    Thanks for all of the time and effort put into these videos. I just ordered a 600 the other day and it's videos like this that really add comfort to the purchase when spending that kind of money. I understand that over the years it's going to need maintenance, just like any other machine. It's videos like this and others that made me buy from you. Please don't stop making them and don't think you're getting too much into the weeds, ever. The detail is appreciated and makes it clear you're dealing with experts who can help when you need it. Keep up the great work!

    This machine is a slam dunk! One of my many favorite attributes is the ability to connect an inline cartridge filter softener inside the tank, I don't have a lot of confidence in the pouches. In my eyes, this machine is definitely the best looking of any of the others in the price range. Your efforts to make such detailed videos are much appreciated. Your open invitation to ask questions and the fact that you take the time to answer them speaks volumes of the level of care that the customer will experience.
    Respect and Cheers!

      Hi M, Thanks for the kind comment. We do our best! As to the BWT Bestsave pouch filters, they get the job done and work well so long as you are not going through more than a reservoir's worth of water a day. They need to soak about 12 hours to do there thing. Incidentally, Rancilio Silvia Pro X machines come with Bestsave filter in the box.

    Good job in making all this understandable in how things work. I think the 600 might be all that we would ever need. The 700 with its quiet rotary pump is very nice too. But we're both not putting any milk or sugar in our coffee. We seldom have people over now that our friends have moved, or started their own family.

    Great Video! The mechanical Engineer in me couldn't help but diagram the system out as I followed your video. The one thing I was hoping to see was if they routed the E61 to the brew boiler, as opposed to steam temp on a normal HX machine. Love that they did it this way so you won't need nearly the cooling flush (if any) that you do on an HX boiler.

    Is profitec a cheaper build of the ECM machines? Synchronika seems to be an identical layout but perhaps has some beefier components (The synchronika motor is enormous and needs the large cap they fit as well but that could just be the style of motor being big not more capable?).
    Does Synchronika have the bottom access?
    I love it when equipment is designed for maintenance, not just manufacture or assembly.

      Hi mr, ECM and Profitec are sister companies. Kinda like Lexus/Toyota. For instance, the Synchronika and Profitec Pro 700 are essentially the same machine inside the case. Difference is detail of external finishing. The Synchronika does have a bottom access panel. ECM/Profitec does put effort into the serviceability of their machines. Here's an interview I did with Michael Hauck CEO of ECM/Profitec. He discusses specific technical innovations and his design philosophy: ua-cam.com/video/K0RI5rdz4Ww/v-deo.html

      Hi CH, Thanks for the request. I'll talk to our service manager about that. It's a request we get on a regular basis. Problem is it's risky due to the complexity of the hydraulics in dual boiler machines. If a machine has seen water that's too hard and/or been neglected, descaling can dislodge chunks of scale and cause problems in other parts of the machine. That's why manufacuturers recommend in their manuals DB machines be descaled by a professional machine technician. Best course is to properly filter water to reduce scale potential in the first place and use best practices like turning over water in the steam boiler for those who only ever use steam from the boiler and not hot water. If you steam only, over time minerals will concentrate in the steam boiler. To prevent scale potential look to products from BWT which uses ion-exchange technology to exchange magnesium for calcium in source water. That leaves you with a mineral level needed for flavor and equipment protection from corrosion and a mineral level that will not cause scale. BWT has in reservoir pad filters like this: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-bestsave-s-anti-scale-filter or pitcher filters like this: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-penguin-2-7-l-water-pitcher

    Great video, how can a machine not have a PID after seeing how easy it is to install and looking online the units are very inexpensive. I saw a video of a $2500 machine with no PID, that is a head scratcher.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 роки тому +1

      Hi EK, Thanks for the comment. Some users actually prefer a machine without PID - not a lot but they are out there. Reason is brew temps (if you know what your are doing) can be manipulated quickly using timed flushes prior to an extraction. So you always run your boiler hot. Then flush some water (usually timing the flush) to reduce the brew temp prior to pulling a shot.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 роки тому

      Hi RZ, Thanks for the comment and question. Those are high limit switches. They function like circuit breakers if they sense the boiler get too hot. In simple terms, the load side carries the power to the the heating element and the neutral side carries it away. Breaking the circuit on either side prevents the element from heating.

    So if one sticks to 50 ppm water, which should prevent scale build-up, what kind of maintenance would be required over the years outside of the easy things that the owner can do themselves (like backflushing, changing out shower screen and gasket, cleaning the milk wand)? Trying to get a sense of how frequently it needs to be sent in to a service professional. After 3 years, my Profitec 700 had issues with a loose wire and the brew gauge being clogged which ended up requiring a trip to an espresso service tech..

    • @Wholelattelovepage

      Hi AL, Thanks for the question. On top of basic maintenance you mentioned you'd probably want to lubricate and/or rebuild the E61 group annually depending on use level. If you're at all handy with tools it's a very easy job and we have a video which takes you through that in detail: studio.ua-cam.com/users/videoELIwD40tsrs/edit?o=U

    Do you think it would be more wise to purchase a Profitec pro 600 over the rocket Giotto cronometro?
    Also is there any drawback with the different design of steam arm and hot water arm on the Profitec 600

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  Рік тому

      Hi Zack, Thanks for the question. Personally, I'd go with the Pro 600 unless you're going to go with EVO R version of the Giotto which is plumbable direct to waterline and has a rotary pump. The Type V Giotto is not plumbable and uses a vibration pump. Other considerations: The Pro 600 is a dual boiler so can run independent temperatures in each boiler. Plus, the Pro 600 can run at higher steam pressure than the Giotto for better frothing performance. And, the Pro 600 is available with flow control (free upgrade at the moment from us) of the E61 group which expands your extraction capabilities. Check out the Pro 600 w/Flow control here: www.wholelattelove.com/products/profitec-pro-600-dual-boiler-espresso-machine-with-flow-control

      Hi b, hard to be certain from here and not sure I fully understand your issue. Changing the OPV setting to a higher pressure should not stop the pump from working - it's actually less stress on the pump.

    This video is great. I’m having a possible issue with my Pro 600 (purchased in early 2020 from WLL). The steam boiler will randomly sit at less than a bar of pressure and will struggle to get back up to the full 2 bars. The steam and water valves are sealed. The PID is set to the correct temps for 2 bars, but shows a current temp in the mid 100s (way lower than the set temp). No signs of leaking or new sounds from the machine.
    The boilers are filled. My water is good. When this issue happens it’ll sometimes resolve itself after 5-10 minutes. Other times I may need to open the steam and let the tiny bit of pressure escape, which seems to wake up the heating element. Any theories of what could be going on?
    I’ve taken apart the flow control valve to see if there’s any signs of hard water, and my machine looks great. If I run the hot water valve the water will have the smallest amount of tiny minerals that come out, with otherwise clear looking/tasting water. So I’m stumped.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 роки тому +1

      Hi JJ, Hard to be certain from here but an idea or two. First is an intermittent issue with the relay providing power to the heating element of the steam boiler. Another was a leaking vacuum relief valve but that's unlikely. You'd hear hissing and the boiler would heat beyond 212F. Sounds like the temp probe is working properly if it's indicating a temperature that makes sense with the indicated pressure but... Is the boiler making steam when the PID is indicating temps in the mid 100s? If so then either the gauge is wrong, temp probe is wrong or maybe both. The boiler can't make steam unless it's over 212F. Best course of action is to contact our tech support dept. here: support.wholelattelove.com/hc/en-us
      They can help you better diagnose and resolve the issue.

    what’s the recommended time to clean the Profitec boiler, so it lasts longer ? Thank You

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 роки тому +4

      Hi Ruben, Thanks for the question. There is no recommended time for boiler cleaning. I assume you mean descaling as no detergents should ever be run through the boiler. Dual boiler machines generally should not be descaled by end user unless they have expert knowledge. Here in our repair facility we generally only descale dual boiler machines by removing the boilers from the machine. So what to do as an end user of a dual boiler? First, feed yoour machine with water that will not cause scale. If your tap water is safe to drink we recommend solutions from BWT. Their filters use a calcium to magnesium ion exchange which leaves you with water that will not cause scale when used as directed yet has the minerals needed for flavor and to prevent corrosion of internal components. If water is too pure, like distilled or zero TDS RO water corrosion of metals can occur. BWT makes an in reservoir pad filter the Bestsave: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-bestsave-s-anti-scale-filter or their Penguin Pitcher: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-penguin-2-7-l-water-pitcher
      Beyond that use best practices like turning over the water in the service boiler regularly - especially if you only ever steam as minerals can concentrate in the boiler over time. You don't need to turn over much. If you heat/rinse cups with hot water from the service boiler or make Americanos that's enough. Otherwise run a cup or 2 of hot water out of the boiler every couple days of use and you'll be fine.
      Hope that helps!
      Marc
