I've solved the problem of the jet lag twice a year. I don't change my clocks! Living alone this is easy. My household is always run on Standard time. During DST, if I want an appointment at a certain time, I tell them an hour later. If someone says that they are visiting at a certain time, I am read any hour earlier. I have a post it note in my kitchen a s a reminder of which time we are on. I consider it one little victory to control my life myself, instead of conforming to a stupid arbitrary law.

I’ve switched to Universal Time for that past decade, thank you very much. My computer can keep track of appointments in any time zone, and since I have coworkers and clients everywhere from the west coast to the east coast I _need_ to specify the time zone for all meetings anyway so “local” time isn’t very useful.

Sunset would still occur at 4:30 pm in winter but sunrise would be 8:00 instead of 9:00 am, which is what would happen if we were on permanent DST. You'd only notice the sun setting at 8:15 pm instead of 9:15 in the summer if you were on permanent Standard Time.

@@pjesfNo, sticking with standard time means you no longer “spring forward”. The middle of the night would continue to happen roughly around midnight (actually 12:12 AM in Portland) and since night at the summer solstice is about 8⅓ hours long sunset would be 8:03 PM and sunrise 4:22 AM PST. Personally I think it makes more sense to have midnight happen in the _middle_ of the night and noon to be in the _middle_ of the day.

Daylight saving time is a better standard because the sun doesn't go down by 4:15 pm two months out of the year that way. More sunlight in the evenings is better because more people are up and about during that time and so it would prevent car accidents, crime, etc. which happen more in the dark evening hours. As a woman, I'm sick of having to be inside when it's dark, when I just want to walk my dog or go to the gym. If the issue is school starting when it's too dark, then just change school hours, not time zones.

I'd just as soon Congress pass Standard Time full-time nationwide. As it is, it's DST for the bulk of the year and Congress wants to make THAT permanent -- which for us northern tier states means in winter we're sending our kids to school in the dark and we don't see the sun until 9:00 in the morning in December. The sun's out for almost 16 hrs in the summer so losing an hour of light at 9:00 pm is not a huge sacrifice. We learned this during the oil embargo in 1973-74 and Congress was forced to switch back to Standard Time.
My only thing is if WA is still on DST you're matching Oregon time for 4 months and the rest of the time you're waking up an hour later to get to work in Portland, while losing an hour off work in the evening. This is gonna mess people's circadian rhythm as badly as Spring Forward-Fall Back does now.

The entire world was on standard time year-round until less than 110 years ago. That is when DST was started as an experiment in certain locations. The only reasonable way to stop time shifting is to return to standard time all the time. That's practical too, requiring no federal involvement. Certain activities and institutions are better suited to daylight hours. They will sort out what to do for seasonal changes, just as everyone did before DST. It's really not complicated. What is complicated is DST, which forces everyone together into a disruptive arrangement twice a year, costing damage and lives. It's way beyond time to declare this experiment a no-go.

States can only opt out of DST and remain on standard time all year
Permanent DST bill needs approval from Congress
Permanent standard time doesn’t need approval from Congress so it’s faster to end clock change
This is the main reason why we still changing the clocks
Oregon would have stayed on permanent DST since 2018 or 2019
It’s 2024 and you are still changing clocks
If you want to stop the clock change in USA then it’s best to stay on Standard Time
If you want later sunset in Summer then carry on with the clock change
Permanent DST is federally prohibited in the USA and the bill never works
This is why Oregon doing permanent Standard time bill so they don’t need to change the clocks
The clocks will change soon in US and Canada
Clocks will be set forward 1 hour from 2am to 3am on Sunday 10 March as Daylight Saving Time starts
Sunrise and Sunset will be about 1 hour later on 10 March than the day before so there will be more light in the evenings
      As example
Sunrise at 6:15am and sunset at 5:45pm during standard time
      When changing clocks to DST
Sunrise at 7:15am and sunset at 6:45pm
Basically it’s just us changing the clocks

so instead of getting up at seven in the morning when you're getting a twinkling of light, till four in pitch darkness, you get up at seven to darkness and go till 5 pitch darkness. not too safe for the kiddie winks waiting for the bus you still don't see daylight. by mid-summer it will get dark at 9 instead of 10 big whoop In Alaska it doesn't get dark until midnight and lights at about 2, it will get light trust me it's called the rotation of the earth it doesn't need our help, all what you were told were lies about the farmers, kid labors, school summer break etc it was done for ww2 reasons and nobody knows why.

You are still going have shorter days in winter and longer days in summer
Changing the clock doesn’t create more daylight or darkness

I have latest sunrise at 8:06am and earliest sunset at 3:51pm
      With Daylight saving time
      Latest sunrise would be 9:06am
      Earliest sunset would be 4:51pm
It’s just us changing the clocks and it doesn’t matter if we on standard time or DST
We not changing the sun instead changing our clocks lol
Shortest day is 7 hours and 49 minutes
Im used to it and it doesn’t matter if we change clocks or not
All DST does is we wake up and start our day earlier
Starting work at 8am DST change to 7am Standard time

What time is your earliest sunset and latest sunrise during Standard Time
Then set the clock forward one hour to DST
Permanent DST has failed in many countries because of Dark mornings
      Russia from 2011 to 2014
On 26 October 2014, clocks were set back 1 hour for permanent Standard Time and since then they don’t change the clocks
USA and UK tried permanent DST
      USA only lasted a year
      Uk latest 3 years
Chile tried it in 2015 only and went back twice a year clock change
