Congratulations! I wish you all the best on the way, so you can eventually make it a full time job. Slightly more, than two years ago, I also planned to make this a full time job, but unfortunately some bad happenings forced me to drop those plans. Currently I'm trying at least to make my videos regularly again and just as you said, it takes huge amount of time ;) I also can't just take my raw footage and drop it together, my workshop doesn't allow such an approach. Well, once again, best wishes and a lot of success!

I also coined with the idea, but, at least for my channel, it's simply not feasible. Maybe if I moved to the middle of nowhere but it would be a very frugal and shoestring life. Although I pay taxes, so from that point if view it is a business pretty much, it really is still just a hobby and really don't want the pressure of performing regularly. Going part-time plus UA-cam is more feasible, it keeps you connected with the real world and stability. I wish everyone the best that goes full-time but I wouldn't recommend it.
Yes, I see what you mean. The pressure of "I have to make the next video" is here already :) I see UA-cam as part of my activities. If it could help a bit - rather than cost money - why not. Anyways, I try to enjoy it. The support I am getting from the audience is enough to motivate me :)

It sounds like listening to my own story, and Patreon could turn UA-cam into your new real job, but if you have alternatives, it's better because working for UA-cam isn't easy. As your subscribers increase, the workload becomes more and more significant. Good luck with the channel; your videos are enjoyable and interesting. You're one of the very few channels I follow.
Thank you Marco, I totally see what you mean. It's tough already and I can only imagine what it can become. A "fun tough" though. I still remember when you were making fun of your previous job on one of your videos ("non va bene, rifallo!") and it's nice to be in charge of yourself. Though it's also nice to have a salary at the end of the month regardless!

Hey Tony, congrats on hitting 20K, you've earned every sub.
Your self criticising about how some people are able to film what they do and pretty much have a complete video with minimal editing is unnecessary. The vast majority of people don't edit their videos and the quality lacks.
Some people over edit and miss key information or parts of their journey which is equally a shame. I've commented on a few of your other videos and often mentioned you do a great job of your editing. You come across as sincere, when you make mistakes you don't edit them out and on top of that, your videos tend to flow logically and make sense. Your content is fine as it is and it got you this far.
The key to success long term on YT is to be consistent with your schedule and reasonably frequent. If you're not doing UA-cam full time and keeping it as a passion then you'll continue to grow slowly and consistently as time goes on. My recommendation is to not turn a hobby you love into a chore.
Anyway, I watch your videos because its a niche I enjoy and you have a good attitude, explain your reasoning and you're not afraid to make mistakes. I watch a whole ton of people in the electronics niche, so Sorin, yourself, Branchus creations and a few others and I'd say your videos tend to be the most professionally edited. You're doing just great.

2008 US Recession ended my career path. I discovered age discrimination on a large scale. Feel your pain. Short-term smaller jobs sporadically since. Only advice I can offer, is that nothing worth pursuing ever comes easy and knowledge is power. Basketball Hero Michael Jordan use to say, "Yes, I have great eye-hand coordination, but knowing more than anyone else in the game is how I stay on top." Best Wishes and Good Luck!

I know what you mean about not being able to do something you don't enjoy. There are elements of my job that I do not like and, being experienced, I normally had those things pushed on me more than I could stand. In 2011 I had the choice to leave my industry or go self employed. As a freelance I can't choose when I work, but I can choose when I don't and that gave me the ability to have another decade of not telling my employers where to shove their ideas. 🤣
It has been a scary ride, especially through 2020 with all that, but not a day I've had where I regretted my decision. The freedom and flexibility means you can tailor-make your solutions to any problem and it becomes more about the journey rather than the destination.

Your videos are all excellent Tony! Thank you for putting so much time in to making them. I found the alternating camera angles slightly odd in this videos though; you talking to us but not looking at the camera felt off for whatever reason. Maybe that's just me!
I thought I saw it on TV sometimes - just to alternate the view a bit or it gets boring. But I am not an expert when it comes to studio shooting so I believe you when you say it was a bit off :) It was a test! :) Thanks for your comment!

congratulations on 20k! the only comment I have is that the music you use on your videos is kinda cheesy and a tad annoying when it's playing om the background all the time. but besides that, which I might be the only one complaining about it, I really like your content. No, you're not the only one mentioning that - though I lowered it in level some time ago and I haven't got further mention on the subject. I do hear you - the think is that I really like some music in the background! I guess I could experiment a bit.
Unfortunately I have to use Royal Free music and most of it is a bit cheesy! :) A youtuber friend of mine used some allegedly free music from a website (which was great!), the website then changed their mind and claimed buckets of money on all their previous videos. So the music HAS to come from UA-cam free music library - or I pay for it :)

Your Production and Editing capabilities are already excellent, so you don't need much more practice, unless it is in shortening the amount of time you spend on it, which we viewers don't see. But thank you, and best wishes with your Patreon endeavours!
Thank you! Well it's a mixture of "wanting to do more" and also the "wanting to do faster". What I end up doing is to "add new things" - when I added the "picture in picture", that doubled/tripled the workflow and also the workload on my PC as when editing the system has to decode and display up to THREE streams simultaneously. The recent move to 4K overhead video didn't help either. Then I started tinkering with Fusion...
But that's what I like. It'd be boring if it was simple! :)

I ended up here from your post on the stardot forums after reading about your adventures with an Acorn AKF12 monitor repair, as I'm going through the same issues you experienced. Thank you for producing great content, keep up the great work!
Thank you - I think I read your post just yesterday (I still need to sort the notifications on stardot!). Same symptoms, same PSU lines halved. At least the flyback is still available - though the one I got seemed to be faulty. Well, I'll never know the fate of that monitor apparently... I hope you can fix it. A ring tester is not telling all the truth but if you're nearby and want to test, you're welcome. Or if you want one of the leftover PCBs.
@@tony359 I was curious to know what the cause of the later fault was after your first repair, as I didn't want to potentially miss something. I have a flyback on order, from the same supplier in fact and I've previously used them without any issues for other parts. Unfortunately I'm a bit far to pop by, but if you're sure about a spare ring tester PCB, that would be amazing, thank you and it'd be interesting to compare results.
