  • A short video restoring the swing arm.
I didn't realize just how bad the swing arm was in until I started making the beginning of this video...wow. Not only were the bearings totally shot, the battery vent hose had been routed wrong causing acid to spill onto the frame and top of the swing arm.
It's come a long way - from sandblasting down to the bare metal, fresh paint and much needed bearings and seals. The pivot pins were all good so at least I got to reuse them. The new lock washer on the left side finally arrive so that was installed and the pivot bolts torqued.
When I was preparing to pull the bearings/races out, I was ready for the worst. Turns out everything popped out just fine and went back in without a hitch. Since I don't have a race seating tool, using the old races (cut a slot in the old race - it comes out easier) made things go quite easy.
Proud of my home-made decals as well.

Why did you cut a slot in the bearing race at 7:10?

I should have mentioned that in the video - that's the old race that I removed. I'm using it as a tool to push the new one down since I don't have the $75 race insertion tool. If I didn't cut the slot in it, it would be really hard to get it out after seating the new race in as the new race sits down inside the face pretty deep. Cutting a slot just means my new tool comes out much easier after I tap the new race down. I didn't do it for the left side because I could get a punch in and tap the old race out.
      I hope that makes sense.

Thanks! I'm still a total UA-cam noob but I'm trying to make this whole process easy on the eyes.
