  • I have installed many deck belts on the mower and have some in my garage in case I need one. They stretch out, become loose and burn up some until they come off the pulleys.

I watched 2 different "how to install the deck belt on a lt4200 mower deck".
This one was the one that saved the day. It showed me exactly what the other one didn't and for me hit a home run!!
Great job!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I may have to do these belts on my mower again.

I loosened all the pulleys that had belt keepers on them instead of taking the pulleys clear off. Also installing the deck is about just the opposite of removing the deck. After I had gotten the belt on and installed I didn't put two guards that are on the left and right out most pulleys, the belt came off so I put the two guards all back on. They keeps the belt on when it is slack.

There are many riding mowers that are like mine since MTD makes several models for different companies. Most mowers use slipper belts because transmissions are expensive, even John Deeres.

Would you happen to know how to make certain the lawn mower belt is tightened so the belt doesn’t keep coming off?

The belt is self-tightening. Check the info in reply to Amanda Buckland. Check the pulleys to see if they are turning freely. They might need replaced; I have replaced all mine. You have to get the belt under the belt keepers- small metal tabs that keep the belt on the pulleys. There is a large keeper at the back of the deck. The belt has to be in front of that.

It's very hard to tell what's going on with the belt. You might have to take it to a lawn mower repair shop who can see what's wrong and fix it.

What size belt does it use? And I have the same mower and mower deck. But mine has an additional spring that I didn't see on yours?

Yes, the belt number is on the underside of the hood. It's a small 2" sticker. 954-04060B 1/2"x96". I found 3 belts on Amazon. Google this "deck belt 954-04060b".

I have to do this probably sometime today if the weather is good here in the Ohio Valley I have an older husky it is a 3800. 38 inch deck I believe my spindle bearings are gone the deck shakes violently and the belt jumps off I’ve got to replace the belt remove the deck and I bought bearings on eBay that supposedly fit the spindle housings probably replace the blades as well,,,, if that doesn’t fix it then it’s probably going to be for sale or giveaway I don’t know,,,,lol,,,, thanks for a great video this should help greatly👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you William, I live in Ohio too. I have replaced some bearings in the pulleys and at least one spindle bearing, also I replaced one or more pulleys. It's been a good mower.

    Year and part number ????

The part number is on a sticker under the hood. 954-04060B has been superseded by 954-04060C. It may say 754, which is OK. It's about a 2009-2012.
