pretty much everyone in the offgrid RV space is going to tell you to replace the fridge for a home unit($300-$500) because those things are the worst but you could try to see if you have good ventilation on your coils, if the heat cant escape the fridge wont be as efficient and remain on. You are correct, home fridges that size will sip about 100w-130w

I'm living off solar as well, but I do occasionally top off the batteries with a generator during long periods of cloud. My solar charge controllers have temperature sensors that will stop charging when it's too cold. What type of controller are you using?

My charge controller is a 40 amp MPPT I can't remember the brand off the top my head I do have a temperature sensor probe that goes with it, but I don't have it hooked up at this point. I will play with it when it gets real cold in the fall of the year. Thank you for reminding me about that because kind of forgot I had one. Great idea! As for running my generator in my motorhome, I normally do not run it to charge my batteries I use it to run heavy loads when the batteries are low. Check real good around the door seal on your fridge. Mine had been gobbling up power and also began freezing up. The door was tweaked. Since I fixed it. No more freeze ups. Definitely less power usage. Also I switched my set up to 24volts with a pure sine wave inverter. 24 volt Definitely is a worthwhile upgrade.

@@charlesvawter1527 I run my fridge solely on the 24volt inverter and have a separate battery for the trailer which only runs lights and a 12v power socket. All separate. Just a regular lead/acid battery for that. I changed all my lights to leds so even a junkie battery will do. Also if you do use more 12volt they make some cheap buck converters that will kick down the voltage from 24 to 12 so you can still use your existing power inverters. I think you'll be happy if you make the jump to 24v. Better conversion rate off of the panels and from the inverter to the appliances (aka that fridge). It is a mild addiction solar is. Just keep adding to your system and see where it takes you.

@@charlesvawter1527 you'll get there. I started with single panel and small lead acid truck battery. Before I got past 2 panels it was like a glorified phone charger lol! Random word of mention......mobility scooters can have some decent batteries. They may not have the amperage to run big things but for led lights,tv,phone and whatever small things they good enough for that. I just stumbled across one. It had actual Gel cell batteries. They was at less then a volt. I cycled them for days just to bring the charge up. I am in the second proper cycle for Gel cells go to 14.2 then discharge to 11.4 which is about 11.2 due to voltage sag. They are different the agm or other lead acid batteries. This is my first experience with the Gel cells.
That style fridge requires continuous heat to work, the heat can come from propane or an electric heating element, they don't cycle on and off just on. Compressor style fridge will cycle on and off, you have an absorption style fridge.

@@rclewis01 good afternoon friend, thank you for your comments. I have a disagreeable with you about getting rid of it it's an RV refrigerator which runs on 120 volts or propane. It works perfectly well on propane and I never plug it in to shore power. On a sunny day I have plenty of solar power to plug into. When I do this it runs for free! If it were to bite the dust, I would replace it, but until then it works perfectly well. They are bit pricey about $2,000.
