Another fantastic teaching video by you Blake. I appreciate how you walk through the tools you’ll be using, explain each step and I especially love that you take time to show the progress and cuts you make... you allow time for us by beginners to see the result from each of your cuts. Thank you so much! Painting video...yes please!
Thank you for the response Lori! I plan to take this santa all the way through painting so that will give everyone the basics they need to do their own ornament. Thanks for the encouragement and for the kind comments!
Thanks for a great video. I loved it for so many reasons. You explained everything so patiently and clearly, the tools and the process the pace was perfect. As a very new beginner I was able to follow along and understand the instructions and the extra time you took to pause and allow the viewers to take it in was the best. Thanks again for a great instructional video.
Hi Blake! Found now your channel. Happy to have found it. Thank you for the tutorial! I also appreciate the editing and music. Waiting for the painting video and other beautiful projects!
Great video Blake! Enjoyed watching you carve your signature Santa. I like the way to preview the tools you will use in advance . Instruction moves at a very good pace. Thanks! (True North Carver)
I’m doing a week of soap carving with my mom (I’m trying to find vids to watch with her for this) and while you’re using a different medium this is such an amazing tutorial, and will be so helpful! I hope to see more from you!
Thank you! I am also the host on the International Association of Wood Carvers channel if you want to look there for more tutorials. Thanks for following along!
I've loved your work for a while. Really glad you have done this video. I was wondering if you could list the exact tools you used here or maybe in the description?
newbie here, really like the explanations and talking along the way. I also appreciate the silent carvers channels but I cannot follow all the way because I m getting bored, I loose my attention.
Very nice. Learning a lot. Any chance of complete body? My daughter hates to see disembodied heads! I usually carve (whittle) with knife only, or perhaps micro gouge to simulate hair. I am learning to appreciate use of additional tools from your tutorials. Thanks, never too late for an old dog to learn new tricks.
Thank you! I will probably do a complete body carve. It may have to be in several videos due to the amount of time it takes. Thanks for tuning in and joining me on this journey!
Outstanding, I love it and will try it. Thanks for sharing this. Just curious as a beginner, what would you sell for at shows? Ok if you don't want to say.
Thanks Bruce! It really depends on the size you go with and the amount of detail that you put into your unique piece. I don't sale many carvings so it would be hard for me to say.
I was so proud of myself (following along) and then….got to the eyes. Oh my word. I just cannot figure them out for the life of me. 😮

Thanks so much! I will go back and see if I can get a tool list together and post it on here. Thanks for your interest and your kind comments!
@@lunsfordcarvings would be nice to see this list in future videos (if you’re planning on posting more).

Could you make a video on carving the female busts? One of the blue eyed girls.
I'll put a female on my list of videos. That's a pretty complex process, but would be a good one to do a demonstration on.
👍
thanks Tom!
Please, do a painting video!
Thanks Anita! I appreciate you following along!
Hey are the dockyard tools the 5 piece U gouge set?
Yes, I use the 5 piece u gouge set from 1/5mm to 5mm. They are probably my favorite tools.
Greetings! What size is the #9 gouge?
I use mostly about a 1/4” #9 for things like eyes and beside of the nose. The one I use is a Denny but any about that size should work.
Do you sell these?
@@2RoyZeringue I do towards the end of the year!
