They soundchecked with this one in Amsterdam when we were support. There was just one guy in the middle of the venue when they did this. It was me.One of the best damn memories of my life.
This is music. Pure harmony, pure emotion that melts you and gives you goosebumps all over. Thank you for making this masterpiece and for being important part of my teenage years. And still now.
They were stunning. I adored their first two albums so so much. Creation was my label of choice from 1990 to 1995. Ride. MBV. Boo Radleys. JAMC ( a bit earlier). Oasis. Such a truly special era and label for us discerning indie pop kids. But fuck me, Ride, when on form, beat them all with ease. Now sitting in a business lounge in Frankfurt airport with my headphones on, surrounded by suits ( i have jeans and docs, still) and being sweetly transported to a different place. Thanks lads.
Saw Ride in Bristol just before Nowhere came out, hadn't heard Polar Bear and when they played it I was mesmerised! A shimmering wall of sound and harmonies. Ride were just unbelievable live
Ride and Swervedriver did/do the coolest things with guitars. Caught Swervedriver in 2015, hopefully I'll be able to catch Ride someday. Two seriously overlooked bands.
Man swervedriver, used to listen to them on my brick sized Walkman as I bombed around my estate on my skateboard, haha happy days, youtubin "raise" for sure...cheers pal
I heard this song for the first time 12 years ago and thought “This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard, It will take a long time before I hear something that will sound this great” Well 12 years later and i’m still looking for something to hit me the way this song did when I first heard it, This album and song are special.
I'm 21. I'm so glad to see Ride are getting the respect they always deserved right now in 2015. Sell out gigs everywhere, lots of people my age from the new generation turning up at gigs :)
Such amazing drumming. My favourite three drummers from the past 25+ years are Reni (who doesn't love him?), Jimmy Chamberlain and Mr Colbert here. Reason I love Laurance Colbert so much is that he manages to combine the sweet fluidity of Reni with the 'all round the kit' jazziness and power of Jimmy Chamberlain. He is a master musician.
She knew she was able to fly because when she came down She had dust on her hands from the sky, she said I touched a cloud She felt so high, the dust made her cry She knew she could fly like a bird but when she said... 'Please raise the roof higher' nobody heard they never noticed a word The light bulbs burn, her fingers will learn Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah... Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah... Why should it feel like a crime? If I want to be with you all the time... why is it measured in hours? You should make your own time, You're welcome in mine.... she knew she was able to fly because when she came down she had dust from her hands on the sky, she said I touched a cloud her fingers will learn, the lightbulbs burn Ah, ah-ah, ah-ah...
Unplayed at tonight's gig supporting Mogwai at the Hydro (Dec 2017) - but remembered as gig opener at the QM Glasgow (Nov 1990 ?) Great song - a band born to play live.
Just imagine how good you must be to sound that awesome with your debut album? I know many artists knock it out of the park with their debut , but it's still a rare thing.
So many people liked to slag them off back in the day. Made them feel big, I guess. The more fool them, hearing Ride is like discovering a completely new band years down the line.
Any variation of this album cover with text on it is a travesty. The whole point of the cover is that the wave is everything and nothing/all that matters/beyond words/etc.
Idg why people hate on Ride so much,i mean i get its kinda broey and the subversive element of shoegaze with androgeny or whatever, but the genre never avoided hevay elements either being verymuch as much an extreme genre as Punk,Industrial,or Metal were Nd verymuch within the sphere. Ride had some hard fucking riffs and i dont think that can be dennied. Catherine Wheel i think get discounted when they shouldn't be within the sphere similarly.
First verse: "She had dust on her hands from the sky" Second verse: "She had dust from her hands on the sky" Did he make a mistake on the second line? If not, it reads/sounds kinda awkward to me.
Well, the first time she flew she touched a cloud, and got dust on her hands. Then later, she took that dust, and flew up into the sky, and touched it, which made a cloud, which is proof that she flew, because how else would the dust that she had on her hands gotten up into the sky.
@@chemicalrory She didn't have the dust anymore. She had proof. Proof that she flew, because the dust that was on her hands is now up in the sky. That's how she knew she could fly. Either that, or she just just imagined it when she was really high. I'm not the one who is going to tell a Polar Bear they can't fly.
@@POPNDOUGH It's not the jist of the story that's confusing, by the way, it's simply "She HAD dust FROM her hands ON THE SKY" sounds weird. If he said "left" rather than "had" it'd read less like he just got the words from the first verse round the wrong way.
Yeah, it's drugs. Touching the sky when getting high and all that good stuff. But the name of the song is telling - Polar Bear - White - Cocain/Amphetamine
I like the message behind this song. Polar Bears have a strong connotation with the Arctic and therefore, it makes the listener think about the ozone layer. It's good to see bands like Ride creating awareness of global warming.

Saw Ride and Lush at the end of a hot summer day in Dallas. One peak of an era. In life terms anyway. : )
You’re lucky. Lush are amazing
"Why should it feel like a crime,
If I want to be
With you all the time?"
The drumming on this is insane

she knew she was able to fly - that’s when I start sobbing every single time lol
I’m so glad this piece of art was created!
I appreciate the fact that Ride didn't do videos but this song so deserved some visual accompaniment :o
they made videos for the entire "Today Forever" EP
I see a choir or the band playing in a open cathedral while a heart pulsates (a grainy or 8 mm feel to the video).
Kinda cool that they didn't.

im 44 and can tell you they had a huge amount of respect and love right from their beginning in the UK.

drummer = backbone.. quite a few "shoegaze" drummers are very good. like Neil Sims of Catherine Wheel. and Jon Brookes (RIP) of the Charlatans.
Also a lovely guy too!
Check out Damon Che from Don Caballero. Prepare to have your mind blown

I Migliori.Una band visionaria che ha aperto a nuovi suoni musicali ripresi poi da altri gruppi come i Nirvana , Oasis etc etc
How time flies! Saw them around 91/92 at Leeds Uni, a cracking band back in the day. Good to hear they are still at it.
was that with verve as support band? great gig
Town and country club way back ….. great gig….still love it now….
Reminds me of the Smiths…Morrissey…that opening chord with tremolo 😅
Morrissey never composed any music. He just wrote and sung lyrics.
In my top 10 tray of all time total genius

Loved this band back in the late 80's early 90's
I have loved this song, the minute I heard it, from my first true love, Marcus boylen,R.I.P❤
I mean....it just makes me feel like I could actually DIE of happiness listening to it....
Agreed.

Que exelente banda!!
This incredible song deserves to be at least 10+ minutes longer
The best indie band to come out of oxford in the early 90's who's name begins with the letter 'R'.
chetkayeable hehe nice try, i love both equally . rideohead
Well yeah but Radiohead is better
You mean shoegaze
@@mahmudulhasan5736 Matter of opinion brother. Although Radiohead are great.

breathtaking melody. 1991 like yesterday
The beginning melody is similar to Take a Picture by Filter. Ride influenced so many but get such little credit.

just beautiful
RIDE////do not compare them with other bands that's an insult! They stand alone in their company like many others....
Temazo! Love shoegaze
una de las mejores canciones de nowhere
re-release this song please. it is amazing!💕
Fantastic.
Why should it feel like a crime
If I want to be with you all the time?

Can’t wait to see you.

In terms of their knack for harmony, melody, dynamics and musical talent, Ride smoked every other shoegaze band of that era
First verse: "She had dust on her hands from the sky"
Second verse: "She had dust from her hands on the sky"
