- LMS 44871 was the motive power for the latest Cumbrian Mountain Express tour from London Euston to Carlisle via Shap Summit and back via the Settle and Carlisle line on a very warm day . We see 44871 approaching the last half mile to Shap Summit on the 1 in 75 climb but oddly 44871 shuts off ( you can actually see the yellow signal reflection on the cab window ) before the summit and then came to a stand about a mile South of Shap Village with Southbound traffic also at a stand for around ten minutes . The return sees 44871 at Crosby Garrett getting a hefty shove .Thanks to Nige as ever for the laughs and transport .
Spot on Steve, probably the best you’d get in those temperatures although a mystery why the shut off but some assistance was expected as well more so on the return , cheers 👍
Very true Nige , it was odd but at least we know what happened now . Nearly caught me out at Crosby G but thankfully I heard the tracks singing 👍
Steve, This Black Five has certainly put the mileage in of late and nicely captured. Regards, John
Cheers John , shame it was really warm as it meant for not much exhaust.
Superb video Steve. Great to see 44871 having a very busy and successful year so far on the mainline. Cheers, Jeff.
Many thanks Jeff , looking like it’s going to be on the Northern Belle this weekend coming.
Excellent video Steve. Nice day for capturing the Black 5 . She sounded great. Kind regards C&A
Thanks C&A, it was a lovely day just a bit hot for a decent exhaust sadly.
Nice selection of shots Steve. Going well at Crosby Garrett 👍
Thanks Simon, nearly caught me out at Crosby G but thankfully I pressed record in time 👍
Nice little film Steve. Nice to see4871 getting a run out, shame the diesel got involved. We're not on drought orders yet? 🤔🤣🤣 Well done 🤓
Thanks Anthony, believe Tangmere has been removed for maintenance so I suspect the five will be busy .
Another lovely video Stephen well done great camera work as usual I am really looking forward to seeing your next video I hope you get a nice video next time also when is your next video going to be on UA-cam bye for now Philip
Glad you enjoyed it Philip 👍
Spot on Stephen for a warm day. Guessing a trespass or light failure further up from Shap caused the standstill.👍
Thanks David, turns out the stop was down to point problems.
Top video, mate, well done.
Glad you enjoyed it Ken 👍
Nice video Steve :)
Cheers Simon 👍
Good shots Steve on this warm day, very odd at Shap Summit shutting off like that
Thanks Austin, turns out the standstill was down to a point problem.
Great video Steve, we were not far away today, Salterwath and Stockber.
Cheers Alistair, thought you would be around 👍
Great video as always Stephen, definitely a bit too warm for it atm. 😜
You got that right Jake , thanks for the kind comment as it’s much appreciated as always 👍
Very nice video
Thanks for the very kind comment 👍
Nice them Steve bit of a stutter at shap but going well at crosby Garrett Nice one 😊
Thanks Graham, yes indeed it was strange the five shut off but it turned out the signal was on yellow due to a point problem near Shap village hence it came to a halt.
I love a headline but let it be realistic " Steam engine assisted up Shap on a hot day"
Thanks for the advice 👍Did think about something similar to what you described although 44871 was doing a good bit of work although the 57 seemed to be over zealous.
Good Shots there Steve on a very warm day. I agree with Austin, I don't why the Driver of the Black Five, shut off on the approach to Shap Summit, and look like the diesel doing all the work on the return run?
Cheers mate , you can actually see the reflection of a yellow signal on the cab window so obviously something was wrong North of the summit.
