You using 12kw a day, so at R12000 this year and will increase into the future at average of 15% per year, after 5 years the cost would be R24,136 per year, making a spend on electricity in the next 5 year at R105044. For that money you can get 2 10kw batteries, inverter, and 10x 550w solar panels(that would give 50-70kw per day). To match what you use you probably only need 1 battery, 6 panels and a 5kw inverter to be fully off grid, so for half the money she'd spend in the next 5 years she could be totally offgrid with solar at only 2.5 years ROI comparative to eskom connection and have no loadshedding and have no cost after 2.5 years and in fact most batteries are warrantied 10-20 years, panels the same, so you would have quite a lot of runway into the future, in fact the ROI at 10 years where the system cost R50k and total electricity spend at 10 years with average increase would be R292,188, that would make 292,188/50000= 5.84376 times ROI over 10 years, just saying think with your head for the future.

You are so smart. Are you some kind of risk strategist, mathematical wiz or risk management economist? Bcos this is your analysis, is top-notch🙌🏾
Thanks for the insight. I will definitely look into this option. It makes a better long-term sense🙌🏾

@@Prizzygat No, I am a computer scientist specializing in Artificial intelligence and process automation, I did my own solar system as it's not rocket science. Just keep in mind I excluded labor and miscellaneous parts costs as it differs between contractors, but shouldn't be an issue when comparing what you save over the coming years.
I have no loadshedding at all, and people living close to me constantly come to me when they have no power to use wifi or charge their laptops/phones to work. Nothing feels better to take back the control of your own electricity supply and not having outages nearly every day. The technology is there for people to use in SA and the costs have dropped substantially in recent years to the point it's cheaper to have solar. I also got a borehole and collect rain water to have control of my water supply, if I lived on a farm/plot I'd have also done my own sewage via a sump system. We have all the technology in 2024 to not rely on the government for most services.
