@Rick H It takes about an hour from the bus terminal in Cancun to the bus terminal in Playa del Carmen. You have to go to the bus terminal in Cancun. Take the ADO bus. They are air conditioned and very comfortable. But be on time. They are very punctual. Don't waste your money taking a taxi unless it is with a group of people. It is a straight highway drive. From there, you can get a bus from Playa to see the ruins at Tulum or you can take a ferry to Cozumel. You can do those 2 trips on another day. But you can enjoy Playa on one day. Edit. I just saw that you are renting a car. I don't know about parking. But besides the main street, it is a nice place to walk around. The ferry leaves from the docks. I don't know if they take cars on the ferry, it is more like a very large water taxi not those like a ship that take buses and cars like going to France from England or Vancouver to Victoria. You will have to check re the car because I took the bus whenever I went to Playa. So I can't really give you the correct information.
I love 38 street! My favorite place in all of Playa to walk on the beach! I remember when there was only 1 building on it, and a big wide beach ! Thanks for the memories ! ✌️

I spent most of last year in Cancun and can say they're very relaxed about you walking down the street as a tourist without a mask. Going into any establishment you're suppoaed to put on a mask. I heard that other cities, maybe less touristic, expect you to wear a mask on the street. But many don't obey. Remember: they want your gringo cash. The police won't harass you.

BUt I would never go into a place without one on..im not crazy. lol Im not a no masker by any means..but I think walking outside when your alone with a maks on is stupid and rediculous.... Im glad Gov Cuomo is about to get ousted I dont know if you have heard one of his assistants just rated him out for lying about covid deaths. Hes in hot doodoo. Sweet justice for us!

Longing to visit again after the pandemic. I hope after I take my vaccines (still holding out until June), by fall I can get on a plane again. Very few tourists this year. Let's hope we can all head down South next winter.

Ive been to playa 16 times in the last 8 years never ever had a any issues with safety. I always stay in a boutique hotel 100 ft off 5th avenue , love the place , the weather the people the beach. People i met down there locals always have helped me stay out of trouble if it after 2 am LOL . An awesome destination playa is startled going in 1989 then didn’t go back till 2012 approx. its got a lot to offer for kids too in the area

It is sad and we do have rules but the foreigners come here to escape their own countries who do enforce them. They know Mexicans are desperate and will leave them alone just to get something sold or to get a bribe, but many of us wear the mask everywhere
Yes move to spain or france where you can live in your mask 24/7 and never breathe fresh air. If you’re scared wear 5 masks. Dictatorship is when you tell others how to live. If you don’t want any form of freedom I recommend spain and france where you can feel happy in your mask even when hiking and cycling and driving alone.

The last I saw was the ultramar ferry is running every 2 hours. Check their web site.
