Hi Nitsan, awesome review! Liked, subbed and featured on my channel. I work for YI Technology so any problems just let me know. Did YI re send you a YI 4K+?
Hi Sami, Glad you liked my video. I bought another one from Amazon. It has a similar problem on the other side of the lens, but not as bad as the first one.
UPDATE ABOUT SHARPNESS: The lens was definitely blurry on my first one in both the middle and left side. Second camera has a bit of blurriness on the right side, not too bad but I need to replace it again. I would still recommend this camera, but be aware you may need to swap it to get a good unit. I would use Amazon so that returns aren't too difficult.
why is it so blurry, bad post processing? is it a plastic lens? cant it find focus? is it interpolated? looks awful, was hoping for so much sharpness and it looks so cheap.
As I mention in the video: 1 A lot of it was shot in slow motion rather than 4k. 2 My camera has a faulty lens. Left side is out of focus. If you look at the 4K and most 1080p shots the right side is sharp. UA-cam still not showing the 4K playback option for some reason. I guess it takes a long time to process.
In this U.S. I only see Amazon as a seller of this particular camera. And it only comes with the case. I know some people buy this from Aliexpress or something. But I wouldn't buy electronics from them.
Yes I've not seen any big kits with this camera. Yup I really don't like aliexpress. I've bought from them twice and was appalled by their customer service when there's an issue. I ended up stuck with a piece of crap slider.
Just some small adjustments in FCPX. I don't know what I did specifically. Probably just brought the shadows up a little and added a little contrast and saturation.
Yi 4k+ All the features are quite ok but, Lens EASILY SCRATCHES...very disappointed!! I bought two of them and seems the tip of the lens "has been built" to protrudes very little height of the edge, result? in One month both of them are ruined in the tip of the lens given' a blurred focus in the center. VERY BAD if not using a protection!
a must have for one person is not a must have for another person. This is a tiny camera, not a professional production camera. It does have a high bit rate optional, up to 135mbps if i remember correctly, it does have an optional waterpoof case, it does have microphone input via the usb port, although no adapter available at the moment.
Thanks for the video, some footages look great, si don't know how you guys do it, I guess it takes practice. I have a couple of questions for you. The first one is that the specs of the camera state that the maximum amount of storage capacity is 64GB microSD card but you use a 128GB, have you had a problem with it, have you been able to use the entire capacity of the card without an issue? The second question is, which video editor do you use, does YI have one? Thanks again for the video.
Glad you liked the video. I've had no problems at all with my card. I use FCPX on Mac. A decent free one could be Davinci Resolve Lite. I think it's for both windows and mac
I think the specs say 160 or 170 degrees. Best to check official site. It also has the extra wide mode where it squishes the top and bottom down into a 16:9 image. Very useful.
Thanks. I have just made a measurement myself (I am planning my own 3D VR 360 rig) and it came out to be 153 degrees diagonal, which is close to the 155 degrees official value. But what is vertical and horizontal (in 4:3 mode)?
Hi Yes it's a nice camera, but I'm going to swap it for something a little larger, since I want more of a pocket camera than an action camera. Audio is not perfect, but overall I really like it. Great screen, great controls compared to ones that don't have the touch screen, and video quality is really nice.
Apart from the 60 FPS at 4K how would you rate this compared to an iPhone with 4K? My issue with a lot of these action cams is that the iPhone SE (And upwards) when used with say FilmicPro is always better quality and its already in your pocket. Sure sometimes you might not want to use your expensive phone, but a lot of the time you can. It'd be cool to see a comparison of similar.
Any chance you could let me know how to get the spot metering to work? I can select it in the menu system but can't figure out how to then select the spot I want in the frame. Thanks
Hey. I'm not sure. I just managed to get the center of the image to meter, but I don't know how to move the dot. I think this might be a bug. Firmware update might help.
Great review Nitsan! Wich program did you use to colorize the video? Does exist an app that remote this action - camera? Nex video can we see some footage shot at higher sharpness value? :) Thanks for the review.
Thanks! Yes I will show remote app in part 2. almost done. Edited with the super crappy colour tools in FCPX. I have the replacement cam on the way now, so yes I will shoot some sharpness tests
Glidecam hd1000 is my favourite. Or for a camera like this I'd probably get a little gopro gimbal, although I don't know what the best one is. With this specific camera you can actually do a lot just with the built in stabilizer.
yes just use whatever software you have. no need to spend money at the start. if you have a mac and money to spend then final cut can make editing a little faster/easier.
FCPX. Really terrible colour grading software. I did test colouring some of these in Photoshop which works really damn well, but it takes a very long time to render so I don't use that for my videos.
Apparently I did not explain correctly, you did not understand me, you have a video in the video divided into 2 parts on the left, the original with the right color correction? How and in what program did you adjust the colors? They have become more saturated and I like the picture on the right
one of the things I appreciate mostly is the screw hole that would let me free to attach this camera to any of my monopod or tripod. Just a question. What exactly is the name of the new model of this camera, and what of the previous one?
i was checking for good shotgun mics and was wondering if you have any recommendations. your last vid is quite old. dont wanna spend too much on it and was thinking of the rode videomicro
I've not tried my videomicro yet. Been busy. In general rode mics are pretty okay or sometimes great. I still like my old HTDZ, but it is really bulky.
The rodelink is awesome if you can budget for it. Soooo much easier in many situations, and usually much cleaner since you can be so close to the source.
Thank you! Finally an instructive review... Little tip about your lens comment, back-bone will release a ribcage for 4k+ in a few weeks (which allow to set multiple kinds of lenses on it) . I'll surely get one & be able to comment on it.
I was hesitant for quite some time as well. But it can still hold some low profile lens inside the waterproof casing (taking off the c-mount adapter). Don't know if the original lens will still work tho... But if it does, you get the best of both worlds. Personally I'm 90% sold.
Still the same as the review. I like most of it, just wish the audio was better. I got their cable adapter but it still allows noise to be recorded from the built-in mic while the external mic is plugged in. I've not tried in several months so hopefully they fixed this in the firmware.
I'm not sure. From what I've seen yes it does a decent job in low light. I think definitely fine for a concert, as there are usually lights around, although it's not enough for *super* low light, for example a Sony A7S can film with the light of just one candle or just moonlight, and this camera cannot do that.
There are many mirrorless cameras. It's hard to compare, as there is no manual ISO in the action camera. In my comparison to the A7S, the Yi was performing as well as I could expect a 4k sensor to perform. I was able to use the Yi in low light where the A7S used 6400 ISO at f4.
oh thanks I didn't know that you have no manual control over the ISO! I've don't own an action camera yet... So if the scene is very dark it will tend to expose automatically for the shadows? in that case I guess it will be noisy...
I have seen a lot of reviews for this camera but I still have questions... How do you hook up the external microphone? Can you connect an external front facing screen to it for 'selfie video' in regards to making UA-cam and vlog videos? (Call me stubborn but I am trying to avoid using a phone for this). Thx
Hi You need a special adapter cable from them to use a mic with this. In my test with it, the camera didn't turn off the built-in mic, only reduce it a lot, so it could still pick up wind noise on the built-in mic while you're recording from the plugged-in mic. You also have to enable the mic from the menu which is a massive pain, especially if you forget to change it. I've added some links in the video description to an action camera with a selfie screen that looks really nice. I'll be getting one soon to review. I'm not aware of any way to add one to the Yi.
Oh BTW seem my most recent video about the new lens. It's not a full review yet, but my Aukey lens review shows more footage from this kind of lens. Basically, it's much wider than any pocket camera or action camera that I know of, which is why I think for me that is the one I would use most of the time rather than an action camera.
@@nitsan first of all thanks very much for responding. most action cameras have a hdmi video output. I was hoping if this was possible with the usb c port of the yi 4k+.
@@nitsan in regards to the lenses you mentioned... Wide is good but the fish eye effect is an instant fail for making videos. So it is not for me but thanks anyway.
Hi Nitsan, awesome review! Liked, subbed and featured on my channel. I work for YI Technology so any problems just let me know. Did YI re send you a YI 4K+?
Hi Sami,
Glad you liked my video. I bought another one from Amazon. It has a similar problem on the other side of the lens, but not as bad as the first one.
That's weird, can you contact our support@yitechnology.com for another replacement?
Thanks, I'll email them now.
UPDATE ABOUT SHARPNESS:

Nitsan Simantov can you use your pixapro led100 mkii with a battery pack? I hope you can do the led200 as well.. great value cam...
Hey. The 100D Mark II+ version can work with a battery. I have both, but I don't use the battery much.
Yours didn't come with a waterproof housing? I think a free waterproof housing is standard. I got one with my camera in the US.
It depends what kit you buy. It can be bought without the housing for a bit less money. Yesterday I got a second one with the housing.
Can you show how you edited the footage? apparently you are a wizard and made old gray look really good...
Just some small adjustments in FCPX. I don't know what I did specifically. Probably just brought the shadows up a little and added a little contrast and saturation.
haha on video rec mode tap the screen to hide the osd and touch slide from botton to up. bam you will shethe focus point
Thanks :)
rly good thank you ! i'd like to see low light performance (i use to film weddings like chorals in churchs and it's a pain when you cant add light)
cool i'll try to film some more low light stuff.

I'd like to see a demo of it using AV out over HDMI. - Although I'm not sure if it's possible to do this and charge it at the same time.
god i love your reviews lol so funny - great content well done
Thanks :D

What is the angular field of view for the Xiaomi Yi 4K plus camera? FOV diagonal, horizontal and vertical values?
I think the specs say 160 or 170 degrees. Best to check official site.
It also has the extra wide mode where it squishes the top and bottom down into a 16:9 image. Very useful.

If I'm not mistaken this is what the vertical would be in 4:3 mode:
155 degrees horizontal ÷ 4 = 38.75
38.75 x 3 = 116.25 degrees vertical
Hello, how are you? Do I have two questions?
1: Is the Camera Worth It?
2: What was your setup used in post production color?
Thank you =)
Hi

I don't have an iphone, sorry. For my uses a camera works better most of the time.
GoPro killer! If Xiaomi will actually release that USB mic. As a bluetooth mic for the original Yi 4k was never released.
Yeah I really hope they do. I tried to make a DIY adapter but could only hear it when the mic was peaking super loud.
yea, i noticed the gopro usb-c microphone adapter was £50...Ouch !!
I figured it out, you select spot metering, then press on the screen so any text disappears then swipe up from the bottom, pretty convoluted !
Does the lens destortion work in 4K at 60fps?
love it man, you sold me

Hi! The links you gave direct to the 4k (not +) version which is much cheeper but without 4K@60p
Thanks. I added new links.
hey man first of all great videos 👌 second: what glide/steadycam do you recommend (shouldnt be too expensive)
Glidecam hd1000 is my favourite.

1.Can order by voice (voice control?)
2. In water resist case, it can control by?
I think it has a mode that allows you to do some things while it is in the case.
No voice.
Pls what software you are using? Could you make a tutorial editing to improve color like this vídeo? Tks
Hi. Thanks for the idea. I just did very basic things. Added a bit of contrast and saturation.
Oh I'm using FCPX. But you can find tutorials for whatever software you have. Davinci Resolve Lite is free I think.
Nitsan Simantov the adjust like a go pro image.
Nitsan Simantov thanks, I will search it... you think that this software is OK to begin and post in UA-cam?
yes just use whatever software you have. no need to spend money at the start. if you have a mac and money to spend then final cut can make editing a little faster/easier.
In which program do you adjust the colors?
FCPX. Really terrible colour grading software. I did test colouring some of these in Photoshop which works really damn well, but it takes a very long time to render so I don't use that for my videos.

Yes i understood. It was done in FCPX.
I was just explaining that it's a crap program for colouring. :)
Thanks
I love your style Sami
Thanks for the video , to mount the video ,what app you use ?!
Thanks
I edit in FCPX if that's what you were asking.
You could also take a look at lightworks and davinci resolve lite.
one of the things I appreciate mostly is the screw hole that would let me free to attach this camera to any of my monopod or tripod. Just a question. What exactly is the name of the new model of this camera, and what of the previous one?
Yup me too.
4K is old.
4K+ is new.
new one has the carbon fiber texture on the front and says 4k+
i was checking for good shotgun mics and was wondering if you have any recommendations. your last vid is quite old. dont wanna spend too much on it and was thinking of the rode videomicro

I was hesitant for quite some time as well. But it can still hold some low profile lens inside the waterproof casing (taking off the c-mount adapter). Don't know if the original lens will still work tho... But if it does, you get the best of both worlds. Personally I'm 90% sold.

Is the yi 4k+ video footage editable in iMovie on an iPhone 7+? Thanks
I have not tried it. I looked on google and as far as I can tell H.264, .mp4 file format is what imovie wants, and that's what the Yi makes
Nitsan Simantov thanks mate
If I am not interested in 4k 60fps.... Is the yi 4k would be also good to have... Thanks for sharing.
Yes it's a good camera but doesn't have a microphone input, has different colours in the image, etc.
Thanks indeed.... I might wait for the yi 4k plus...
I already own an SJCAM 5000X elite... But I have heard that the yi 4k is much better than the Sjcam..
Bro! no more videos? ! damn yo!
Yeah sorry. I'll post more soon as I can.
Cool! The i.s. in awesome you but do you think it can also be used for lowlight conditions, live concerts in particular?
I mean to match a mirrorless, it will be too noisy?
I'm not sure. From what I've seen yes it does a decent job in low light. It seems to exposes roughly in the middle, until you reach the max ISO, then the image will just get darker as the lights dim.
I have seen a lot of reviews for this camera but I still have questions...
How do you hook up the external microphone?
Can you connect an external front facing screen to it for 'selfie video' in regards to making UA-cam and vlog videos? (Call me stubborn but I am trying to avoid using a phone for this).
Thx
Hi
You need a special adapter cable from them to use a mic with this. Nice review, what is the difference between YI 4k and this one, YI 4k+ ?
4k+ version has 60p 4k and other improvements
What program to edit?
I use FCPX. You can use something different if you want. Maybe Davinci Resolve Lite (free).
I can not find FCPX, whether it is for windows?
It's not for windows. Try Davinci Resolve Lite.
Any for windows ?
Davinci
