They have always sparked a desire to be better and to help the needy….but today, as I am truly feeling like a faithful beggar…your teaching gifts have helped me to breathe in the air of Grace…and fill my heart with peace and our Saviors love for us. I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all my life. At Christmas our choir performed a beautiful number “He Is The Christ.” One line really hit me - “ For I am His; He bought me with His suffering.” I have always chosen Him but the thought that He bought ME personally with His suffering was very humbling for me. I am His! He chose me! The last thought of this piece is : “Words can’t convey the endless debt I owe Him. Nothing repays His love so deep. But I can give my heart, my true devotion, For He is everything to me.” ❤️ So beautiful!

The point is not how low we are. The point of repentance is how far we have to go to get to where christ is. The difference between me and any greater or lesser sinner is nothing compared to the distance between me and christ. The atonement of Jesus Christ is infinite for everyone. Nobody needs less or more of christ's grace than another to become heirs with him.
The Spirit has taught me through your lessons. So grateful for the closeness of the Spirit now. I can't say I've ever wanted to do evil things, Mosiah 5:2, but my heart has been changed to want to do better. To become more of who Heavenly Father would have me be. I think your dreams have come true, through the lives you have touched on this channel. 😀

I have always loved your lessons but now I want to thank you for the addition of your one-liners. They stick with me and help me remember from where they come in the scriptures.
Initially, there seems to be a fine line between learning our way vs. earning our reward of Celestial glory.. But the line is actually wide between the focus of becoming like Him vs.the focus on qualifying for heaven. The focus on Qualifying is centered on checking the boxes and the focus on becoming is on Jesus. Qualifying is looking inward and becoming is looking upward and outward.
Thank you for your teachings from the scriptures. Because of you, I'm understanding more. Thank you again.

Thank you, Brother Halverson! As a busy mom of several young children this is a gift to bring the words of Christ audibly into my life. You have taught me how to study ancient scripture, modern scripture and general conference addresses and bring it all to life by modeling for us how to do it. I believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ and experience a change of heart each time I study and know that my little improvements each day are preparing me to be comfortable in the presence of God the Father and God the Son. Trying to help people understand that the gospel isn’t just a ton of rules to keep but instead a path toward freedom and a pure love not known in the world, is very difficult. You are doing a great service by teaching who Christ really is. Every character of Christ that we take on frees us from a trap that is currently in vogue in the world and yet so many look at his character traits as confining rules. So sad.

Thank you for your spending the time to give us more. Teach us more. I’ve been in the church all my life and have been taught the high points multiple times until they’ve gotten old and boring. You have given them new life.
In my study I’ve discovered Isaiah isn’t the only difficult part of understanding the book’s message. It’s only the most obvious. 1st nephi is easy reading but from that point on there are multiple author styles written in first person past and present tenses through Omni. Then it’s always switching from Mormon’s 3rd person past tense to first person text he drops in like king Benjamin’s talk. The storyline is so seamless most never recognize it’s happening but it makes a huge impact on how much we understand of it

Beautiful lighting focuses on you, not the background. Your right-side with shadow and light effect are very flattering to your face!! Too much light flattens and add weight, but the depth in lighting compliments you and separates you nicely from the busy bookshelves in the old background. The actor face is odd and the bright white bookend distract from you. The look feels calming and inviting, subtle yet softly dramatic - love it!! This is my favorite style of your lectures!! It’s beautiful! I love the simple casual you here, with the lighting bringing you forward - shadowing lightly is slimming, flattering and calming. The background should stay background to keep you the single focal point.
The fonts in the graphics are too chunky and small, try condensed fonts instead of the bold on every text. There’s a balance - that will fit more text and be easier to read, than tiny bold text! Too many words across on one line make it hard to track down to next line. That’s why traditional reading has columns, for ease of reading.
Love this new look! Elegant and proffesional, casual and calm. I find it VERY inviting!!!

The low levels are like a little too pronounced and almost muffled or echoing. I don’t know how to describe. But your audio at your home office was prime and perfect! It's so sad to see those who struggle with traditional beliefs
when if only they would really learn and the truth life would be so much better for them.
The God of family tree going back to parents and grandparents was slow to change from the beliefs of those very first concerts to the Church.
It been a long hard journey - but of course we have all been happier and better off than those who came before us. I'm
greatful to those 1st converts in our family line for blessing those who have come after with The Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
As I have tried to better understand the traditions of the past - I have to say, even to my parents - that The God I have come to know over my 78 years of life is more loving and has helped me more than what you have described to me.
I hope now that they have passed away, that they find The God of The Book of Mormon that you have taught in this lesson -this is The God I know and have been learning about through these Come Follow Me Lessons.

In the tradition I grew up in,
I look at Jane Aston novels - Pride and Predudice for example - disowning, disinhareiting etc. abusive behavior to keep family members in line etc.
I believe that's why, at least in part, it takes so many generations for some families to learn, understand and live The Gospel.
If only they could see how it actually works - it's so hard for them to catch the vision. It takes years before the fruits are visual.

A man at the Salt Lake City Amtrak station asked me for money so he could buy a bus ticket to visit his sick brother in Minneapolis. Because of King Benjamin‘s speech in the Book of Mormon I gave him $20. A few days later I was at the same Amtrak station, waiting to return home. That same man was telling others the same story he told me a few days ago. That man was not a beggar, but was a con artist. At the Chicago Amtrak station there are also lots of people that go around asking for money. I suspect some of them are mentally ill. I offered to buy some thing for one of them to eat. He did not want a meal. He just said “God bless you” and moved on. I do not want to give many to people who ask me for it on the street. My wife and I discussed this and feel that it would be wiser to donate money to local charitable organizations that truly help those in need.
This is something I have wrestled with for decades.
You are using wisdom.
This happens a lot in this day and age, not just a little, a LOT!!. I think we really have to let the Holy Spirit guide us to be open and willing to help those that truly need it.
I love that you have chosen to give that way, it must help a lot!
I’ve pondered the same…and have decided… for me… that I would just give as they asked… and then the sin/ or deception would sit on THEIR shoulders…
While the lord waits patiently digging, dunging, and nurturing them… and MAYBE…PERHAPS… they will (one day) come to realize-that what they have chosen to do …that THEIR WAY ISNT correct… and they turn to better ways…
But until then… I’m choosing to emulate…what Christ may do…

(Jonathon Edwards sounds as if he was autistic.) I take great comfort in the knowledge that God the Father is Omniscient. He knows me better than I know myself. He knows the struggles I have and the desires of my heart. I know He won't give up on me even when I am tempted to give up on myself.
I love our lessons. I like the more casual look rolled up , we all should do that to help the "work" that needs to done. The camera angle is so much better, too. Now if they could fix the white on black background. Really hard to read. Lessons maybe shorter but excellent as usually!❤

Dear Brother Halverson, Thank you for your wonderful and thoughtful videos. I have a request. Every lesson I have been down loading at least your slides at the end with your one liners, and any charts or comparisons you create. I then print off your slides as photos condensed to one page and glue the page into my CFM manual. I am wondering if you would consider returning back to your light colored backgrounds. The black with the white lettering looks cool, but it uses up far more dark ink. Something to consider if you would. Thank you again for all the work you put into these videos.

Thank for helping me understand the scriptures better and helping me take them into my heart. I feel the spirit every time I listen. One thing I have noticed since you have started working with Faith Matters is the sound level of the podcast has changed. I used to carry you in my pocket as I did my house work! But now you are so quiet even if I'm wearing head phones I cant hear you as well. I can only listen to you when it is much quieter! Does Faith Matters have the ability to turn the sound up when they are recording to help this old lady hear you better! Thank you for all your hard work in our behalf!

Re: your description of Jonathan Edwards; avoiding eye contact, and speaking in a monotone. Those are two behaviors very typical of high functioning autism. (anxiety is often comorbid with ASD, and can be paralyzing.)
I am a convert, and I grew up being taught by a very influential family member that god of death, hell, fire, and brimstone. of "you have to ___" or god will smite you down to hell.
There was something inside of me that rejected it, and was determined to believe in a loving God.
at ~ 27 minutes; Adam and Eve had to leave God's presence for one simple transgression. They were perfectly innocent, and were tricked, but still, they could no longer stand in God's presence. All of us need Jesus, regardless of how many or how few sins we have. What an amazing Lord we have, who is willing to save all of us.
The author of “Sinners in the Hands Of an Angry God” makes me wonder what kind of parent he was.

Even though I really enjoy the chosen, as I’m sitting here feeling deep emotions from the Scriptures I find it very troubling to hear you, speaking of Christ and seeing an actor over your shoulder.

ALL pictures of Christ are someone's idea and usually use a model. Not sure why the picture of someone who portrays Jesus is offensive.
I think of Christ a bit like a lighthouse. Just as a lighthouse guides boats to come to it, so Christ guides us to come to Him.

so with the description of us getting new parents, the exalted Christ as our father and the mortal community of the church as our nurturing mortal mother. This parallels Christ"s Parents with
God the Father as the exalted Father, and mortal Mary as the nurturing mortal mother.
For me the covenant path is my relationship with the Savior.
Speaking of Christ and His doctrine - a lot of people read 3 Nephi 11:39-40 and accuse the Church of "declar[ing] more or less than this."
It'd be cool if you could address that when we get to that point.

'ye will administer of your substance unto him that standeth in need; Mosiah 4-The key is those that 'stand in need'. So if the beggar or the poor are without the gospel, then that is the 'substance' of things not seen which are true inthewhich the foundation of the gospel is built
(Faith) 1 They Need the Gospel and to increase their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, but that is not all. If the beggar or the poor petition because lack of want , 2) (food raiment shelter) should we not exercise our own faith and act on that petition and extend those things who petition to bring relief.
"Lord, when did we we feed thee and clothe thee and visit the weary, and He shall say, inasmuch as ye have done it unto them ye have done it unto Me.
To criminal homelessness is to deny Christ the mercy and compassion He desires to send to the sons and daughters of God who are the downtrodden of this world, thereby condemning the law of Love that He gave in order to emulate His love to those who would be willing. Those who reject the mercy and the love of God, who have deaf ears to His commandments will be liable in the day judgement. Seek not to question but rather seek to apply the principles and commandments God that He gave so that the promise of eternal lives will be shed forth unto the giver and the receiver

Was the covenants made by the people of King Benjamin separate from, or a follow-on to, previous covenants entered into at baptism?
Could you please clear this up for me since we are talking about Covenants. I have heard from the pulpit all kinds of variations of this and I just need to be clear now. When we take the sacrament are we renewing all our covenants including baptism and Temple? Or is it strictly baptismal covenants we are renewing
Which covenants involve keeping commandments and taking the names of Christ and remembering him with the promise of being with God? Both baptism and the temple cover all four of those points.

I, too, have always been confused about that. But, if you allow me, I will share my thoughts with you.

What I am thinking is that since we are commanded to attend the Temple regularly or as often as circumstances allow and the sacrament is focused on renewing our covenants in our respective immersive water baptisms, then I am thinking the sacrament is strictly for our own individual baptismal covenants.
If partaking of the sacrament also covered our own individual and combined Temple covenants, then there would be no need for us to ever attend the Temple again after our initial full visit because one of the two main purposes of the Temple and of Temple attendance is to make anew our Temple covenants on our initial full visit to the Temple (when we "go through" it) and then renew those covenants on each subsequent full visit. But if Temple covenants are renewed simply and absolutely by just taking the sacrament, even once, then that makes Temple attendance, no matter how much we would have done it or do it, to be utterly pointless and worthless.
If I remember correctly, it seems like President Packer talked about this quite regularly before he passed away. So I suggest you look up on UA-cam or elsewhere his talks in General Conference and at other meetings and services to see what he said exactly. And you just might find that other past and current church authorities and officials have probably also spoken about this and maybe have written about it too.

P.S. The other main reason for the Temple and attending it is to bring us the closest we can be to God while in mortality.

When we return to the temple after receiving our own endowment, the ordinances we participate in are in behalf of others on the other side of the veil. The Sacrament is when we renew all covenants.

I had a few questions about some sections in the chapters.
Mosiah 4:12 says, And behold, I say unto you that if ye do this ye shall always
rejoice, and be filled with the love of God, and always retain a remission of
your sins; and ye shall grow in the knowledge of the glory of him that created
you, or in the knowledge of that which is just and true.
Since the church teaches humans are uncreated, eternal beings, what does "created
you" in this verse mean?
Mosiah 5:7 says, "And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall
be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this
day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed
through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his
sons and his daughters".
How is Heavenly Father a spiritually begotten son of the Christ on the world he
was growing up on?
Mosiah 6:7 says, "And king Mosiah did cause his people that they should till
the earth. And he also, himself, did till the earth, that thereby he might not

Since Mosiah did according to his father Benjamin, why did he have to cause the
people that they should till the earth? Wasn't this already happening in the
reign of Benjamin?

@@disciplesofjesuschrist2026 So Adam and Eve were in the same "primordial world of eternal uncreated intelligences" with another female and male intelligence before those latter two were taken from this "primordial world", became mortals, and then became Gods of our Earth. For some reason, they chose that Adam and Eve from that primordial world of intelligences to become their spirit children of this Earth and then chose subsequent Adams and Eves to be the first humans on other earths he supposedly created.
“Created” in Mosiah 4:12 is likely referring to physical creation. Mosiah 5:7 is talking about spiritual rebirth. God is responsible for our physical existence. Everyone was created this way, but not everyone knows their Creator, and getting to know him is equivalent to gaining life eternal and can be considered a rebirth.
The church teaches that we are created in more than one way and born in more than one way. The term “uncreated” is rarely used by the prophets of the church of Jesus Christ.
The Church of Jesus Christ has no doctrine about Heavenly Father growing up on a planet. The only planet we know about God growing up on is earth when Jesus grew up in the home of Mary and Joseph. You can make speculations about when Jesus says he only does the things that he’s seen his father do, but there are no doctrines about that.
Mosiah 6: 7 is likely referring to Mosiah continuing the work of his Father by promoting agriculture and hard work and showing an example. It doesn’t say he started a new program.

@@tony-northcountry3272, There is an important principle that governs the doctrine of the Church. The doctrine is taught by all 15 members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve. It is not hidden in an obscure paragraph of one talk. True principles are taught frequently and by many. Our doctrine is not difficult to find.

So when we ask our teen if they believe and they say they believe in God and Jesus Christ, but don't believe the rest that the church teaches or haven't had confirmation of it. What do we do? She doesn't want to pray because she said it feels like she's talking to a wall. She goes to church but doesn't want to be there.
Recognize that it’s normal to receive a testimony of one thing at a time. But give her opportunities to gain a testimony of other things and encourage her to not forsake what she does know for what she doesn’t.
If God is real he wants her to pray to him and learn from him at a minimum. Prayer and seeking what God wants from her is the beginning of Faith in Him. You can’t change whether she seeks God or not. But you can express your concerns and hopes and the reasons for those feelings. The scriptures teach that faith is the beginning of any benefits that believing God exists provides. So you might encourage her to at least find a way to exercise some type of faith, and learn what faith means to you yourself before you teach her the importance of it.
Let her know that you want her to continue learning that way when she gets to the point that she has enough faith to find answers to her prayers there will be enough knowledge of the various subjects she has to pray about in her head to adequately council with the Lord about them in order to help her understand them and know what’s true about them and how they apply to her.
