Looking at Missoula and Billings to move to In 10 months!
Plan on opening my Roofing Company. More than likely going to have to be Billings first (rent for a year) I grew up in Rapid City and I could potentially bring some crews over from there if I can’t find some solid help to hire! Anyway love the channel!
Missoula is way better then Billings.
I’ve lived in both for 2 years each. In my 2 years in Missoula, we haven’t had a single hail storm. My 2 years in Billings we had at least 4 major storms where multiple friends needed a new roof. While I love them both. I think Billings would be better for your business
Missoula is better
Sounds nice...probably no humidity in summer. Low crime. Might see ya some day! From an east coaster
They should show how living in the winter in Montana is like. You don’t want to retire there if your a senior citizen with arthritis.
Definitely not worse than minnesota lol
Oh god the montana winters are the only reason why I didn't like it in Montana. Felt like I was living in Siberia.
Missoula is like the warmest town in Montana during the winter. Rather mild, and not much snow.
I crave Winter because we don't suffer from Wildfires in the colder weather. Yet. I feel certain Earthlings are going to be eradicated by Climate changes sooner than expected.
Remo Tecate. I lived a few winters in Msla while in college at UM. The smell from the pulp mill in the '70s was a horrible thing. Otherwise, it wasn't bad winters. One almost never saw the sun because of temperature inversions that made living there almost like living in a bowl of oatmeal. Smog must be worse now that there are more people and wood smoke from heating. Maybe there are ordinances and prohibitions on wood heating now, too. I don't know. I have a dear cousin who lives in a HOA controlled suburb. She has her complaints about MT at her age, but she can't move to somewhere better, mainly because there is nowhere else better. Msla is beautiful in spring, summer and autumn -- not so much in winter due to air quality. Temps are typical all over anywhwre in MT. I live near Bozeman now and it is getting near intolerable with growth and traffic.
Thank you for the small tour around Missoula. I was born and raised there and moved away in 92 when I joined the Air Force. It was a fantastic place to grow up as a kid in the 70's and 80's. We could ride our bikes from the south hills all the way to Greenough park on the north side and not have a care in the world at that time. Over the years coming back to visit family and friends I have seen the city explode in population and traffic growth at what seems like hundreds of proportions. My childhood home is still on the street I grew up on, but the neighbors homes have all been raised and new apartment buildings put in their place. The once small town feel of Missoula is gone, it has definitely taken on the big city vibe just like Bozeman. Even though my life and career have moved me to a different State, I'll always be a Montanan. The goal is to retire back in the state someday, I just hope we can afford it.
Moved to Missoula 12 yrs ago from WI and I'm still loving it out here.Cant buy property/home unless you're a multimillionaire but otherwise it's not bad
Are there lots of apts around the city? Do you live in one?
Actually that’s not true bc im not a multi millionaire but got a 20 acre house for under 800k it’s not that hard
I’m from Wisconsin thinking about moving to Montana. Heard it’s expensive but I wouldn’t mind renting a place. Just nervous
@B L Government. 😊 We definitely have a criminal in charge as our Governor. You remember?
Montana is a great place! I was stationed at Great Falls in 1977. Loved it there. I live in Grandy North Carolina now.
I've lived in Missoula off and on now since the mid 80s, with continuous stretches of residency as long as 10-years, and quite honestly, it's no better or worse than any other place in the intermountain west, but there are a number of things people should know. The sun RARELY shines here, VERY rarely, and winters, are far-far longer than most people are will to recognize or admit. True summer, can only be found here in July and August. That's it! September brings fall, and winter typically lasts from October through May, bounded on both sides by rain and perpetually grey skies. The availability of both housing and jobs is atrocious, and the median priced home is WAY beyond the reach of most wage-earners or even many salaried professionals. Politically speaking, it's a college town, with 85-90% of the communities revenue stream coming directly or indirectly from student loan money, period! So it is populated largely by young, liberal, woke, indoctrinated, unsophisticated, shallow-minded, y- and z-gener neo-Marxists.
Thank you for this honest and insightful reply.
Montana is a nice place to visit but living here is not so nice and it has nothing to do with the weather
Why is that?
How so? I’ve lived there and would like to know your opinion
I'm curious as to what makes living there not so nice too, I wanna hear all sides about the state so I can know if moving there would work for me.
could be because it so over priced.
Being from the UK I would love to live there it reminds me of the mountain views from Scotland
That style of pricing will not take off around the country. You guys are special. You’re sacrificing some profit for the good of the community. The rest of the country wouldn’t do this (major city and surrounding areas, where I’m from). They’ll pluck you for every last dime in your pocket. Everything around here is no contingency with escalation clauses attached.
Thanks for your awesome videos 👍🏻
Leave it to Missoula to come up with an equitable way to sell homes. Not like here in Bozeman where houses start at half a million dollars, and rich Californians are lining up to purchase them.
Like anywhere else in MT, life in Missoula is about the great outdoors. It's not a big city by any stretch of the imagination. If your expecting "city life" you will be disappointed and bored.
Had a great trip to Missoula in 2012 coming from Calgary Alberta. Love the city and the “Griz!”. Take care everyone and hope to see you all real soon!
I live in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. I always enjoyed visiting missoula. I like it’s size as a city in particular. Not too big that it’s a maze to navigate through, and still has most big city retail options.
Wow I loved learning about the home strategy that they are doing in Missoula to provide affordable homes for people. My partner and I moved across the country to Colorado now in Oregon, and it has been a major let down. We are hoping to move to a place that is more wholesome and safe and welcoming 😣 it’s been quite challenging finding a place to call home but we feel close. His one coworker lives in Missoula and she enjoys it with her husband. We love the outdoors and all kinds of sports and small friendly town folk and quiet peaceful slow living❤️✨ so I hope this place works for us because Oregon is just not at all what we thought... it really is going downhill unfortunately... due to politics and the types of people moving here, and we just can’t take that.
I love Oregon, but was destined to become montanadiana in July, 2002. It's too beautiful where I live out in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area. It's sometimes so quiet, I scream to remind myself of Chicago. (Joking, I still love Chicago, and, Indiana, too.)
My wishes are so simple. A rabbit farm in Montana. And a recreational vehicle. And to leave NYC.
I’m here and love it! Fuck the nonsense with the mask,.. but it’s still better then WA!
Grew up in Missoula, I love the outdoors, but the people them selves are a certain taste I don’t like in my mouth. I moved away to Idaho back in 2003 been in Idaho since. Lots of things to do that you can’t do like you need to wear a mask in Missoula in Idaho you don’t and never have. Lots of more fishing and hunting traveling to Spokane is just 1 hr away! Idaho does have sales tax unlike Montana but Montana property is so expensive because they have no sales tax. Just love Idaho I absolutely hate Missoula Montana.
the problem lies in a city administration that wants to turn Zootown in San Fran -light.
I’m a conservative who LOVES living in liberal Missoula. ☮️
Native conservative Idahoian thinking about fleeing to that area of Montana. Not happy with what the Californians have done to our area of Idaho.
From a small river town called hastings in Minnesota. Now living in Missoula love the mountains idk if I could leave lol
Good to know! I’m living in Minneapolis (born and raised here) and I am planning to move to Montana
Skip Missoula, it's a miserable place - the Bitterroot Valley is the best place in the state!
Bitterrooters are generally conservative, Zootowners are predominately liberal and imitating California.
everyone just relax! the market will cool very soon. no point of buying something thats way to much. soon people will lose them and then we can swoop in and buy.
How soon is ‘soon’? It’s been a year.
Moving there in about two weeks. Very excited. One of the things I noticed in the times I've visited is how friendly everyone is! I'm looking forward to living in such a great community.
i live here, its great
How is it
I moved to Missoula this past year and I love the place, but I'm paying $1500 + for a one bedroom and they're going to raise my rent by over $200 next year so I have to leave, unfortunately. It's really sad because I finally thought I had found a place where I was comfortable living. This is what happens when you have 'progressive green' policies that restrict growth and overly inflate the housing market of a place--you end up screwing everyone who lives there. Just look at the difference with Billings--you can rent a 3-bedroom house for about $1300 or $1400 a month or a 1-bedroom for $600-700, and the population of Billings is exploding more than Missoula's. Ann Arbor, Michigan has the same kinds of green growth policies as Missoula and now a normal person simply cannot afford to live there. No amount of subsidized housing initiatives can save a city once it destroys its own housing market. Yet they respond by saying that the people who wanted to move there were the entire problem. Or you could just encourage more housing to be developed? There is no shortage of space south of the city. But hey, at least there are colored bike lanes...
My brother works in the ole's that appears at the 2 minute mark
Grew up 90 miles from Missoula, looking to move back home. I love Missoula...
Wife is from Missoula and for 15 years we have been visiting family. Love the area and town. Recently got offered a job up there so here soon we will be Big sky country bound. Only thing that does concern me is the housing market.
Oh I'll bet that name in the hat stuff has those rich Kali - I Forneean's panties in a wad! As always, great video! I was hoping to see my ol' pal walking around somewhere, but he's Old School Montanan, and just a bit shy..... Thanks and Blessings!
Not every Californian is rich.... or maybe I missed the boat??
Thank you very much for no music.
I love how straightforward this guy is. Missoula looks fairly pleasant 👍🏻
It is!
I want to buy in the st regis area. What can I do to compete with these people buying site unscene houses for way more than they're worth?
Start saving your money that one of the few problems we have here the housing market is overly expensive. Just look at some housing prices in Bozeman
We’re visiting now… Dig the vibes here✌️
My favorite city in Montana, I love it so much 👍 Best regards from Germany 🙏
Boring town, lived here for 2 years now, drinking and football is it pretty much
Well there are trails, public parks there’s the fairgrounds, there is a dirt track just outside of town. There is a bowling alley An Indoor and outdoor Swimming pool. Basketball, and baseball. There isn’t much but a lot more than you listed
yeah thats about right gotta get into the woods once and a while helps with the slow paced life
I’m an electrician and I would love to live there
Any affordable housing there for working people. $175 to 300K? Tiny houses maybe? Seems the young and working set is priced out everywhere. Here in Oregon it's ridiculous. Vacationing this summer in whitefish, kila and Glacier
If you are moving to Montana to get out of big cities, Missoula is not for you. We have been there last July, the court house was boarded up due to protests, lots of homeless in downtown. Out of all the towns we have been to in Montana, Missoula was our least favorite. We came from a big city area and Missoula was not fun. But if you enjoy college vibe and don't mind the weed smoking crowds and everything that comes with college towns then it's a place for you. The nature is pretty and nice restaurants in that area. Let's just say it's a very vibrant town and for some it might be a bit too vibrant. I wouldn't raise my kids there, despite all the amenities available.
I would give this town a 3 out of 5 for the amenities and beautiful views.
Less and less appealing as time goes on to be honest. Been here a long time and I'd rather move down to victor or hamilton which is what missoula looked like a couple decades ago I'd say although quite a bit smaller.
@@bobbell8185 problem is you can't pay your bills with those views.
@@sdafasdfsagasfesa298 I read that Hamilton is the fastest growing town in Montana right now.
How dare you cover Missoula and not cover Big Sky Bewing Company!😅
This June will be my 6th trip in past 5 years to Missoula, and love it!
This time around i will fish for the 1st time.
Gotta promote Moose Drool beer! Best brown ale made, and i always check a 2nd bag so i can bring back bottles of Moose Drool since i cant get it here in the east.
I like these video tours. They're nice and interesting. Please do more.
Glad you like them!
This is really helpful, was just in missoula and considering either billings or missoula
This place sounds great I'm actually moving up their tomorrow and I have a friend who is letting me stay with them for a good 6 months to a year to get up on my feet again.
east missoula around the university is like being in san francisco, with the homeless overrunning the sudewalks and parks.
Born and raised. (Not directly in Missoula, a few miles out)
Looking at working on the ambulance there. Looks like a pretty little town!
Living in MSO right now!
Turned off there and headed to Hamilton then to salmon, great drive.
I've flown into Missoula 9 times from Pennsylvania and drove 150 miles south to Salmon to hunt elk. I enjoy that area more than Yellowstone Park. After 2 weeks in Salmon and heading back to the airport up thru the Bitterroot Valley I always say ... why am I going back to Pennsylvania ?
I just hope I get to visit your wonderful state one day. You have so many beautiful places, including Missoula. Greetings from Alberta. Cheers!
What mountain is that? What city is closest to this mountain range? Great videos my family and I are getting ready to move to Montana early next year.
Mount Sentinel is where the ‘M’ is located, north are the Mission mountains. Going south on 93 you’ve got the Sapphires in the east and the Bitterroots on the west. You may have some trouble if you claustrophobic 🏔🗻⛰
what is that mountain called with the split in it
Mtn on the right is mount sentinel and the one on the left is mount jumbo.
The cut in between is called the hellgate canyon.
Born and raised here myself, great place I love it. Construction does take a long time to finish anything though lol.
Road construction is usually quick but most structural does take time. Bridges have to be scrutinized to pass many safety regulations, I’ve done that work before
Love Missoula !
I’ve been in this city!.!.
Liked it you guys. I grew up in Lolo, up hi way 12. Went to woodman school and Bigsky high school. Went to college at the University of Montana. Lived in Missoula area all my Life. This video brought back good memories for me. I was in the dumps about wanting to leave here. I’ve been here so long that I was thinking about a change. Now I know that my heart is always here. Thank you. I have left to check out other places and found out that Missoula is the best place I’ve ever been and glad I’m here, not somewhere else. Bless you.
Missoula is a nice city
Hello 👋
Reserve street traffic is crazy!
Mountains covered with snow guy walking around in shorts. You always know people are from the great north when they do that.A guy I knew was from UP Mi he was walking around in shorts in 35 degrees F in the Ky.
Amazing scenery, i have a friend who lives about an hour away from Missoula who sends me photos of the mountains and occasional wildlife.
I'd visit to do a lot of star gazing under that huge sky as well.
Thank you, from the UK.
P.S...$300,000 for a house....yikes!
I hope it's bear proof for that lol. 😆😆😆😋😋😋
A lot of people believe Missoula is about a half-hour from Montana. 😄
great down-to-earth review.
Heavily considering moving here from Alaska with my wife and 2 kids.
I would like to see a Great Falls Montana
nothing special i live there, missoula is amazing and 10x better, thats why we are moving there
@@epiphanystumbaugh4331 that's why I want to move to Great falls from Bozeman. Because no one wants to move to Great falls. 😆
Great video exploring the city. Thank you! What time of year was this filmed?
I love it here! I have lived here for a few years and grew up an hour away. Missoula is very special
I was born and raised in Hamilton Montana and I’d never live anywhere but here.
grew up in Illinois, moved to east of Missoula in 2007, finally retired and now in Victor, avoid most all contact with the Zoo now. can't stand the Fubar traffic patterns of Zootown.
Born and raised in Lolo, I wouldn’t either
Thank you for the video. That is a great program they are doing for people instead of catering to investors. Love it. My wife and I, and our daughter's family are looking into moving towards Missoula but we would prefer to buy a place with some land. Maybe within 30-45 minutes of Missoula. We would love to come into town on Saturdays to shop and catch a game. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
☑️
Go Griz......!!!
How far is from mile city
6 hours
Your city is beautiful! Greeting from Brazil!
I live in stevensville :)
My wife and I are going to retire in a few years. Leaving the Seattle area and have Family in Fortine. Hope to find something between Missoula and Libby
Lovely scenery there!
Missoula is so pretty. It’s smaller than the Central California town I live in, so interesting that it’s considered a larger town. Lord willing, we will be Montana residents in a few years. 🥰 My uncle lives about 40 minutes outside of Missoula. I’d really love to be near him.
If u move to Montana, definitely look at Missoula. It's great
have a job and housing lined up before moving. well paying jobs are scarce and housing is ridiculous. college town means rentals are scarce
Moved here last summer, love it, but I wish we would have gone to the Bitterroot
Go get a burger at Flippers Bar!!
Lewistown is a great place as well!
No it ain't
If you like living just about on top of a nuclear silo
Zoo-town, keep Missoula weird. Rocking’ Rudy’s and the Shack Cafe👍👍❤️❤️
Been there once in town. College town, with lots of micro breweries, etc. Not really big as he said, but big enough.
It’s big by Montana Standards is what I think he meant yah a lot of people who live here love Montana the way it is and don’t want to see it change
It’s the 2nd largest city in Montana lol
I want live there but i cant drive
