Great idea to constantly check... We just changed the bedding in our RV and discovered s bot of mold... got a video coming out this Sunday about that.. there are some things that just can't be avoided.. but some good preventative checks and maintenance is a great idea. Happy New Year!
Happy new year guys , we had mold too and some extreme low temps last month , low for us at least , around 10dgs f , ruined a bunch of stuff , hopefully everything will be ok when it thawed , will watch your video on sunday , have a great week
Nice to check on the van regularly, ones keeps wondering if you missed anything do the winterising!? . Looking forward to your 2023 trips, take care 🚐👍
Thanks eric yes can never be too sure especially after that cold snap , we are out this weekend so hopefully everything will be ok Take care Mike & kirsty 👍😀
Whenever we've had caravans and had to leave for a few weeks/months in the winter we've always moved the seat cushions away from the walls, on their side etc otherwise we found over time the cushions just got damp from the cold walls.
I kinda work behind the Esso on the Industrial Estate! 😁 I presume you leave all your locker doors Toilet door and Fridge, open. To keep all dry and air to circulate! Having an outside Screen cover would stop any Condensation on the inside of the Windscreen, we were 'living' in ours during the very cold snap, NO Condensation at all! 😁
Hi pete yes always leave the lockers and fridge open , the storage yard plots are all on grass and always draw up plenty of moisture from there especially when it gets extremely cold like it did a few weeks back , whenever we are on site or parked on concrete its fine no moisture, i drive past your work twice a day 😁
Hi 👋 Brekkie looked delicious 😋 We don’t use the moisture captures when we leave the van, we got told they bring brings moisture in because it’s not a sealed unit 🤷♀️ Hoping we don’t get too many more cold snaps! Happy new year to you both 😎 Em 💜
Good to see you back ……… Fortunately I can keep my van (when it arrives) on the drive, so when it’s cold or I’m not using the van, I can leave a small oil filled radiator on low to keep things aired a bit. I’m also a bit neurotic about draining the water system down 🤣 Never mind the van, is the chippy bike OK? 🤭 Look forward to watching your trips in 2023 👍
Hi debs thats great you can keep the van on the drive id love that , can keep an eye on it and keep it clean and aired etc , yes the chippy bike is ok , stuck in the garage at the mo awaiting its next chippy run which should be pretty soon 👍😀 , thanks for watching and commenting & have a great week Mike & kirsty
It don’t hurt to check things every now and then , we learnt the hard way years ago and pitched up too late with broken tap and various leaks 😬 always pre checking nowdays , cheers guys have a great week
Hello Mike and Kirsty, good to see you both and happy new year… We’re very lucky to have ours on our drive and plugged in, easy also to keep an eye things… hopefully better days to come soon and the touring and play can begin again 😊 take care and see you soon. Richard & Vicky.
Hi richard & vicky hope you are both well , happy new year , we’d love to have ours parked on a drive close by that would be ideal , keeping it plugged in and keeping the batteries healthy , well we are on the right side of it now so longer lighter days are coming slowly but surely, spring time not that far away 😀 Thanks guys take care
A Happy New Year to you both. Great to see you both well and happy. Look forward to seeing you on your site again soon. All the very best. Regards Vanessa & Colin Wells
Hi colin and vanessa , happy new year , yes hopefully we’ll be back in the swing of things again soon and getting out more regular , we dont like these early dark nights but at least we are on the right side of it now , thanks for watching & commenting Mike & kirsty
Happy New Year to you both - Not used our caravan since our return from Scotland due to other commitments - Checked on it a couple of times in storage since & all OK but need to get it up to our house to give it a wash / polish also check & sterilise water system before getting back out on our next trip at end of January - We did leave toilet cassette at home a few years ago - Glad the site had toilets
Hi andrew & karen yes it’s definitely good to check up on it every now & then , you reminded me i also need to sterilise the system and give the ol girl a wax too , happy new year to you both take care Mike & kirsty
You must leave your taps in the open position with the pump switched off to prevent the taps cracking due to freezing inside of the taps. Expensive taps are £100 also leave all you cupboards doors open for circulation. Great video. Paul and jilly
Scones looked lovely. We have had a drive out in Madge since New Year to see how Max got on. He did very well. We have not tried the heating so I need to do this sometime this week. Take care Gill
Always good to check the van over during the winter months. It’s amazing how quickly winter is moving on. Time to start planning summer trips 😃🚐👍🏻 Trev
Hi trev & sue , yeah has to be done especially as ours is at the yard with grass plots not concrete hence the drawing up of moisture, yes bring on the sunshine & light nights! 😀👍
Hay happy new year both great to see you, so looking forward to getting away in mh this year will be pup's 1st year so really looking forward, hope your dogs are both good, see you soon take care x
Hi chrissey not long now and the nights will be getting lighter slowly but surely at least we are on the right side of it now ,pup will love it ! Our dogs are fine thanks take care mike & kirsty
Hi Guys This year has just run away with Us ( Only 9 days in 😂) BUT still have time to watch the best UA-camrs ❤ Mike totally agree with the drain down on motorhome and caravans in the winter months some top tips from you 👍🏻 Got to say you are right not laying down under the motorhome checking the pipes far to cold , defo one for Kirsty to do ASAP regardless of the weather ( that’s me in the dog house )😖 Good to see you enjoying that white knuckle ride with Kirsty at the wheel , Sorry Kirsty 😘 Let us be the last to wish you guys and all your families the Best for 2023 , Mike get the thinking cap on and get some more interesting shots and angles with the camera for 2023 because you nailed it towards the end of last year with new angles and picture effects 👍🏻😎 Loving the Lovely Jubbly comment (OFH)👏👏 Hope the channel grows this year for you 😎👍🏻👍🏻 Keith + Michelle and Freedom the campervan
Thanks guys yes i know where did that year go ! Going too fast ! Speaking of fast its lucky i got to 2023 with kirsty at the wheel 😂 (save me a seat in that dog house 😂👍) definitely a good idea to make all the essential checks before using the van in the winter especially when it got as cold as it did , i’ve got slated more than a few times for “ showing off “ with the use of multiple cameras and multiple angles ( mainly by other youtubers ) but thats just the way i film , i like to be creative and imaginative & i do believe it can enhance a video in some cases , (snappy editing techniques and multiple angles is a waste of time if your just walking around a caravan site with a couple of dogs ) that was the most recent comment in one of the videos , but its my hobby and i enjoy it i dont need to justify it so i just remove the comments , oh well , some people eh! But glad you appreciate it & will continue to “‘show off even more!” 😂😂😂 , thanks again guys happy new year and have a good week Mike & kirsty
Happy New Year to Kirsty and yourself mate, hope 2023 will be good to you 🙂 We are quite lucky in the fact that we have a big drive with a carport so our van can be easily checked over anytime and also protected from the elements. Them scones looked delicious 🙂
Hi guys i’d love a carport one day that would sort the lot out , all grass plots at the storage yard so always getting moisture in the winter , the scones were lovely 😀👍 happy new year !
Feel your fear re not having the toilet cassette. Around 30 years ago my ex and I had a caravan in storage. Brought it home, packed it and the kids up and set off. First time someone went to use the loo, we realised the cassette had been stolen! Back then, there wasn’t a proper key lock, just a generic plastic thing that everyone had. Glad things are more secure these days.
Hi evelyn that must of been a bit of a shock back then i mean who would steal a toilet ! But it does happen quite often i imagine , funny though i do remember the older freezing cold toilet block set ups , just like watching a carry on camping film !
As you know we’re lucky enough to have ours on the drive and it’s quite sheltered between 2 houses, we have a Bluetooth temperature sensor in it and we’ve had -7 shown, the difference is we’re on tarmac, the parking on grass would bother me mate, and I’d wonder if you can do something with that skylight dripping? Roll on the good weather!
Hi buddy yep being on grass is a bugger , it was the same thing with the last van in the winter but only when it gets really cold , i’d love it to be on a drive especially between houses , Proper protected , the skylights dripping on the inside tho again are just a result of being in a grass field in the fens in - 10 , doesn’t happen when its parked at work 👍 bring on the spring 😀👍
There’s so much to think about when the temperature is freezing but I think it’s a lot more difficult with the van in storage with no power supply. We had a narrowboat stored in a marina but it was on hook up and we had the frost watch heaters as well as the moisture traps so that really helped avoid problems in winter. We’ve just widened our drive so we can accommodate a longer van and we did consider storage before we did it but I think I’m too lazy! Plus friends told us it’s not so easy to get storage at the moment. Anyway our lovely 5.4m Devon Colorado is up for sale and I have the 6.3m Devon Aztec XL at the top of my wish list. If your viewing numbers for that video go up it’s me 😂. Thanks for sharing another interesting video.
Hi sylv yes its a bit of a pain having to keep it stored in a field especially in the winter months , thats great that you have widened the drive for the aztec , i remember it was such comfortable van and the little window behind the drivers seat was a lovely addition , tons of storage too , a great choice , thanks again for watching guys have a good week Mike & kirsty
The cold spell really concerned me as we had only had our new van a couple of weeks and weren’t too confident we were doing this drain down malarchy correctly. Anyhow it’s survived and luckily it lives on the drive! But thank goodness for you both sharing your experiences. The thing that freaks me out most is the temperature gadget that has the humidity display too😱 but I bought the moisture absorbing products and occasionally plug in an electric one. What a learning curve😂😂😂. Thanks for showing us what reality is 🙂
Hi ruth it really is a learning curve and I’m afraid its never a ending one 😂 , all these youtube video’s definitely help though , i’d love to be able to have ours on a drive one day but id probably be more in it than the house 😂👍 Thanks again for watching Mike & kirsty
Hi Mike and Kirsty. Good to see you back after the Christmas break. I trust you had an enjoyable time? I tried to buy some of those moisture traps, but everywhere I looked had sold out. Fortunately, our van doesn't get much moisture in it as it's quite well protected next to the house, and I'm able to check it daily if necessary. Is that a sound bar beneath your TV? If it's not to late to say: Happy New Year!
Hi robert id love to have ours parked at home , i dont like it parked on grass at the yard , especially in the freezing cold when its gets moisture like that , we had a nice Christmas thank you hope you did too , yes thats a soundbar its the first one we’ve ever had and it really does make a difference Thanks again for watching and commenting Mike & kirsty
Hope you both had a good Christmas and New year but I'm a little concerned, did you shake your scones at me 😂🤣🤣, ok moisture in vans, I'm guessing that you locked your van up with the warm air still inside at the end of the vlog, if you did the warm air in the van will draw the moisture from the cold air outside into the van causing condensation and then you'll say how good the water traps are, that's because you drew the moisture in, have you ever wondered why dealers put nothing in their vans ? It's only cold air and it harms nothing that's why dealers vans are not wet in winter only cold, equalise the temperature inside and outside next time you leave it, open the windows when your parking back at the storage so when you leave it the air in the van is as cold as the air outside and you won't needs traps, also lease cupboards etc open, another enjoyable vlog keep them coming 👍.
Hi stephen yes not a bad Christmas and new year thanks hope you all did too , actually i did leave the van when it was warm inside last time i always assumed dealers never put any moisture traps in theirs because their tight 😂 they cost £5 from wilko you know 😂😂 , but yes warm air meeting cold not good and especially being parked on a grass field in cold temperatures at the yard definitely don’t help , no concrete plots unfortunately, it usually happens when it gets below zero , always a learning curve these vans 😂 anyway we are on the right side of it now so bring on the lighter later nights and spring time Thanks again for watching and commenting Mike & kirsty
I would get the skylight checked for leaks. If the van was dry and aired when you left it I can’t understand how you are getting so much condensation on the inside. Our camper is on the drive so easier to check over, and we tend to take it for a run every 3 weeks. Hope you don’t have a leak 😳
Hi Ann this only ever happens at the storage yard , unfortunately the plots are grass not concrete so we do take in a lot of condensation, Im always pressure washing the van and roof so definitely no leaks , its good that you take yours out every so often its a must id say

Ha ha, what are you up to in our local haunt. Arbuckles is a brilliant breakfast.
Loved it there ! What a good menu too we hadn’t been there for a while its about half hour from us but we’ll be back more regular now

Pretty sure that i read that the combi boilers are rated for 2kw on electric and 3.6kw on gas, so gas is nearly twice as powerful

Good idea , we van all year mostly so end up keeping most stuff in there year round which is not really a good idea , especially in those temperatures

I wiped most of it but it was also frozen on the inside !
Cheaper in the Jet garage
