  • I bought this 2017 TTR230 a while ago for my wife but she wont ride it. So I figured I will try it out and to my surprise its a really good trail bike. this bike would be perfect beginner bike.

    Picked up one last month. Took apart the forks and threw in some 1.5” spacers. Tightened the shock to its max. Suspension is not so spongy now and can handle the rougher terrain. Rejetted the carb, opened up the air box, and threw a UNI filter in it. Loads more power. Put a 14 tooth counter sprocket on and now 1st and 2nd are useable with great low end power. Fun bike for a low cost and easy inexpensive mods to make it such a better bike.

    Pigtail to off the kill button harness and put in a hidden toggle switch somewhere....someone trying to grab it will kick their guts out and not be able to start it ....next best thing to a key switch....

    I ride the ttr230 in the Canadian rockies west of Calgary. You need the torque of the 13 t front sprocket. I keep up with my buds all on 250s or 300s. I love my ttr. My buds and I all call her Hidalgo. She never leaves me in the bush! BTW. Im 175lbs and ride with a 25-30 lb pack.

      I like the air-cooled bikes myself too, I don't know why. I would rather have a Ttr 230 than a CRF 250x even though I know the Honda has more power. Personally I find the full size bikes too big for me and trail riding. I am like 5'9" with like a 29" inseem no joke, my height is in my torso.

    You should see what I have taken my 2017 xt250 on. The XT250 and ttr 230 are good bikes for what you can do with them. I ride a KDX220r as well, and I know those other bikes can't compete with it, but the xt and ttr are still great, and wish I could get a ttr as well lol. Love them air cooled bikes.

    If it's super cold climate use lighter oil 10w30 I think standard 4 stroke Yamaha is 10w40 good for mild to 110degee weather. easier to start and use a multi prong spark e3.

    I call my TTR Tom Brady. It's not the fastest, it's not the flashiest, it doesn't have the biggest motor but it will perform great ride after ride, will never let you down when you need it most and will out last most other bikes out there.

    Thanks for the review. I'm looking at a gently used 2016. How's the reliability been on yours since it's been 4 years?

    • @emadeit704
      @emadeit704 Рік тому

      I can’t speak on the 2016 in specific and I just got my TTR230 (2013 model) from a friend of a friend who had it since it rolled off the showroom floor and rode the shit out of it. He had someone go through it and replace things here and there before selling, bought new plastics, and you would believe the bike had only ever sat in a garage if you saw it, started it up, etc.
      My father in law has had his 2006 (I think that’s the year, either that or a year off in either direction) for 10+ years and it can still hang with my new one. From what I can tell, very reliable bikes if taken care of. I know it’s 9 months later but maybe I’ll help the next guy
