or 2.
No upright setting on ping g425😢
You could try a longer shaft (if you are not already at the 46" legal limit), which would also make the club head more upright.
Still a little unclear. When you changed the lie to more upright, how did you retain the loft setting? Thanks
Because it spins directly round
Which setting gives 50 more yards ….I missed it
Soon as I put it in to upright I was just hitting straight pulls 😢😢
I'd rather be fit for a fixed head, it would save money and stop me messing about thinking it's the club and not me.
Just move up a tee box, that's 30 yds right there
Perhaps I have misunderstood but you advocate getting fitted by ofac professional. You presumably have and are then changing the lie angle he fitted you for…contradiction possibly??
Read pga
Not at all. The fitting one a year ago. And being a PGA Pro myself I understand what the changes do.
Wrench question: aren't we supposed to stop at one click? I notice you often reef on it for 2-3 clicks...
Once it clicks it stops further tightening, so it doesn't matter.
That wrench should be binned...... if you want it changed book a lesson with a pro and get them to make any changes to help
i agree, adjustable clubs are lame
Can’t believe this video is almost the same as the one on your other channel. Bit disappointing
Clearly the golf gods knew you needed to watch it twice.
