- Roman houses were full of fascinating design concepts and innovative technology. Most of them had courtyards with water features where all the excess water was routed to underground cisterns to be used throughout the home.
What would a contemporary Roman house look like that carries over the some of the main features of the traditional houses? That's what we'll look at with this Roman House Design concept.

I love the idea of a courtyard house. Been looking for inspo for my future home. I like the idea of a pool in the courtyardbut would also love the idea of rooftop garden from your previous courtyard design. I also love the small garden courtyard style that would house my precious orchids.
Glad you like different aspects of each house design! The challenge with putting lots of courtyards within a house design is that it becomes a puzzle where you need to balance interior and exterior spaces. Figuring out how to organize courtyard homes is a fun process. Good luck with your future courtyard home design!

Spanish homes often have a courtyard sometimes in the middle of the house
I've seen Spanish homes with courtyards at the center and I love the furniture setup that focuses on gathering and hanging out as a family

Probably rich Romans, likely not as rich as you need now to be to build this. Still I love it.
Yeah in the past, most Romans who owned homes were wealthy. It was really interesting learning about the different social levels and houses as part of the culture
Yes, most city-dwelling Romans lived in apartment buildings several stories in height. There were courtyards but it was a communal kitchen area as apartments couldn't have kitchens of their own. If a Roman family was fairly well off but not corporate billionaire wealthy, they might live in a smaller house with a small yard in the back, like a walled in garden.
how does someone go about finding an architect in their area who specializes in this type of work? I love the concept of a courtyard in the house and want to find an architect who can help build something like this one day. I just watched a few of your videos and love the concepts, would be awesome to work with someone to bring my dream home to life.
Thank you! Most architects can probably design a courtyard house. Finding one that specializes in it will take time, but I think if you asked a local architect, they can probably connect you with one who can share examples of their work and hopefully work with you on your custom house design!
@@Tim_Ung thanks Tim! I've got a rough sketch I did by hand. I need to find some floorplan software to turn it into a digital option. I've got a bit of time before I can get going but I'll keep your reply in mind and give myself even longer to find an architect

This house design is large - roughly 8,000 gross square feet including the courtyards and about 7,000sq ft without them.
