The instruments they're using here are not laptops or synths, but a mix of various electronic instruments compiled into one custom-made package: various types of synthesisers, sequencers, custom-made miniature keyboard, effects processors, samplers and laptops. This live vid was taken from their "Minimum Maximum" DVD (I'd recommend "Radioaktivitaet" or "Die Mensch Maschine" from it btw). If you'll continue reacting to songs from that release you'll see some better shots at what they're doing (for that you may want to check out the song titled "Autobahn"). I've never seen any reactions before to Kraftwerk btw (I don't really like reaction vids in general tbh), but it was a nice experience to check this one out. I'd wish only for more commentary about the song, but that would fall into reaction/review category I suppose? Anyway, it was nice seeing that people are still enjoying Kraftwerk (which is my 2nd fav band btw). Cheers!
In fact they play live. They generally manipulate sounds and effects. If you compare this song with other concerts of the same tour in other countries, you will see that it never sounds the same and that they improvise both sounds and effects continuously. As for the languages of numbers, I think they are English, French, Russian, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and German.
Both songs are from the 1981 album Computer World. They had another really great song on that album (Computer Love) that was about online dating (in 1981!)
The statement in this song was so far ahead of it's time, and frighteningly relevant in this day and age. It blows my mind that way back in 1981, Kraftwerk knew that 20-30 years in the future the civilised world would be run entirely through computers.... and that large, powerful organisations could find ways to exploit that.
Hey Travis! You meant the Texas Instruments "Speak N' Spell", they sampled & modified the toy for the original song on The Computer World LP from 1981. They even ended up working with Texas Instruments for sounds on their "Pocket Calculator" single from the same album. Just love your reactions to this.
Speak and Spell - and yes, the voice comes from it's brother "math ... something". I believe it was from Texas Instruments. The Laptops: They switched to mostly virtual synths some years ago - before that they went on tour with their complete studio. Back then their stage looked a LOT like the bridge of the Enterprise. But in the end that became too much trouble for them when technology had advanced far enough to be able to put a complete studio into one computer... Languages in Numbers... German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Russian. The original of Numbers/Computerworld was released in 1981 - and the "Numbers beat" from Karl Bartos was Combined with the Melody from "Trans Europe Express" from 1977 by Afrika Bambaata and became one of the first Hiphop hits. :) Music History. :)
Ralf Hütter on the far left does keyboards, sound manipulation and vocals. Next to Ralf is . Henning Schmitz. Henning also does keyboards and sound manipulation. Fritz Hilpert does live effects and sound manipulation. Falk Grieffenhagen is responsible for all videos on the screens. Falk can manipulate video live on the fly live. Kraftwerk does have a lot of music pre sequenced on laptops or tablets. Kraftwerk does do parts live. The three on the left can manipulate and change the sequences live. Ralf and Fritz use midi controller keyboards for live playing and manipulation
You can find Kraftwerk videos where things go wrong on stage proving they are playing live! There is also one where they link up with the astronaut Alexander Geist on the ISS who performs with them live on the track ‘Spacelab’
OH Nice!!! Legends The pioneers of what Techno and The Synth sounds in the 80s. I have produce and released 70 tracks of techno and they were one of my inspirations. I grew up with them in the mid 80s. Tour De France is legendary
The true pioneers of electronica, these guys started out in the 60's when electronic instruments barely existed so they invented and built their own. They've had a huge influence on modern electronic music. :)
You are thinking of the Speak-n-Spell. It has been used in so many songs throughout the years, it's unreal. But it always add an interesting character to any song.
Kraftwerk... One of the great electronic music groups of all time together with Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis. A pity that they are so lazy and have not released a new album for so many years.
I have been lucky enough to see 5 live performances by Kraftwerk. At one of the venues they played the manager stated afterwards they were ordered to remove all the lighting and sound equipment and wirings as Kraftwerk would only play if they could install all their own equipment.
The mind blowing thing is that this album came out in 1981, and like another song on this album, _"Computer Love,"_ they were decades ahead of their time, predicting that computers would control so much of our world. The other song I mentioned deals with online dating -- nearly 30 years before online dating was a thing.
They don't pretend to make the music live. Almost everything is prerecorded (as MIDI probably and not as a sound file) and they can adjust some parameters. Some parts/melodies are played live completely. If they don't move they aren't doing anything.
I've seen kraftwerk in Columbus ohio and they hit it out of the park what a great performance from the godfathers of electronic music kraftwerk is the best experience live amazing
You should react to some of their live performances on the channel "Willy Billiams". Specifically the ones at Amsterdam as he got a really cool angle from above them, so you can actually see what they're doing. Quite fascinating to me.
@@Mrowiec Thanks - I heard i as the first number - I tried hard to hear if it really was i, but seems the machine voice tricked me :). If I had heard ichi, I would've known it's not Chinese, maybe would've guessed Japanese. And there's long time when I heard the numbers in each of these languages, Chinese the latter.
wolf hunterz you should do kraftwerk's musique non stop live and tell me what you think of it it from the mimimum maximum live concert, this track rocks!!!!!!!!
Ein, zweie, drie, fur, fumf, sex, sieben, acht. Itch, ni, san, shi. Uno, due, tres, quatro. One, two. This like all their shows was prepackaged. All in the sequencers. I still loved them live even if they did nothing.
You should take the band seriously and do not make ridiculous. The music, videos, devices, everything has perfected power plant in over 50 years. Who makes electronic music yourself how hard to implement is and especially live.
Please, stop smiling and dancing with your heads. That looks stupid. This is serious music, from serious band.... This is like you listening Mozart and jumping around the room... Listen to the music and try to understand it. Listen the original, not this modernised concert versions....
The pioneers of techno and electropop. Kraftwerk inspired and influenced generations of bands and musicians.
I include Tangerine Dream in that, and I think they were around earlier.
But I like both groups TD even more.

I've seen them live and they can jam on those machines. So the music is "performed" live.
Ralf does use an analog synth, but nowdays even a 100 euro phone can simulate any synth that ever existed.
Nothing was cooler back in the day dark dank underground clubs playing Kraftwerk and deep German techno..maybe some KMFDM. Lord I miss those days.
the album Computerworld was released in 1981,.... imagine the bold statements made back then
The influence of Kraftwerk can be seen in a wide spectrum of musicians, from David Bowie to bands like Rammstein.

First there was Kraftwerk - then I was completely into electronic music after hearing them in the late 70s. This Is Genius!

If you consider the tune is from 81 - when Homecomputers were JUST beginning to come out, when there was no Internet - this was almost prophetic. :D
*Speak & Spell
@@mileythighless5094 no. The "brother" of the Speak and Spell wasn't "Speak and Spell".
It was a device doing math with a different name.

They were the founders of progressive hip hop. Everybody sampled them!
You are thinking of the Speak-n-Spell. It has been used in so many songs throughout the years, it's unreal. But it always add an interesting character to any song.
Songs were longer back then in the 80's but we stayed on the dance floor for the entire song. Those were the good old days!
Kraftwerk... One of the great electronic music groups of all time together with Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis. A pity that they are so lazy and have not released a new album for so many years.
I was 11 when this song came out and I remember hearing it on the radio and I was like oh my gosh this is awesome!! I love the 80s synth!
I have been lucky enough to see 5 live performances by Kraftwerk. At one of the venues they played the manager stated afterwards they were ordered to remove all the lighting and sound equipment and wirings as Kraftwerk would only play if they could install all their own equipment.
You should check out their contemporaries, another German group called Tangerine Dream... perhaps start with some of their remix albums.

Innovators influence many Rap artists Rnb and pop artists German geniuses A Masterpiece of sounds .This song is a 80's hit before its time .

This also became a hip hop classic.
I am reminded of the stock market. This could be the official "anthem". :)
I've seen kraftwerk in Columbus ohio and they hit it out of the park what a great performance from the godfathers of electronic music kraftwerk is the best experience live amazing
This track has been sample to death...
These guys were playing this live before you were you were born!! Please show some respect 🙏
Numbers is my favorite ❤️

Minimalist song, no letters, melodic numbers....very nice.
they play the instruments in real time
they are legends
Pioneers of techno-rock.
Those laptops were custom made by Sony Vaio at the time, at request of kraftwerk.
german electronic at its best !
Please react to a live version of "Radioactivity", it's gonna blow your mind.
That device is called a "Speak and Spell"
Techno pioneers way ahead of their time.. frequency perfection.
If you only take one thing from this track, it's how to count to eight in German!
try Aphex Twin "come to daddy" or widowlicker" videos, nice creations :-) !!!!
Also "Ventolin".
This was a Jam when I was a kid in Brooklyn
Genius!
I had this on 45 when it came out in 1977...lol
1981...

and Speak & Spell is what you are thinking of.
Such a hashtag song, the Computerworlf :)
Suzie's eyes make her eerily believable as a robot. 🤣🤣
you need to look at 70s kraftwerk they created the electric drum these are the grandfathers of this music infact 30 years before
look at 70s videos of them
this one has the kid who took over from the guy who died
They don't tune their instruments. They clear the temp folder and reboot the server.

The version in The Mix is even better.

Nice to see a Couple like yours!! For me to say....when my Wife sitting so nearby..no.
Languages I recognized: German, English, Italian, Chinese, Russian, French, Spanish - so I got 7. Did I miss any?
It was Japanese (ichi, ni, san, shi), not Chinese (yi, er, san, si).

Suggestion for another German band: Xmal Deutschland playing "Incubus Succubus" or "Incubus Succubus II"
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ex Kraftwerk member Karl Bartos make very similar music
Kraftwerk - their batteries have already run a few decades
Remember! Its from 1981

Do you remember the lyrics?

Kraftwerk/radioactivity
Don't act so idiotic! Respect them. They made everything possible for you! Without them there wouldn't be a place for you.

Mr Anderson, do you like what I did to the place?
they got the idea of the images from the U2 Zoo TV tour from what ive researched

Unfortunately all of the band members had a terrible German accent when speaking Englisch. Anyways, Kraftwerk waren ihrer Zeit weit voraus!
Interpol Deutsche Bank, FBI and Scotland Yard... CIA KGB ...control data Memory... Comunication, people, Medicine , 😬🤐🤫. KRAFTWERK 1981. Tutto chiaro.
I believe this took over the black community for a time. It's total minimalism, pop and dance 101. And it works.
Also quite common in black dance clubs was "Trans Europa Express". Another song which was often played there was "Bostich" from Yello.
Speak and spell
fake, simply fake
