I am just so amazed to find this incredible gem. What a journalistically fantastically put together piece. You could never ever know about the whole Simon family save for one wonderful person putting it on youtube for you to discover and feast in. Amazing. In different interviews of Carly Simon and things I've read I always wondered about the Simon Sisters. And now I get to hear them. And it is so wonderful to get the context of Carly Simon - seeing her childhood life. And the three sisters. Absolutely amazing. And what an elegant mother they had. Thank you so much for posting this wonderful clip.
I’m in the midst of listening to “Boys in the Trees” audio book narrated by Carly herself. Just finished Chapter 9 and I love peaking into classic home movies of her, Joey, Lucy and their Mother. R.I.P. to Joey (Joanna) and Lucy Simon. 2 very lovely, talented ladies that passed last week. My heart goes out to sweet Carly. I can’t fathom losing both of my older sisters within a day of each other. 😢❤
I was a huge fan back in the 60's and 70's. Just kind let her drift away until just recently when I found her magic again. What a family - what an artist. Mockingbird my all time favorite. WOW!
How beautiful and so touching. What a delightful family and I've been so blessed to have contact with the very talented Lucy in the last couple of years. Her musical Dr Zhivago - A New Musical played around Australia in 2011 and was the most exquisite piece of musical theatre I've ever witnessed. I was so enthralled, I saw it four times in three weeks! Such a gifted musician/singer - they all are. Thank you so much for sharing.
So moving and heartfelt. Carly has been truly iconic for me since the mid 80's.Her poetry in lyrics is unparalleled. She's truly one of the 3 best female songwriters of ALL TIME. This video brilliantly shows us where it all came from. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖💖💖💖💖The seeds of pure love 🎼🎶💖💖💖
I just love UA-cam! I get to find out about all my favorites and see where they came from! I never knew Simon was from the Simon and Sheuster name. To see Carly’s mom in the end, and see the joy her girls bring her is priceless! Even more interesting to hear how Carly sounds like her mother and Sally sounds like Carly. Thank you for sharing with all of us❤️
Pretty strange to think that it’s been 40 years since this was filmed, and everybody is now twice as old as they were….including me! I was SO glad to hear them sing, “May the Lord Bless and Keep You” at the end. It made me wonder what church they went to. 😀 Life is short…
That is our family hymn. We always sing it when we are together. After my mother had her stroke, it really cut deep as we went outside to say goodbye to two carloads of loved siblings, all of us, mom and dad included, holding hands together in a huge circle in the yard, singing the hymn together, not knowing if it would be the last time. We couldn't finish the hymn. Too many tears. At the graveside service of my dad and two years later my mother, we were able to sing it with no stopping.
@@newlywedbeth : Wonderful story…thanks for sharing. “May the Lord Bless and Keep You” always reminds me of the big campus-wide gatherings at the college I went to. The whole crowd sang it together. It was so beautiful in 4 part harmony, sung a cappella. Always gave me chills to listen to it. For family gatherings (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter), we have always held hands before eating and sung The Doxology, instead of saying a more formal, spoken prayer (“Praise God, from whom all blessings flow”). It keeps a family close, and is great for young children to observe. 😀
I had forgotten where the Simon name came from so this helped to remind me of the whole history. So nice that the Simon sisters have a recording of their mom on her birthday to remember her by,
I have 3 sisters and they all are different yet similar in some ways. We were taught to stick together and be true to each other, since family is so important. Friends come and go but family is forever. My Mom is 93 and love her dearly and still ask her advice. Miss my Dad as well, gone 5 years.
You're welcome! I know she will have seen it but I'm going to send her the link - just to hopefully bring back some precious memories for her. The musical IS stunning! And I hear it will probably be heading to Broadway in the next year or so!! I will be flying over for it when it does, I can assure you. Thanks again!
when you have 3 sisters in a family,. your family is blessed. i'm here because Lucy and Joy just passed... one day apart of each other and now Carly is on her own. xo rip Lucy and Joy.
i never forgot that i saw this once on tv all those years ago and had always hoped to see it again. i can't believe that i remembered so much that was said in it. was it on 20/20 ?
Money doesn't buy you happily ever after. Carly's love life has been anything but a fairy tale. James Taylor was addicted to heroin and unfaithful to Carly and emotionally disengaged from their marriage. All of his self-improvement came after the divorce. Then Carly married a social climber who used her for her access to other celebrities and hid a double life of homosexual affairs from her.
Wow! Richard Simon was Carly’s father! Who knew? And her sisters were each so talented and worked at developing their talent. They didn’t just think “oh Daddy is wealthy so ….”. Very impressive family!

That's lovely of you to say. Thank you!
Especially sad watching this now that both of Carly's sisters passed. It's wonderful that they had each other and were so close.❤️❤️
Carly, if you're reading this, we love you and feel your sadness. Your family is our family!
An example of a loving family that nurtured and shared their talents with the world and didn’t fall to the perils of the world.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your Sisters, Dear Carly. As always, though more so than I can express, You, Yours & Ours remain in My Prayers.
What a great family life Carly and the rest of the kids had, rich caring parents and a good education really do make a difference. TheReaper!
Carly’s book reveals pain and secrets and a not all shiny upbringing.

R.I.P. Joanna and Lucy. You were amazing and unforgettable. You are, actually. ❤️🧡💛
Very nice & informative to hear about Carly's family history...
I'm learning everyday about carly, then this turns up it's amazing and I'm 59.
I love this. It gives a clear picture of them together. I am currently reading Carly's book, Boys in the Trees. It's excellent.
+Michele Dillard It's a brilliant Memoir. After reading the book I listened to Carly read it via the audiobook... which takes it to a whole new level.
+Michele Dillard Yep, I am reading it also, on Audible. It is excellent.
me too
I have been dying to see this again , thank you
So lovely. Thank you for posting.

awwwww....the part at the end was so sweet, touching.
This video is so touching. A loving family as it should be.
Carlys music 🎶 is very relaxing!!! AND SEEMS LIKE A EXCELLENT PERSON!!!
The mother has a Katherine Hepburnish look about her...almost look like sisters.
Absolutely! My first thought.
Every one says that
It is wonderful, thank you. I love the Simon siblings, award-winners all. How I would love to have a cd of Lucy's three-part harmony recordings!
God bless the simon sisters
Two Sisters passed away last week a day apart
JUST UNBELIEVABLE UNBEARABLE GRIEF💔😞💔
WOW. That is so Awesome.
Love Carly teaching the school kids. Note how she holds the guitar and how she strums--good reminder on really the correct way to do it. . . .
They have lovely voices.

RIP Lucy & Joanna.
Beautiful sisters and mom!
Sad to know now that only Carly Simon is the surviving member of this family.
A talented family for sure and the baby, Carly, grew up to be the biggest talent of all and will likely be long remembered over all of them.
I am glad that all the sisters are close.
She was always my favorite singer and songwriter.
lucy had one of the most beautiful voices ive ever heard
Thanks Jeni! I've heard Lucy's Zhivago is stunning! Thanks for the info!
Just tripped onto this . Fascinating.
a wonderful family
You're welcome, 7jackman! Glad you enjoyed it!
originally telecast in May 1981- this is a slightly re-edited version that was telecast in 1982.
RIP to Lucy and Joanna.
when you have 3 sisters in a family,. your family is blessed. i'm here because Lucy and Joy just passed... one day apart of each other and now Carly is on her own. xo rip Lucy and Joy.

An Era. Of da greatest. Music. Ever in America. Ever. John Denver. Folk. Greatest Era!!! How. Can we ever see. Anything greater!!!???
Wow
Her Mom sounds like Katherine Hepburn.
i never forgot that i saw this once on tv all those years ago and had always hoped to see it again. i can't believe that i remembered so much that was said in it. was it on 20/20 ?
Lucy sounds so much like Carly, in how her sound radiates in her head. She has a very beautiful bright tone.
Such astute parenting, lovely to see and a gift to experience.
Happy birthday mama.
Carly apple and dad !!! It's all there!
Carly looks like her mother.
Sister Joanna looks like Loni Anderson
The mom resembled Katharine Hepburn.
Yes
People mistook her for Hepburn all the time
We have that garden setting.
What a wonderful life . I have to say I am a little jealous of fairy 🧚♀️ tale lives . I had no idea . Learn something new every day on UA-cam.

Read Boys in the Trees - not at all what you think. 📗🌳😔Love the sister relationship they have.
wow
Carly looks so much like her Dad.
They all look so much older than their actual age at that time. The brother, my word. he looks at least 40. The mother looks like 80.
When Carley was teaching that Class that girl looked like the girl from Dirty Dancing at a young age ...
All the other stuff is twaddle...it's her voice that made her a star. It's unique and undeniable.
It has to be a very happy house before music can be made. If I am not happy I don't listen to music.
Who was Jessie? Anyone else want to know??? One great song!
Carly is such a friggin fox
Carly is a knockout!!
Seems like a blessed and very fortunate family. Wish I could be in it, lol! Ideal. But why don't they talk about the brother?
well the article said it was about the sisters...
I'd rather be Carly.
She is so very Alive.❤
Lucy went into nursing what happened? I thought she was going to be a nurse
I always doubt when a family is so " perfect". I know my own so called perfect family too well. 😂
they are jews
@@AL-PAKA mom was catholic
I'll bet their brother has felt left out his whole life.
Wow! Richard Simon was Carly’s father! Who knew? And her sisters were each so talented and worked at developing their talent. They didn’t just think “oh Daddy is wealthy so ….”. Very impressive family!
Thanks so much westlinngirl. Check out my channel for hundreds of Carly 'You Tube' uploads. Carly rocks!
All her siblings died of cancer. Carly survived hers.
Those sisters look nothing alike
Such a talented family!
Adoro Carli Joana e Luci tenho que falar Engels entendo pouco I LOVE
i think carly ànd lucy look like
Gawd opera is awful
No it’s not
Joanna Simon (1937 - 2022)
Lucy Simon (1940 - 2022)
What a lovely family.
They are the ideal New England rich and quasi-bohemian family.
Everyone’s ideal.
