Gregory Alexander he is your right but what he's really doing is calling out the the individuals that put into positions to avoid and take care of problems meaning Congress people local politicians and so on
As a born (1950) and raised west Baltimorean, this video is really sad for me to see. I loved growing up in the city back then, playing in Leakin Park and going on shopping trips to the big department stores downtown, and have many fond memories of living along Edmondson and Frederick Aves. from Poplar Grove St. to Edmondson Village and Irvington. I developed a love of the city's rowhouse architecture at an early age. Sadly, a lot of architectural gems have been lost to the bulldozer. On Google Maps I see houses are now missing along the street I lived on in the last neighborhood I lived in before a job transfer out of Baltimore in 1979 - Irvington. Seems that's the city's method of dealing with any vacant houses now, no matter how nice they still might be. I know Baltimore has lost a lot of industrial employers since the 1950s which has greatly contributed to the population loss, unemployment, and vacant house problem. It is noteworthy that even in the blighted blocks shown in this video, you still see some homes that are nicely maintained in the row which tells me there's people still living there who care about their houses and neighborhood, and try to take care of them like us older Baltimoreans did. The construction detail work in many of these houses would cost a fortune to duplicate today, if you could even find the materials and craftspersons to replace them exactly as first built.
What this video shows is true, but what is not often told is that 90% of the beat up houses are owned by outsiders. A look at the MD State property assessment web shows the owners. The owners are: 1. Baltimore City government, as property owners will walk away from the house once the value of renting is played out. The city cannot afford to rehab so they bulldoze and give away to mega corps who promise to build their own mega corps on the land. (Bio Park) but often do not pay taxes. 2. Relatives of the previous owner who now live in the leafy burbs and rent the house, but do no repairs. 3. Mega institutions, like Hopkins Hospital and Uni of MD who own the property so in the future they can bulldoze and expand their death star. 4. Bottom feeding slumlord, who live elsewhere. Often hiding as LLC's 5. A tiny amount are owned by those who have gone to nursing homes, or died and the property is in "probate". 6. An equally tiny number of owner-occupied who's bought decades ago and the are just holding on. 7 Then there is a newer owner, who is a growing sector. Often from another country, often living in the suburbs, owning boarded up houses, which have been boarded up for years, sit on them, then sell to another immigrant for a much higher rate then the comps for the neighborhood.
That's something that always gets me - how these slumlords get away with letting their houses crumble away in the city. In 1976, my mother and I pooled our money to buy a 3-story duplex house on S. Augusta Ave. in Irvington that was set up for two apartments which needed some work. We weren't in the house one month when the city taped a notice on our front door about past due housing code violations and told us we had 30 days to make repairs or else. The previous owners had actually received the prior notices but were so irrisponsible (got mixed up into drug use) they just tossed them away and it was never disclosed to us at settlement. I probably could have sued them for failure to disclose the notices, but they most likely took the sale money and went on one long drug trip with it. Anyway, I called the city and explained the situation, to which they gave me more time. But they kept checking on progress until all repairs were made to their satisfaction. The previous owners also didn't disclose the roof needing replacement. A day after we moved in it rained and water was dripping in the ceiling upstairs. Roof repairs set us back another $2000 that we had to borrow. Guess I just didn't have the right connections with the city that a slumlord has to get away with code violations the way they do.
My parents would get mad at my brother and I if we threw trash in the yard or left our toys all strung out all over the sidewalk or yard. They said it looked bad and that you can tell a lot about ppl by the way their yard looked. If the yard is trashed, can you imagine what the house looks like? Not always true, but 95% it's pretty accurate.
What does it tell you when the greatest congregation of people take place by a liquor store. Things will never change in these places until self-discipline is taught within the home. It's a little tough to start at first, but the rewards last a lifetime.....
This is just sheer laziness. Its like instead of standing around like they do, actually pick up around the city. They expect the government to do everything for them
Absolutely. But when you do good over and over and over again, only to see on your way home , someone dump their mcdonalds lunch trash out of their window onto the ground you and countless others spent 18 hours sweeping liter off of.... you stop trying, stop giving a damn, and put yourSELF in a position to leave and NEVER EVER look back. (One just ONE sad example out of MANY) Sometimes i look at cities like this (i live here btw.. Born and raised- left for 7 years and came back for some STUPID reason) and i really begin to question God. The universe. Whomever you believe in.. i mean is this IT for us (them because im getting tf out) are we being punished for something, is there any hope.. why continue to try? They need to condem the whole place. Rats and mice EVERYWHERE.. i could go on. Smh

Baltimore is one of the ugliest towns I have ever seen....all these connected houses (huge fire hazards or what??) built right to the sidewalks with no grass no trees. It's horrid. Whoever designed Baltimore had their head where the sun doesn't shine!
This is how townhouses used to be built, from centuries ago. Yes, these are old homes. Some built in the early 1800's. You can see this style all over europe. They don't have to be depressing if they are fixed up. Yes, they should plant trees. Street trees really change the vibe.
The link below shows row houses in San Francisco, where rich white people live. They are priced around $800,000 each. See how nice they are when they are fixed up. In Baltimore, the problems are due to racial discrimination, lack of jobs, and poverty. Solve those problems and Baltimore's row houses would be as nice as in San Francisco. People want to fix their homes up, but if you can't find a job, you can't do it. www.flickr.com/photos/40083599@N04/43597997202
Honestly, I was charmed by the houses! they look so nice. But, of course, every house needs to be looked after. and most of them are abandonded. Of course, having grass and trees would have been much better, but the houses in themselves are lovely. Much much better than modern blocks of flats. Just have a look at typical architecture of the 80-90ies of the ex USSR (the good things is that there are lots of trees in Russia, almost everywhere). at 1:27-1:30 the show the view from the window of the central hotel, i.e. downtown ua-cam.com/video/aZquy98ve8A/v-deo.html

When you have BMWs, Mercedes, Porsche's, etc in those neighborhoods, it's obvious those cars belong to drug kingpins & pimps. And nobody messes with their cars & homes. I was going to a major hospital once in Newark, NJ. The whole area looked like what's in the video. And what did I see? A Ferrari. It was obvious the car belonged to a feared drug lord. The construction detail work in many of these houses would cost a fortune to duplicate today, if you could even find the materials and craftspersons to replace them exactly as first built.
i know how the neighborhood deteriorated from that part of town used to be safe what happened
What this video shows is true, but what is not often told is that 90% of the beat up houses are owned by outsiders. A look at the MD State property assessment web shows the owners.
The owners are:
Often hiding as LLC's

Miah Leissa yo me these houses are beautifull, they are very old, more than we think. Tartarian buildings , mudflooded
There is trees but its the fall so theres no leaves.

I’d like to see what the same neighborhoods looked like in 1920.
"When you walk through the garden
You gotta watch your back
Well I beg your pardon
Walk the straight and narrow track
If you walk with Jesus
He's gonna save your soul"
"You gotta keep the devil.......way doooooooown in the hole."
YO, OMAR'S COMIN'!!
HAHA
Lmao! So many scenes of the wire flashbacks
I’m weak
OMAR IS DEAD!
I have strolled pass almost 50 comments and finally got a The Wire reference
All the factories and car maker's went overseas and left Baltimore high and dry. Its not even the people's fault. There's no work.
Good to see some one has understanding
That's not the entire story, but def a good place to start and also plays a major part in what were seeing here.
As someone born in Baltimore,I should know
So they need to get outta there and reinvent themselves I did
@@dbrown9495 That’s simplifying it but it sure didn’t help

Damn, Bmore is fucked up. I say Philly, Detroit, Camden, and Bmore are the worst looking cities that you’ve done so far. Honorable mentions are ATL and Newark.
NOLA we know this.
I was tryna figure out where you was coming from on Atlanta video saying Atl,detroit & philly was top 3...south hoods look nothing like up north concrete jungles (not a diss)
fucking Democrats
NOLA you can’t include ATL in there cmon, wb Gary n shit those places look way worse, ATL doesn’t even look bad, Memphis looked worse if we’re lookin for a south city
thatGuyQuincy That’s true. Up north hoods got those old concrete homes with no yards, but there’s typically more violence that happens in the south
Crunc DuBois I didn’t think Gary looked too bad but you’re right, Memphis does look more fucked up than ATL but I was strictly talking about the video footage that Charlie posts. He didn’t get footage of Memphis worst looking hoods but filmed some of ATL’s worst looking hoods.
The cobbled streets in one area describe how upscale the neighborhood once was
Stores that sell plywood must be doing well.
They used to scrub the steps in the row houses in B-more. That's what they were famous for. White gleaming steps. Eventually white left.

In France, we have the exact same shit. And they call us "the country of the Human rights" yeah... right.
Robert Bidochon That's again where Blacks and Muslims leave.
@@Batman-wv5ng No, that's where French rulers have neglected to take care of. Yet, urban decay in France has not caught on as well as in the USA. No comparison.
The country of "human rights" as a whorehouse is a house of virtue.
@@alphonsozorro7952 Most of America is not like inner city Baltimore.
Even the trees want to die
Drugs, laziness, stupidness, not serious about studying. Not wanting to improve lives, blaming the system, blaming other races, this is the effect on the whole community and neighbourhood
