freestylerandmc101 Bingo! Yahtzee! As soon as Houston wanted him that was enough. Knicks didn't match the offer sheet. I did hear rumors that Tyson Chandler said Lin couldn't run an offense and of course Melo is Melo lol.
freestylerandmc101 Oh yeah, Melo is one of my favorite players now and forever but he is not a winner. He's a great 2nd option. He will never be the man.
I was shocked to hear that several UC universities and Stanford rejected his application even though he was from California and was practically a straight-A student. Thank you Harvard for accepting him.
Yup, he won State Player Of The Year honors his last year of HS and none of the Pac-12 programs bothered to look his way (Stanford was his No. 1 choice too, literally right in his own backyard and they didn't even offer him a basketball scholarship). Lin was battling hardwired racist attitudes towards Asian athletes long before stepping foot into the NBA apparently...
This was the best time in NY basketball since the old Ewing Knicks and it still has yet to be matched. Literally two games before this, the Knicks were terrible with zero ball movement but Lin's breakout that game changed things. They were 4-11 before that and after, without Melo and Stat, all of sudden, not just Lin but the entire team had more swag. They were have fun moving the ball and Shump, Lin, Fields, Jeffries, Chandler etc. all looked like best friends because they had suddenly, overnight become a winning team. But of course Jim Dolan the douchebag and really Melo had to ruin this. If Lin had been allowed to stay and had been nurtured in one system for a few years, he'd be as good as he is today, a few years ago. And maybe the Knicks could have had a very different team culture. Instead, today we have D. Rose who to the untrained eye looks better because he holds the balls and scores more but doesn't lead a team and contribute whatever is needed each game to win like Lin.
The Knicks were fun to watch when Lin had command of the ball because he opened up the teams offense, as a good point does. But once Melo or Harden came into the picture, the team stagnated back to one or two man iso plays.
The D’Antoni system was working, the problem is that it wasn’t working for Carmelo and that’s who the Knicks org catered to at the end of the day. Had D’Antoni stayed, I believe he would’ve vouched to sign or match J.Lin’s contract.
man...imagine Porzingas joining the ball movement on this team. mayb not championship team but we'd have more draft picks, cap space, excitement and definitely success...sigh what coulda been
The way the knicks played during this time really feels like modern basketball before it became normalized. Lots of pick and roll, drives to the basket, and kick outs for threes. And Tyson chandler being the prototypical big man for an offense like that too. Defensive presence but a constant lob threat too. No wonder they found so much success
Lin = A true point Guard. Controls the pace can see the floor and score enough to draw attention but can find the open man. NY was a team of finishers with no true point guard to get them the ball.
