I have been collecting Vacuum cleaners for years now. Back when I first started, There used to be a Kirby service center in my town which was owned by a guy in his 90s. He used to give me cool stuff and parts for free as well as taught me how to do certain things. He always said that he was supposed to promote the new stuff, but he didn't need the money of any sales, and he always said that the older machines clean just as good as the newer ones, the older ones are just more durable. For most people I would recommend the Legend/heritage ii. Although my personally favorite Kirby is the Dual Sanatronic 2. I much prefer the smaller size of the D80 and older for home use because they weigh less to push, and they can get into tight spaces better.
Man some of those you show here are beautiful. My first Kirby was a Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80. My wife said it was hard to push but for me it was easy... This was about 1970...
My first Kirby I saw in action was a heritage 2 which my parents bought in 1988, from that day on I wanted nothing but a Kirby vacuum . My 1st I bought new from Kirby was my g4 in 1994 . Was over the moon when they delivered it , I vacuumed everything in sight 😂
The Heritage II mini-emptor can be used to retrofit vintage Kirby vacs dating back to the model 516. Anything prior won't fit because the sani-emptor uses a two prong bayonet coupling rather that the three prong design used up until the Legend II.
My Heritage 2 is the best of the older machines imo, you can use the modern hepa bags with it still, but my oldest is a 509 at 75 years old that I just refurbished
The Tradition is probably my favorite vintage Kirby mostly for the color. As var as vintage Kirby's go, the Classic Omega is probably the oldest I would get, parts availability is about the same for it as it is the Classic III, it's the Classic 1cr where parts availability becomes difficult.
A nice summary. Quite the collection you have Dean. I still like the look of the Classic III the best; and as you have conveyed in prior videos, it really is a trooper and a workhorse.
So looking to upgrade a Heritage to the newer Hepa bags, if looks aren't a factor: Could a Legend 2 and up mini-emtor & hose fit or are the fittings different?
It depends what condition it’s in , Kirby are pretty much bulletproof technology. Built to last , I still use my Classic 3 from 1978 with amazing results 👍🔔
We have that model. It was factory reconditioned by Kirby in 2011 and is still going strong. I was about to replace the bulb and looking into LED retrofits, I'm probably going to just buy another regular bulb for now. I think we made a good investment getting it reconditioned. It came back all shined and buffed out, with a new bag. Works great!
I disagree as far as getting an old Kirby. I have a 1973 and a Sentria. I have to tell you the 1973 does better than the Sentria. Through the years all I've done to it is change the belts and empty the bags. I am interested in the difference between the 1973 and the 1976 Omega.

I’m personally using a 510 that i got for free from a vacuum shop! (was in the back and was planned to be a ‘for parts’ vac, but was never chopped up)
Nice Kirby , thanks for great comment and support of my channel really appreciated 👍🔔

Love that whole line up. Great old Kirby's.

i have 2 heritage and 3 kirby legend !! In my small collection I could not dream of buying a new Kirby
Sweet video any info on the next model

Yes they will fit , I used that upgrade on my classic 3 to use Hepa bags and run sand tests in my Kirby battles
and today I got to buy a legend !! more with full accessories the machine runs perfectly bought for £26😮 here in 🇩🇰🇩🇰
Enjoy!
Would you say a Sanitronic dual 80 would be too old? I found one locally for $80 with the original attachments.

I have found 2 Heritage II's, and one of them doesn't have a belt indicator light on it.
The early H2 models didnt have the indicator light
