Obviously, that's Bruce Beresford, who's got two Oscar nods. One, for writing "Breaker Morant"
in 1981 and two, for directing "Tender Mercies" in 1984. That's all there is to it.

Jessica Tandy is synonym of great acting, be it on stage or on film. How wonderful to have been able to catch glimpses of her immense talent in a few films. I saw her on stage once doing the famous "candle" monologue from A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and in three minutes she had the whole audience in tears. A great actress, a great lady. Too bad that she and her other great fellow actors are gone now.

Ricardo Bigi I have always regretted I was born too late to see Tandy create Blanche du Bois. It is a sin and a shame that she was not cast in the film version. I also deeply regret not having seen her Cordelia to Gielgud's Lear, not to mention her creation of Agnes in Albee's A Delicate Balance, a role in which she was again passed over for the film version.

Wow I was disappointed & SHOCKED!!!!

Such an incredible career yet not often talked about. Multiple Tony awards including as the original Blanche Dubois in a Street Car named Desire opposite Marlon Brando in his breakout performance. Performed alongside the greatest ever Hamlet, Sir John Gielgud, and the greatest ever Henry V, Sir Laurence Olivier. Shame theatre shows were not filmed back then so a wider audience could now appreciate her body of work.

Isabelle Adjani probably really gave the best performance out of the five nominated (it certainly was the most challenging role out of the nominees... though I personally didn't like Camille Claudel). But I LOVE the selection of Tandy anyway, and I loved Driving Miss Daisy.

Agreed. It was a tour de force, though not entirely untread emotional territory for her, sharing more than a little similarity with L'histoire d"Adele H.

I was lucky enough to have seen her in The Gin Game and Glass Menagerie on Bway. But my greatest theatre moment ever was at a memorial service for Tennessee Williams at the Shubert Theatre in NY where Jessica Tandy lost 30 yrs. in a split second and became Blanche Dubois delivering a monologue from Streetcar. The only true spontaneous standing ovation I have ever witnessed occured the split second she finished! Truly amazing!

She is very much missed and was a very beautiful woman both in her youth and as she aged so gracefully. As a fellow Brit, her taking her talents from her beginnings in London across the pond where she became an icon of Hollywood Cinema really make me proud.
Driving Miss Daisy was one of those films I saw as a kid that stayed with me for life.

Jessica Tandy is a legendary actress. Her body of work is amazing and this Oscar win topped off a stellar career! Her portrayal of Blanche Dubois in "A Streetcar named Desire" was so powerful and even Karl Malden who was also in the Broadway production said in an interview that he always felt Jessica was a better Blanche than Vivien Leigh. But often in Hollywood it's a marquee name that often dictates if a movie is made so it's wonderful seeing this well deserved moment again..
