My boys are not allowed to ride without them. My reasoning is they are children. They are more susceptible to head and neck injuries they younger than they are. I have seen the arguments of "neck braces" neck braces break collarbones" and other such is such arguments But I would rather my child's collarbone be broken than his neck
I thank my life to neckbrace, hit small rock in main straight going about 60mph of so. Come straight on my back hitting my head. The carbon fibre of the brace just broke in half, that would have been my neck.
I'm 6'2" and I've personally never had any interference issues with my atlas brace. I've actually thought about getting something a little more limiting honestly. It worries me that I can move my head and neck in all directions without making contact with the brace.
I choose to be safer.. I wear neck brace 👌😃 For me it's better to have some limitations in movement during a bike ride, so that i can move freely without any limitations AFTER the ride doing my daily life routines (off the bike) and not the other way round 🤭🤣
This whole conversation is stupid. Do football shoulder pads prevent all injuries? What about helmets? No they don’t. But they protect from certain/specific injuries. Same with Leatt style neck braces. They protect from specific types of injuries. Namely the ones where you head snaps one direction and can crank on your neck. That’s it. People need to be smarter.
I was in one pretty hi speed accident top of 4th on my cr250. Washed out flew down a hill and landed on my neck twice while tumbling. Walked away from it sore. My shoulder was bruised ( i dont bruise easily at all ) and im pretty confident if i didnt have the brace i could have broke or injured my neck. For pros where its there job and not having it could make you faster. I understand. But i think amatuers should wear them
Honestly helmet are a must because the law said that. If the law will say all equipment is a must, you'll be buying all. But is optional to lose a knee or a leg. Some think if i got helmet im invincible... Not really, better to have more protection than just regret it after or spend money, time and health (also mental health) through recovery or if is not the case end your life.
I don’t wear a helmet snow skiing, never have, never will. I am almost the only person at the ski resorts that doesn’t. Now will I take my grandkids skiing without one? Absolutely not. There’s nothing wrong with being safe. But i agree with you, it shouldn’t be mandatory.
@@jameshuntsman6046 Also depends on everyone's luck. But i am not so lucky in life and i prefer to stay as safe as possible. Also wish you long life if you have an accident, hope you won't lose even a nail. 🤝🏻
I’ve came back to the comments now that I’ve been wearing a neck brace for a season (haven’t raced just hit the track). I don’t feel it except for the odd time my helmet got stuck on the back of the neck brace (when I first got it). I think it helped me not get whip lash not 100% sure but I know my head wasn’t everywhere on some decent crashes so because of that I prefer riding with one
What I’ve heard most is that the brace puts more pressure on the top part of your neck, and can sometime lead to you breaking your neck if you hit the ground in the wrong position. The pressure the ground puts on you as you hit, combined with the pressure the brace was already applying could cause your neck to go ahead and break. Plus I’ve heard of it popping out a collar bone or two for people before. Like they all said, it’s personal preferences. Nobody debates chest protectors like this, some people wear them, some don’t. If you don’t like it, don’t wear it. I don’t get why Ryno gets so up in arms about it, just let people try it, and decide for themselves😂
I took mine off because I felt limited to what I could do on the motorcycle, not being able to ride with my hips out all the way without bending at the knees and this is something that I learned from Ryan Hughes. Just makes life easier without one and I believe you're less likely to get hurt without one because your technique is gonna get better so you're gonna be safer. I mean look at Marvin, he took his off and now he's way better.
I had a friend who lost his best friend in a t bone car collision, he was wearing a seat belt and got hit so hard the seat belt itself killed him on impact. It snapped his neck and ripped his torso out of the car. Safety can ironically be dangerous sometimes. Literally everything in life is a gamble. There are vids of news reporters live (at the time) on location talking into the mic and they just drop dead in the blink of an eye in mid sentence. Live life and celebrate every second while you still can, some people ride that wave by embracing and accepting danger
Yet another video on the subject, once again, missing the most important point. Can a brace protect you in certain, unlikely situations? Sure. The problem most people don’t seem to recognize or address, other than Ryan Hughes, is that wearing the neck braces makes it impossible for most people to ride in a most ergonomic and therefore, safer way. Are you going to be safer wearing a neck brace in a particular type of crash? Maybe. Does the brace make you more likely to crash by not allowing you to ride with proper technique? Absolutely. Ride with one if you want to, no one should be able to tell you what to do, but if you really want to use your body so that you can ride your best (and safest) a neck brace will most likely make it impossible.
Maybe we shouldn't ask racers. They accept risk as an everyday reality and prefer to have full range of motion when riding. Maybe we should interview paramedics and first responders.
*Do you wear a Motocross Neck Brace? Why or why not?*
I don’t because I’m with aj on it I feel more comfortable without one but I do wear a cheat plate and knee braces
@@brevinperez7874 Yea definitely agree that it's all about comfort and what allows you be in the most strong/efficient riding positions

I’ve worn both atlas and leatt braces and hated both. I also hate breaking my collarbone.
Yes they are really secure and keep my neck really well protected
Definitely wear one, wish I would have. If I had one the day of my accident, I probably wouldn’t have broken my neck and now in a wheelchair.
Sad to hear man

I typically have the opposite problem. I will say that the ATLAS brace is much more roomy than the others.
I’m 6’2” and when I wore atlas brace it interfered so bad when Id try to look up?

Do these prevent collarbone injuries as well??
I wear one, fits well, no issues with it clashing but I'm 6 4 "so maybe that's a help

Same. I only notice it every once in a while.
Clearly better designs, more research and studies are needed. Custom braces that work with the helmet as a single system would be ideal.

Accident that hard would’ve killed anyone regardless. Terrible example
More of just an example of something that happened, my point is safety is never really guaranteed.
How many people were saved from a seat belt is the real question, and the same for the Neck Brace
