1:20 That's the best disclaimer I've ever heard for a bike weight. I'm gonna be honest I don't really care anymore. If my geometry is good and my wheels and tyres aren't too heavy I'm happy.
I'd love to see reviews on bikes/brands in the gravel lineup that us mortals can afford and see how they compare to these spenny options. Kona, Bombtrack, Surly, Salsa, Jamis, Norco or Marin are attainable for most people.
I got myself a specialized roubaix which is an all-road bike now with a tire clearance of 40mm. I use it with 25 mm Schwalbe pro one and 50mm carbon wheelset or with 38mm panaracer gravelling on DTswiss g540 rims . I love it
Multi wheel guy here - Definitely the way to go. This Time looks like a real blast, but as I can afford ONE really nice premium bike - but no more than that I'll have to "stick" rather than twist. But you are right about the alternative options - I built a Trek Checkpoint frameset (in a fantastic smokey blue colourway) with GRX 2by 11 speed Di2, Pro discover carbon bar and stem, Zipp carbon seat post and Sell Italia SLR gravel saddle. I use my Garmin Rally pedals and have three wheelsets for it - Roval Terra C carbon wheels with Pathfinder 42mm tires for gravel and bikepacking, DT Swiss GR 1600 with Hutchinson Touareg 45mm tires for muddy trails, and Hunt Aerowide 34s with Vittoria Corsa Pro 32mm tires for road rides and club runs. One Bike to do it all!
I had a Crux, swapped it for a Lauf, popped 2.1 Racekings on it and it's perfect for our BC 🇨🇦 gravel and MTB trails. If all my bikes were stolen tomorrow, I would pick another up with two wheelsets and go for it 😊
Have a Seigla running my first set of 2.1 Mezcals and love it for PNW gravel and trails & they served me well on the Montana section of the GDMBR. Stocking up on tires and might grab some Racekings too.
One bike two wheels is the way. I bought a Sonder Camino Aluminium with Rival AXS. Came with 45mm gravel tyres, wonderful off road and fine on the pavement. Bought a second hand set of wheels and some 35mm Gravel King Semi-Slicks, and I can now go anywhere. I could have gone full road tyres but Gravelkings are great for local Northumberland roads and bridleways. I still use the gravel wheels for full offroad days out and adventures. I could buy a "proper" road frame with narrower tyres but why bother. Swapping wheels takes me 2 minutes, hubs are the same so no need to align anything. Then if I take my bike with me on a trip I can easily stick the second set of wheels in the car to cover all the bases. Thankfully the bike was a lot cheaper than this frameset, though that red colour fade is very smart.
Cannondale's gravel race bike is actually the SuperSix SE/CX. I have one and it is amazing bike. The only thing I would change about it is I wish it had top tube bosses for a bag. I do like to do a lot of gravel races. (Although you can't call what I do racing.) The top tube bag would be handy.
GREAT content as usual Really like the way you provide informative content in a well packaged video How long will you have the TIME ADHX 45 on loan ? Testing different bikes with same wheelset and tires really is the only fair way to make proper judgements and comparisons Look foward to more in depth review on the overall performance parameters etc of this bike
First ever bike was a Time VX Special Pro. Fine riding bike but it had a design flaw! The chainstay cable guide was a peg that was different from any other bike that I’ve ever owned and came loose from the chain stay completely messing up the mechanical shifting. The amount Time wanted to fix the issue (2nd owner) was quite high so I binned the frame… If only wireless was available back then! No intentions of ever riding the brand again.
@@scottwatson7844 hard to tell without a direct comparison with the same wheels and tires. It feels and rides like a road bike, but isn't much less comfortable than a Diverge with Future Shock. I have not ridden enough different gravel bikes to be able to tell much more. Wheels and tires make a bigger impact on ride feel than a frame. I would say though, that I'd probably get another TIME when I upgrade my road bike.
I would definitely love to see more companies make smaller bikes. At 5'4" (163cm) I have a very difficult time finding bikes that actually fit, especially with short legs and stand-over of 30" (77cm). I really need to measure my reach.
my Kuota cross bike (gravel bike like hipsters would call it for reasons I will never understand…) is limited to ~45mm tires - and imo that’s absolute fine, I ride it with smaller ones. At a terrain where these tires are too small… I would ride a MTB with suspension. The obsession with ultrawide tires these days is a hipe… wait 5 years and bicycle tires are bigger than those for motorbikes - and then the marketing guys will tell the revolutionary new discovery that smaller tires are lighter, faster… and that we all have to buy the new sensational road bikes with 26.57mm tires and off road bikes („do you remember the old school gravel bikes? Hahaha…“) with 37mm tires 🙈
They need to make a slacker bike with like 50c+ clearance for gravel adventure use. Something similar to Giant Revolt. ADHX 45 just doesn't fill that niche.
Interesting bike. I reviewed it, and several other gravel bikes, to determine the specs for my new 3D printed Titanium, aero, racing gravel bike. Components and groupsets are still up in the air. Red vs Shimano or wait for the new Campagnola gravel set?? AbsoluteBlack or CeramicSpeed? So many choices. Luckily I can afford custom 3D printed wheels, handlebars, seat posts etc.
With many of the pro-gravel-racers riding 45mm plus and alot of them 2.0 at Unbound, and they wont go 650b. It's a bit "to little, to late" with the tire clearence on such a high-end racingbike?
Hi Francis, I have a quick question, you mentioned that Jimmy is 5'6" and would ride that frameset in a size small. Would you happen to know what Jimmy's inseam or tibia lengths are? Thanks, and great video as always...
Gravel starts around 45mm, below is just janky on trails. I wouldnt look at a gravel bike that isnt allowing atleast 50mm. Some nerds are even pn about 2.1 and 2.2 mtb tires being faster due to lower weight and more supple tires because at lower pressure you dont need heaby gravel casing to protect against flats as much.
Weight is such a big component in off roading, a lighter bike means you can accelerate and get up to speed much quicker. Stop start riding is prevalent in off road. Seeing Jimmi dismiss the weight so quickly (1:20) seems dumb. He always comes off as if he's "too cool" to care about metrics such as weight, always trying to be edgy. He's not as "enlightened" as he thinks he is. He even uses the word light to praise the bike (6:33), seems like that weight means a whole lot more than "nothing."

Hello, just wondering (again) why you don’t mention that Jimmy was gifted a Time frame as a disclaimer. Wouldn’t that be in line with Cade Media’s claim of being independent? But alas, you will likely not answer this comment or mention the fact. Shame.
@@gregw8120 Hey Greg, thanks for your reply. Maybe there is a slight misunderstanding. Yes, I know they say they’re “given” the bike and will then return it. What I referring to, is the fact that Jimmy was gifted a Time frame (see his Instagram). I think this fact should be communicated to the community. Take Chris Hall as an example. He is sponsored by Argon18 and will often hail it as “the best bike” etc. Also true of his previously sponsored Cervelo bike. But because that is communicated openly, viewers can take his “view” with a grain of salt and decide accordingly if they agree. So the glowing review or first looks or whatever of this bike should be given with the disclaimer, that Jimmy/Cade Media has taken a gift from the bike manufacturer. That’s just being transparent isn’t it? Also being independent was THE biggest thing that was touted when Jimmy and Emily came on board… which unfortunately doesn’t feel all that independent in this case. I’ve asked politely for feedback from Cade Media (maybe I’m wrong and am missing something?), but have received none and likely never will. And that is just rather disappointing. Anyway, thanks again though Greg. Have a great day.
I really don't get this riding mtb trails on gravel bike fad. Just do it on a mtb and have twice the fun! The only scenario where I think it's better to have a gravel bike and ride it on a mtb trail, is if you plan on cycling from your house to said mtb trails.
f you ask advanced gravel rides about aero frame, or wheels they would laugh at you. and average speeed would be 15-25km/h. What is are is for? Even road bikes, are useless in areo category, just 1-2% faster?
The fact that bike brands still does this 650b thing is so stupid. If customers want more - as in tire clearence - you don't go "we gotcha' buddy! buy this bike aaaaaaaand by a separate new 650b wheel set, and you're set!". Glad Trek listened actually with their new Checkpoint model and offers 50c as max. It's not as good as the 920 but...
One thing your recent stream of bike reviews miss is a reason why the bikes cost that much and if they're worth it. Obviously "expensive bike good", at top end pricing I'd be amazed if it was limited by anything but tire clearance and geometry, but I feel you could replace the bike with one that has the same clearance and geometry and costs 1000€ and you wouldn't need to replace any words in the review besides the one part where you directly mention the price.
