Excellent! A video which explains that a running background is not always necessary to start trail running. I'm a Hiker and hopefully a soon-to-be Trailrunner.
Hey Sean! You can make the transition pretty well! I think spending time on the trails is the most important thing. Honestly I think a hiker can transition to trail running more easily than a road runner, because you're familiar with the trails. I LOVE trail running! Hope you gain a love for it too! Feel free to hit me up with any questions!
The bells ring I am here. To me a more effective way of hiking ☺️ able to get a 25k day hiking in 2,5 hours 👍. Great video ☺️ jeah it's all about fun enjoying and loving it. To me it's so great cause it's not competition only me nature an nothing else. If you love it speed comes over time ✌️
Thank you! That's something I love about trails as well. More about getting out and enjoying the earth!🌄🌄🌄 Though I do love trying to best my previous times on Strava segments! 😜🏃🏻♂️💨
May I suggest a running club as well to help find trails. Also look into Ragnar 24 hr trail races. I have done many and you can join a group. Just get out there.
The club is a good idea, I know a group in London that runs several times a week in London but organises trail running once a month outside of the city.
Our 7 year old LOVES trail running. Downhill only. He eats a lot of dirt.... and snow. Seriously though, it's good to get some trail running in. If you're out with your mates it can give you a real edge if you run into a bear. Remember: You don't need to be able to outrun the bear, you just need to be able to outrun one of your friends!
Thank you, Martin! That means a lot coming from someone with as much experience as you have! Couldn’t agree more that if you try our trials you’ll likely fall in love with them! I know I did! 🏔🏃🏻❤️ Thanks so much for dropping by, watching, and leaving a comment!
thanks for giving practical tips while making trail running really approachable - no need to rush and buy new gear! i ran xc ten years ago and i’m just getting back into running. i’ve been running exclusively on the road but i can’t wait to hit the trails, thanks for the helpful tips!
This is the best advice you'll ever get if you're a hiker that is really interested to try trail running now. Thank you so much for the tips! Very helpful! 🥰🎉💯
Great video! I’m about to start my trail running journey. Being a “runner” has always been a goal of mine. I love mountain biking and hiking so figure if I’m going to run might ad well be on dirt!
Buffs are a total game changer! I bought a bunch and just have one in each of my packs! Pretty soon that 50 yards is going to start increasing and you'll be doing miles and miles! 😁🏃🏻♂️💨 Thanks for watching, man!
Great and super helpful video, thank you! I have been road running for years and just started trail running and I love it! On my first trail run I took music along but felt really weird, somewhat unprepared for what might come my way.
I have been a road runner but just dislocated my knee so looking to 'mix it up' when back to health again. I enjoy hiking so trail running has always appealed to me
If you enjoy road running and hiking, you DEFINITELY have to try trail running! I love it! I feel like it's easier on my joints (I've had knee problems as well, so I feel you on that!). Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Start 'em young!! Have to be able to out run your friends so they can be the bears snack! 😆
Top advice, everyone needs to try out the trails & I'm sure most folk will fall in love with them when they do ❤️🏃

Nice man! YES I will say that I think trail running is so much more enjoyable than road running! Hope you love it!
Buffs, never leave home without it!! Although you plead a good case, I still think I'll keep my running to 50 yards or less. 😀

Great and informative vid, Jeff! As I only got into trail running this year, and am more used to the road, I can only agree with your tips.
Thanks, Timothy! I never would have guessed you just got into trails this year. You are crushing it! Thanks so much for watching!

What are some trails you’d recommend in SLCO for beginners outside of the Herriman system?
