ℹ 📷 The photos illustrating the performance are the work of Scala's in-house photographer, Erio Piccagliani. Apart from the 1956 production, to which the audio recording belongs, I used photos from 1957 (when Frazzoni and Gobbi was joined by Mario Del Monaco as Johnson, and there were some changes to the supporting cast as well) and 1964 (when Corelli was Frazzoni's partner again, but Rance was played by Gian Giacomo Guelfi and the supporting cast was almost completely different). So in a few scenes I had to edit the images to re-create the original scenes from 1956 and to minimize the confusion caused by faces not belonging to the people actually singing here, at least in the case of the main characters (no AI, just old-fashioned manual montaging). I hope it's not super noticable and doesn't detract from the enjoyment.

La fanciulla del West is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Guelfo Civinini and Carlo Zangarini, based on the 1905 play The Girl of the Golden West by the American author David Belasco.
Time: 1849 to 1850
Place: A mining camp at the foot of the Cloudy Mountains, California.

Io non so in quanti di voi possono dire di averlo visto, io posso: Aida Trovatore Fanciulla Carmen ed Ernani❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ero ragazzina, mi sono innamorata di lui , continuando a frequentare i teatri, mi sono innamorata anche di qualcun altro, ma la sua foto, dopo tanti anni, troneggia sempre sulla testiera del mio letto e lì resterà fino a quando vivrò 😢, ho tante sue registrazioni ma fanciulla mi manca e riascoltarla è stata una bella emozione, quando la vidi io, cantava con lui Magda Olivero
L'ho conosciuto e nonostante la grande differenza di eta eravamo diventati amici ,cantai al funerale del fratello Ubaldo ,mio insegnante ,alla fine della cerimonia mi disse " Hai cantato bene " Ce l'ho nel cuore"Grazie Franco di farci ancora emozionare ogni volta che ti sentiamo cantare. Il fratello mi regaló una registrazione fatta a casa sua di Franco in un brano della Gioconda quando ancora non era Franco. Una reliquia.

I was 19 when I saw Corelli in Fanciulla and got his autograph. He saw my girlfriend's teary face and reached out and touched her wet cheek so awed by her tears. Then he said "Will you come to Chenier?" Chenier is my favorite so 2 weeks later we saw Chenier.

Пожалуй, одна из немногих историй , у которой счастливый конец (ещё турандот, но там у принцессы скверный характер, думаю, принцу калфак будет нелегко). Очень жаль, что никто из режиссеров или других поклонников не догадался тихонько снять на пленку оперу, что бы мы могли насладиться полным действом. Et quel hommage aussi en ce centenaire de la mort de Puccini dont la persuasion séduisit l'auteur Belasco qui accepta à nouveau (après sa Mme Butterfly) de lui laisser composer cet opéra ( premier "western spaghetti", opéra avec le "happy end") interprété ici par le "Hollywoodien" Franco Corelli 😃😃😃.

In my opinion, this fragment was best performed by Corelli ... with particular expression: 01:25:40 "Una parola sola, non mi difenderò... Or son sei mesi che mio padre morì". The phrase: "Sola ricchezza mia, Per la madre e pei fratelli, alla dimane, l'eredita (Veredità?) paterna..." - phenomenal!

The only thing I don't understand is why at the beginning of the video, under "CHARACTERS & PERFORMERS" you wrote that the role of Nick is Piero De Palma. And in the video description - Franco Ricciardi (which is correct, as far as I remember). You got it mixed up, I guess...
yeah, it's just an error on my part 😫 it's Franco Ricciardi singing here, as correctly stated in the description. I somehow managed to confuse myself, because De Palma was Nick in the 1964 production... (Actually, technically he's in the video too because he's in some of the pictures, where I could not find suitable ones with Riccardi and Nick's face was not very visible, like in Act 2, and there is also one scene in Act 1 where Ricciardi's head is photoshopped on De Palma's body 😅)
@@FrancoCorelliInfoCenter Not surprising. Keeping in mind the amount of comprimario...)))))) All in all it turned out really great! Thanks again! I think this opera deserved and long awaited its visual realization. Although we have the movie with Frazzoni (1955) and the video from Tokyo with Limarilli (1963). But the 1956 cast from La Scala is stronger, of course.
P.S. Gobbi at 1:35:53 is incredibly expressive! As he always is, actually. He was a great actor. And Corelli, of course, is inimitable. He pulls the maximum of meaning and expression out of this part. The best Johnson!
