Some of the prints and cuts I appreciate. You’re spot on about the giant logos, though. I don’t mean to be a snob about it, but having grown up in an area where outdoor recreation is a big thing for the residents and the tourists who cone here, if you show up in boots or a tent with Gucci/The North Face plastered on them, you might get some bemused looks. You’re in the woods, who are you flexing to?
Whether the collection is bad or not, I love the fact that Michele is branching out and starting to collaberate with other brands. Definetely want to see more of this under his helmet at Gucci.
I agree about the large logos, some of them I messed with (as if I could even afford them), but I found myself wincing at some of the really gaudy pieces. I do think its good that he's collaborating with other brands though, it will be interesting to see what could come next.

i’ve been really fascinated by the gap bridging (if you like) between fashion and outdoor/athletic/performace wear, especially with brands like salomon, it’s so funny i used to think of it as a brand for middle aged white camping couples, now i regularly see lots of stylists / makeup artists / photographers etc on set wearing salamon trainers (i also may or may not have some hiking boots from them lol) ! i also get lots of compliments on my stella mccartney boots with vibram soles (SO comfy, waterproof, incredible for walking and look great)...will be really interesting to see which performance wear x high end collabs are born in the new year!
I agree about the logo mania, at the end of the day people will buy this collection purely to flex. I just can't see true North Face fans and hikers actually wearing this while camping or hiking, but it'll be worn on the streets for sure. One thing I'll say though is that Michele is a genius designer and branding expert
I can see a lot of this stuff in the deep discount bins by the end of the next Christmas season... I've seen the prices and even at 80% off it would still be very expensive.
Great video thanks! As you noticed in the comments Alessandro at Gucci has collaborated with other brands. They have collaborated with brands like Comme des Garcons and Globe-Trotter to create bags, some have appeared on their runway shows, and have continued their collaboration with Disney which started quite early on. They've also done collabs with Mr. Porter. I think they are making very particular choices to collaborate with specific brands to tap into the "hypebeast" type customer, the constantly growing young wealthy Asian market and of course the overlap of those two.
Personally speaking, I wear Rick most of the time, I'm not the typical Gucci fan but everything Alessandro has done is GOLD, I love it all, I wish I could pull it off more of the time, the branding and maximalism go with it...
typically you're not going to pull a brand you collab with in a totally unfamiliar space (like ur point about Yohji and Supreme, its not going to go full avant garde) so thats what I feel like is going on with these pieces. They're kinda Gucci, kinda NF - About time Gucci collaborated tho
I agree with the oversized logo thing, it would look so much better if it were smaller. The people who care that you are wearing guccixnorthface will notice anyway. But I like the pictures, bc to me it looks like a group of arty, slightly weird and indoorsy people who suddenly decided to go on a hiking holiday in rural Switzerland, and all the locals laugh and shake their heads at how they look. I feel I could be part of that group of friends. I think I like the campaign more than the clothes, although I think the floral coats and hiking boots are nice.
Agree with you on the use of logos. For example, would have liked the hiking boots if the logo was more subtle. Am thinking what if they incorporated things like the horsebit instead, I think that could be interesting
This collaboration with The North Face x Gucci looks identical to the collaboration that The North Face did with Brain Dead. I expected this collab to lean more towards a high-end luxury look and feel, but with a rugged outdoor vibe.
The sad thing with the logomania is that the customer base of a Kering/LVMH brand wants to flaunt the fact that they could afford the piece over any interesting silhouettes, if anything it's funny to see brands like AMIRI pop up since they found a way to get the same audience without tons of branding
Would you like to see these new cuts on standard TNF pieces? I would love to get the puffer skirt but I can’t afford the Gucci price point and I don’t want the giant logo.
It would probably be a breach of contract if the north face just made the whole collab as their own a few months later but that really depends on the agreement in the contract of the collab.
i agree with you about the big, blocky, loud branding....i'd go as far to say that it is gauche..who would buy this stuff? who wants to be a walking billboard? (i get it though....Asian people do!! i lived in Korea for years and you see it all over there...and even worse than that, they are paying 2-3X what Americans pay due to import taxes and other markups)
Yeah Gucci's cool and shieeeet, but Matthew Williams and Kanye Produced WHOLE LOTTA RED. AND THATS A DUB . the merch is fire. I love how Carti pays homage to Saint Peter and his iconic cross, Carti's intricate use of the Catholic symbol of the Pope really shows how in depth these bible refences go with Jordan. Cant wait to rock that at church, nah mean. #JesusGang
Oh yes I remember this collaboration actually. Been looking into it deeply since reading this comment and I was actually wrong. I read it via 10 reputable fashion publications and the rule of sourcing information is if something is consistent among 10 respected sources of information it must be true. That’s on me for trusting publications in doing their due diligence. Going to edit that part out of the video, many thanks for this comment ❤️
@@FashionRoadman No problem 👍🏾 Thanks for sharing your process on how you determine something is true. That pretty interesting to me as someone who doesn't come from a writing background
@@rudylabsilica2286 North Face has fallen far from its roots as a maker of the best mountain tents money could buy...but to their credit, they do take at least some of the profits from fashion and "outdoorsy apparel" and invest in R&D for real outdoors equipment. However, I'm not sure it will save them in the long run because once TNF's street cred runs out, as it surely will, I wonder how many mountain climbers will still want to be seen wearing them...they already are seen as off-brand among many hard-core outdoors enthusiasts (such as me)...they are no Patagonia or Arcteryx, that's for sure.
I know it's slightly late but... merry late Christmas to you all. Wishing you a happy new year.

Exactly! Like, who are they trying to impress? We’d all be staring at them thinking ‘this is probably their first time.’ Haha!

I just got Balenciaga hiking boots and I keep getting compliments/ people coming up to me in public. Wear them with suit trousers/ wide leg jeans.

I really liked their collab logo, but agree with your point that a more discrete sizing and placing would’ve elevated the designs more.

and I love the flower puffers and the puffy skirts
id love to see a video about your worst & best of fashion in 2020
The cropped red jacket though on that girl is fire
this dynamic of collaboration reminds me of anna sui x teva.... outdoor wear meets designer. i’m a fan.
Not only is designer outdoor wear impractical, but these designs are tacky as hell 😂 they look like cheap bootlegs
Your pronounciation of "Grenoble" was pretty decent, you just don't pronounce the "e" at the end, it's silent in French ;) Great video btw
Bro...
I think that the puffer jackets and the skirts where awesome, they seem very similar to North Face but with the spirit with what Gucci is.
Thanks for this video. I was curious about this collab.
I liked a lot the collab honestly, I think they could of done it better but overall I really liked it

the styling is very nice
Thanks, great vid man
The logo mania is crazy
Looks like aliexpress non existent collab
My 2 cents: The people wearing North Face for fashion/vibe, will buy North Face, not a collab with North Face.....
well not the people that wear north face for the real "mountain" utility, but the ppl that wear it bcs it's trendy surely will
Great vid🖤☃️
How do the hoodies run ? True?

Other than the crazy branding, I thought this was a good choice in in the company to collab with.
🤝
How do these collabs work? Would North Face pay Gucci or does Gucci pay NF?
I don’t know as I did not see the contract, but normally the larger company pays the smaller company a flat fee or performance based royalties.

why does the collection feel like a contradiction ?!
It is. North Face is outdoorsy apparel- I would love to see somebody wear their $3,000 puff coat and boots to hike in the woods.
