I have always felt that the hooks on a rattletrap, regardless of size, have always been too small. I lost a really nice musky this past weekend because the musky managed to get off of the hooks on the rattletrap.

    Thanks, neet concept.
Alot of people believe in silent baits for spring. I am sure this would quite the rattling hooks for a true silent bait. Could make a difference on high pressure fisheries.

Add a swivel between your treble and eyelet. Treble can now spin 360 degrees with no resistance

Yes, but Now there is a lot of room between the hook and the body. And those hooks are going to be catching each other every single cast. That's why in the video I say make the smallest loop possible with the smallest screwdriver. Thanks.

Note to self. Don't use Bass Pro Shop split rings. The lbs should be on the package, I can see why there isn't one on those.#7 is a large ring and they sell 100 lb+ rings that size.

Don’t use split rings much anymore… …moved to quick clips…. or solid stainless steel rings … depending on the application…..split rings are an accident waiting to happen…. found some pretty cool “Quick Snap Fast Clip” by OceanCat on EBay … they’re a rounded triangle shape “quick clip”
I also replaced the treble hooks “w/ assist hooks” on my large saltwater lures or a single in-line hooks …. they never ever bind…. !
      👍😎🤙

I saw this same mod but for topwater baits instead of doubling the split rings. That way you don’t add extra weight that can alter the action and also keeps the hooks from catching each other

Inline circle Hooks and pinch barb
Best for fish best for not getting stuck on other things like tackel box, it's own line, poles, your or neighboring fisherman skin, obstructions like logs and such
If you can't catch as many fish with single hooks you need to practice more.

@@RH-nc8uu circle hooks are for bait.. not lures.. single hooks like the siwash.. yes they are for lures. Very few lure types can employ circle hooks effectively.

Make sure you do a good pull test then snip the ends. All braids are different. Some slicker than others so inital pull may slip a tad. Good luck and have fun.

Use 3 or 4 strong double swivels between your rear eyelet and your treble.

Gary, do you use a shorter shank hook for this application to prevent the front and rear hooks from fouling? Great video, and I'm going to use this as I'm fishing for early spring largemouth in cold water here in a few days. Thanks!

    • @garysfishtales
      @garysfishtales  2 роки тому

Yes if its an older Rattle trap without the new short shank EWG Hooks. New traps, I use the SS EWG hooks that come with the lure. Use very samll screw driver so the loop your making is small. 1/8" I dont have any problems. If using a larger screw driver, I would put a smaller hook on back. Hope this helps.

Long as you tie the knot like it is done in the video and make it the right size.but a lipless with the right hooks on it with split rings are that knot shouldn’t get caught together.I fish a ton of lipless cranks i have close to 200 in my boxes alone…I personally change the split rings and the hooks right out of the package an the majority of brands I buy..years ago all of them should have Ben changed out of the package but these days there’s a few that come with good hardware but even with the better hardware there’s some situations to where I might have. To go to a bigger size and switch the front out for a round bend hook instead of an EWG sometimes I have to change the rear hook out for a long shank instead of a short shank or even run a blade as the rear hook just depends on the situation..but that knot should save you in jam for example if you get on some huge fish and have stock split rings on your trap you can us heavy braid to make some on the water that are stronger then what you got on it..but it’s definitely important to keep thee size of that knot small the bigger it is the more slack the fish will have to throw the hook by using the weight of the bait when shaking its head…

If this works, I really am struggling to accept that it is about the fish getting leverage. What I could see is the fish sucking in the hook better and therefore a better hookup.
