- Rail joint pull apart but my buddy and I got it to come together using
drift pins and a lot of muscle. Rail Fire Snake costs $93 a can plus
shipping so we saved the company some money using our brawn.

A Helper 😜 is nice 👍👷. Thanks DAVE !!
Your right bout that Alan. This new guy is willing to learn unlike my last buddy who came on the job and thought he already knew
everything. Your welcome for the video. My pleasure sir. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
That was interesting! I didn't know that could be done that way! ⚒
Thank you for the nice comment and glad you enjoyed BaltimoreAndOhioRR. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
It’s hard to imagine the compression in the summer and tension in the winter that these rails are under!
Your right about that Agostino, but can't prevent it, just mitigate
it as best you can with rail anchors. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Brrrrr! Dave, I'll stay indoors and watch your videos. Stay warm and take care.
Minus 7 here this morning and again tonight Dave. Air on the
locomotive froze up last night, it was not a good day, coal
freezing in the hopper cars too.Took all day to load and unload
1 train. But at least the track held up well and nothing derailed.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
@@ccrx6700 That is cold! I thought it was cold over here in Washington state. 5 AM it was 24 degrees, I have nothing to complain about. I'm just glad my truck has a block heater! You really do need to stay warm.
@daveadock2874 😊👍
Thanks Dave for your devotion towards the railroad and rail fan viewers. I enjoy watching the required work that is needed to keep the trains running.
@bobB-jy3cz 😊👍
Thanks Dave yet another excellent video, really glad you have someone with you. Working alone in that environment is risky.
I think the person who suggested saving a few bucks on substandard bolts needs to replace the next broken bolt. 👉🏽👉🏽
Your welcome Zeno elea. Yes it is nice to finally get a good buddy
who works with me instead of against me. Bean counters see
computer screens with prices and don't have a clue what it takes
to keep heavy coal trains running. But that's railroading, like it
or not. :-) Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Good to see the younger people learning the craft.
Your certainly right about that Ervan. I am old enough to be his
dad.... :-) Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.

Good to see you have your helper back especially in this weather.
Yes it is nice to finally get a good buddy who works with me instead
of against me Nathan. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Another nice track day in the cold. Those are tough draft pins. Stay warm and safe out there Dave.
Your right about that Rob, those pins are pretty rugged. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
It's amazing how much steel rail xpands and contracts with the weather changes. It's nice to have a great partner. Both of you be safe out there. Have a great week.
Minus 15 thins morning Lewis, everything was froze up, no trains
ran today. Yes it is nice to finally get a good buddy who works
with me instead of against me. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
The steel coefficient of 1-D linear expansion is 10^-6 per degree.
Thank you for sharing while in the cold

Dave when you swung that big pin right in I said yep that mans got it handled 😎😎😎😎
Thank you for the very kind words permanentmeanstreak. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
We had -28°F here in Rhinelander this morning and I was out in that crap all night trying to coax frozen valves to work at the papermill here.. Only -10°F tonight so "yippee". Another great tack repair tute, enjoyed it much. Thanks Dave!
Dang, that's unbelievable! Minus 7 here and again tonight. Guess
we have a heat wave compared to you poowg. Air lines on the
loco froze up this morning, we could have used your expertise!
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
Please be safe in this extreme cold. Glad you had a buddy with you to help.
Thank you for your caring Beverly, I will be safe. Minus 7 here this morning and again tonight. Air on the locomotive froze up last night, it was not a good day, coal freezing in the hopper cars too.Took all day to load and unload 1 train. But at least the track held up well and nothing derailed. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
Great short video on how to use a sledge. I hope that young man works out. You have a wealth of information that he can learn.
Thank you for the nice comment Richard. This new guy is willing
to learn and is one of those who doesn't already know everything
if you know what I mean. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Nice to see you again Dave! I hope everything is doing great on your end. Stay safe and warm!!
Thanks Anthony. Minus 15 here this morning, everything froze up,
no trains ran, but that's railroading..... Thank you for taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Swinging that hammer all winter, will keep you in shape. Bring Corrie out and let hammer at it. Thanks Dave.
Your right about that William. Someday I'm gonna teach Corrie how
to drive a spike, but if I make a video of that of course Freddy
will have to be in it also. Those two are in competition with each other for air time.... :-) Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
I cold weather we used to fill the gap and stick weld it after the the bolt were in great job and great thanks Dave and helper
Thank you for the nice comment Gary. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
Looks like another great fix in freezing weather.
Appreciate your saying that Ed, actually it went a lot easier than I thought it would. Thanks my friend for checking out the pull apart show.
Dave, Always enjoy watching bolts being replaced. Good to see you had help that day...
Glad you enjoyed and yes it is nice that I now have a good buddy
to work with me instead of against me Steve. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
It would be amazing to know the forces involved. Bless you Dave and guys.
Well you can figure this Doug, each car loaded weighs 286,000 pounds, so with each wheel on one side it hits each joint with a force of 35,750 pounds of weight. If the joint gap is not close then that is a lot of battering happening on the rail heads. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
I swear I could see the gap close, the rail jump, with each hammer hit!
Nice work!
My buddy saw it move so you probably did too John. I hit
that sledge something gotta move, either the rail or my back
will go out of place.... LOL Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
These videos bring me back to earth. Superb and very interesting! Thank you, Dave. ♥from 🇬🇧
Thank you for the very nice comment Peter and glad they are
making you feel better. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
In my area all the rails are welded except the ones in the local hump yard. There was a video made very recently where I did see how a welded track had deformed to do +80 to +100F heat and the engineer had a hell of a time creeping over the rails. These where very new rails as well and the heat kink was visible from the cab. Also with cold weather the proper clothing is very important when doing such work.
I have 16 miles of jointed track, a maintenance nightmare The Hoarding Hermit. Welded rail is the ticket, saves a lot on car wheel
wear and also adds to loco fuel savings and on rail head wear.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Great job! Good to have a buddy working with you.
Thank you and yes it is good to have a guy with me doing this.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day.
Nice work there Dave, them some tuff threads, got them boogered up and still got the nut threaded.. stay warm out there.
Thank you for the nice comment Pappy. Those are good USA made
bolts, couldn't do that with a Chinese or Indian track bolt.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
Hey Mr. Dave, thanks for sharing this, never knew that a rail could be pulled together with a pin and a slegd hammer.
Your certainly welcome Terry and now you know. The warmer it
is the easier it pulls. If it was 30 degrees warmer I could have
pulled this with just one pin fairly easily. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
New buddy missing every other swing. Dave just hitting it every swing 😂
Thank you for the very kind words James, I've had a lot more
practice at swinging than he has. He might miss but I'm just
really thankful to have a good buddy finally with me. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Good job Dave, so glad you're getting some help! Keep them rolling buddy 🙂
Thank you for the nice comment Richard. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Stay safe and warm 🙏
Thank you Charles, this past week was frigid, minus 15 one
morning, everything froze up, but we made it thorough the week. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Now Dave, how did I know you wouldn’t miss a single time, when that young fellow was hitting as much snow as pin. You still got it.😉
Thank you for the nice comment Jim, I've missed a few in my time tho.... :-) Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Awesome content Dave and enjoyed watching plus broght back memories once again. Have a wonderful rest of your day and keep warm. Steve
Thanks for the nice comment Steve. Wish you were here. Minus
7 and train froze up today, but at least the track held up well
and nothing derailed. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
@ccrx6700 you're very welcome and wished I could come back and visit, thank you very much also.
Thank you for this video!
Glad the drift pins did it. Hope the frigid temperatures don't cause more pull-aparts.
Howdy to your new buddy! Besides teaching him the tricks of the trade, instill in him your enthusiasm and motivation.
Minus 7 here this morning and again tonight Robin. Air on the
locomotive froze up last night, it was not a good day, coal
freezing in the hopper cars too.Took all day to load and unload
1 train. But at least the track held up well and nothing derailed.
My new buddy is willing to learn and not like my last one.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
Good job stay warm and safe
Minus 7 here this morning and again tonight Michael. Air on the
locomotive froze up last night, it was not a good day, coal
freezing in the hopper cars too.Took all day to load and unload
1 train. But at least the track held up well and nothing derailed.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and

Thanks Dave
Your welcome Thomas. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Glad you had You Some Help Be Safe.
Thank you and yes it is nice to have a buddy who works with me now instead of against me Derrick. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
The fact that you can pull spiked down rail in a curve is impressive!
It pulled much easier than I thought it would. Warmer rail would
have pulled with only 1 pin what do i do next, it's actually amazing
how much difference in 30 or so degrees the rail pulls. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Good video Dave. Interesting to see you guys hammer them bolts in.
Thank you Mike and glad you enjoyed the home movie. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
@@ccrx6700yeah no problem
Dave you are Awesome! Thank you for your courage and character! God bless you Brother!
Thank you for the very nice comment Greg. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Wow that’s mighty cold but you got it sorted we are down to 3 degrees centigrade at the moment good job Dave thanks for the vid.
Hah, that was warm that week Lawrie, last week it was minus 7,
then minus 15 F. We had an awful time last week trying to keep
trains running and coal from freezing. But thankfully that is
over. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Nice work gentlemen, a job well done! God Bless!
Thank you Dave for the kind words. Really appreciate your taking
the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Mind the gap Dave 😂👍🏻 . That’s Railroading 👍🏻😎Love the job . Robin out
We try Robin, with 16 miles of jointed track have all kinds of different gap spacings. Impossible to keep them all the same.
Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
30° F outside that day was like a heat wave as I sit here on Jan 20 at about 8°F and going to-10° tonight. You were showing the young whippersnapper that there is heat in those tools. Stay warm and safe the next two days out there.
This past week was frigid here too Thomas, minus 7, then minus 15,
we had an awful time keeping trains running and coal kept
wanting to freeze in the hopper cars. My new buddy is willing
to learn and unlike the last one I had who thought he already knew
everything. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Another great video from a true legend ❤❤
Thank you for the very kind words Jack. I'm just doing my job here. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Good work guys !
Thank you for the nice comment Man Size. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
The rail end looks smashed
Looks like the train has punished the ends of the rail
Your right about that ocsrc, heavy coal trains have no mercy!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Thank you for sharing Dave! Another job done well, it's good to see you got a buddy with you now, I'll bet that makes things much easier.
Thank you for the nice comment Raymond and your right, it sure
is nice to have a good buddy now who works with me instead
of against me. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Track inspection Takes a keen eye. You are good. Later.
That;'s why we do inspections to find stuff like this Dan. Very
important. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Good job guys. Im surprised the rail stretched that much in this cold temps. Impressive job. Your a great teacher Dave. Hope those guys appreciate you. Stay warm
Thank you for the nice comment and glad you enjoyed Steven. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Great video in trying conditions Dave! I'll assume that the rail with the smashed end is going in the direction to the River, from dealing with loaded hoppers. Also, working up a sweat in cold weather clothes is hell!!!!!!!!
Thank you for the nice comment Al. You are right about the head
end. This joint had been pulled apart for awhile, it had been a week
or so since I was allowed to make a track inspection.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
Have you seen the US Army film from WW2 where they experiment on how much rail needs to be taken out in order to derail a train? It was done in preparation for the D-Day landings to figure out how big of a gap was needed for the train to jump the tracks so that they could properly sabotage German rail supply.
That film is amazing Never expected it to just keep on rollin.
Yes I have seen that Guernica. It is amazing. However what was
not taken into account is the speed of the train, slower the speed
the bigger gap the wheels will jump, faster the train then it will go
off easier with a big gap. if they wanted to sabotage a train,
all they had to do was pull the spikes or rail fasteners for about
6 ties in a curve. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Way to go dave nice job !!
Thank you for the kind words Richard. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
- Good thing you all cought that contraction in time before it gets really cold . ~ 1342 -
Yes it was, this week was down to minus 15 Clint, so glad got
that fixed before then! Really appreciate your taking the
time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Good job. Pulling that rail was awesome in the cold. 🥶
Thank you for the nice comment Clarence. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.

Glad you enjoyed. Your right about that Yellow Lab. Temp changes

New guy new hammers things are looking good. I hope they let you change the old Indian bolts for good US ones, It will save having to go out as often fixing things next winter. Don't get too frozen out there It sure sounds cold next week.
yep prosperity is here again Cedarcam.... :-) Was frigid this week,
minus 15 one morning, everything froze up. Video on other channel
about that coming Sunday evening. What a struggle it was just
to get one train dumped. 9 hours to load and dump one train.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.

Well done Dave!
Good job. Was that an 8lb. Munday
Thank you for the nice comment Dave. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Did the same thing last Sunday, 3 pins but finnaly got it back together.
It's amazing how using 2 or 3 pins really helps pull the rail Michael.
I've had joints used 3 pins also in the past. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
Just watched a Jason Asselin video in Yooperland Michigan. It featured a badly beat up rail joint that was quite similar to the pull-apart you recently featured, and could put ELS on the ground for a while. But thats how ELS runs their trains, with a few licks and maybe one promise.
When our last company filed bankruptcy Paul, the track budget was
cut minimum 25% and if anything needed done we were the last
to get money. Our track got in pretty sad shape. New owners
have spent in each of the past 2 years since they took us over,
$76,000 per track mile for maintenance. That figure is way
higher than almost any other RR out there. For instance NS
spends annually about $50,000 per track mile. I don't know
but would guess at ELS there is no money. Really appreciate
your taking the time to check out the video and may you have
a very good day my friend.
Youz may fit in a little piece of rail...I did it on our garden railroad.. Greetings from Germany ! Stay safe !
When it expands in the summer, it would cause buckling of the rails.
We have done that in the past Michael, just takes a tad bit longer
to do than on a garden RR tho.... :-) Thank you for taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
I was waiting for the fire stick.
I was really surprised didn't have to use it Robert, but there is a link
in that video's description to watch another video of the Snake in
action if you want to see it. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
This is all so amazing to me Dave. You sure do a great job for the people you work for.
Thank you for the nice comment William. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
It seems that this weather will expose any weak link in the rail system. Simple bolts, but not up to standard and - poof - they're snapped! Doesn't seem to be a lot of rest on the tracks at Iron Senergy in the winter :)
Winter is hard on jointed track Brian. And with 16 miles of jointed
track here it is a maintenance nightmare. But I guess that's why
they have me.... LOL Thank you for taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
I'd like to see the fire snake in action
Here's a video I made of the Fire Snake working Joe. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.

Cool.
Thank you RFM Caboose and yep it was cool out that day.... LOL
unlike today when it was minus 7 and a high of 15! Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
I am surprised the threads don't gall when pounding on misaligned holes! They must be beyond grade 8 on tensile strength as well. Stay warm Dave.. it's 15 below zero this morning in eastern Maine! 🥶🥶
They're a real loose fit, don't know what class thread fit they are, probably off the Machinist's Handbook scale by a bunch, so they still work even when they look impossibly bad.
I grind the one side of the bolt end, beveling it so that helps
when beating the bolt in and in getting the nut started Jon.
Minus 7 here this morning and again tonight. Air on the
locomotive froze up last night, it was not a good day, coal
freezing in the hopper cars too.Took all day to load and unload
1 train. But at least the track held up well and nothing derailed.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
-17 degrees in northern Wisconsin, air frozen on a string of cars, had to break out the gas generator and 5 gallon air compressor and send 1 gallon of air line antifreeze to get it going.
Yesterday the loco air froze up and had a train loaded was minus 7,
took all day just to unload 1 train Jake. I do feel your pain. Minus 15 here this morning, the entire prep plant was froze no trains today.
I'ts been a long long time since it got that cold here. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Wonderful as always hope your staying warm out there, when doing pull aparts you have a max gap it can be but is there a minimum to maintain to maintain in the gap?
Minus 15 this morning Ben, bit hard to stay warm no matter what,
everything froze up today they didn't even run a train. I've had pull aparts up to almost 3 inches in the past, gotta use a lot of Fire Snake to get those back together. Ideally the gap should be
around 1/4 inch, however with us having 16 miles of jointed rail
here it is impossible to have very joint have that gap, some are
more and some are less. That's railroading. Thank you for taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
I have heard of pickin and grinning this must be pinning and grinning!
Your right about that, I like that Larry! Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
kool ...i can imagine the force those bolts poping ..have those nuts tore up the train car wheels or worse?
No the nuts do not tear up the wheels Fred, in fact in a wheel
derailment very often the wheel will shear the nuts off the bolts
and keep on going. Really appreciate your taking the time
to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
that was great pulling the rail with just a taper pin and sledge hammer! great job Dave. so neat seeing
the different techniques. nice to see it close up. what is the maximum gap permitted on rails?
it has to be difficult with the cold to keep the gaps minimal to prevent issues.
Thank you for the nice comment and glad you enjoyed Barry. Code Fed Regulations does not specify a certain gap. However on our track 1/4 of an inch is ideal But with 16 miles of jointed track it
is an impossibility to have every gap the same here. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Arctic blast on the way .
Minus 7 here this morning and again tonight Charles. Air on the
locomotive froze up last night, it was not a good day, coal
freezing in the hopper cars too.Took all day to load and unload
1 train. But at least the track held up well and nothing derailed.

Great men working! Yeah India does worry too much about what metals are tossed in the crucible together.
From some of the videos I've watched apparently you are right
about that Wolf Man. Thank you for watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Amazing job Dave👍👍
Thank you for the nice comment Russell. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Interesting how that rail can even move being nailed down and anchored in place.
Yes it is, if it was anchored on every tie I never could have moved
it without the Fire Snake Bassotronics. Moves pretty easy when its
hot tho. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Dave, you are the working man’s hero! Your content is great and I love learning about the railroad and maintenance involved!
Thank you for the very nice comment and glad you are enjoying

That bolt gun looks a lot cooler than my racine
I do love that Ingersoll Rand impact wrench Alex. I have a Racine
impact that is hydraulic driven off my hi rail truck and that has
more power than this IR. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
It always amazes me how a pin can pull that rail back together. Great work! :)
Thank you for the nice comment Bryan. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.

You need the Indian bolts from near the Himalayan Mountains, so they can take the cold. 😉 Indians love their trains.
Now why didn't I think of that Andy! Next order in is for bolts make
specifically in the Himalayan region..... :-) Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
It is amazing what cold can do to steel
Rail is amazing to me how it can expand and contract as much as
it does, and is as strong as it is, yet can be so brittle Wayne.
Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and
may you have a very good day my friend.
I imagine the extreme cold weather causes lots of issues with the tracks. Good job staying ion top of the problems!
Your right, winter is hard on track, specially the warm cold cycle
watchingInPDX. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Great job Dave!
Thank you for the nice comment 1208 Bug. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Milwaukee M18 1in drive, for Christmas? Got M18 1in torque 1200 ft lb. Enough drift pins, heavy hitter 10 pound hammer, bam bam swing 12 pound hammer!
The Milwaukee 1 inch drive impacts are really good too Sharon,
mine is an Ingersoll Rand. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Dave I sure hope your crew in the repair shop keeps a pot of Coffee going, sure helps to warm you up.
They do have one in the lunch room Donnie, but we are hardly
every in there except in the mornings. I bring coffee and hot
herbal tea to work every day in my thermos. Was frigid here
this past week, minus 15 one morning. We had an awful time
keeping trains running. Thank you for watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
That’s dangerous Hap. How could that ever be allowed to occur? Carelessness!
What part do you consider dangerous Garth? If you are speaking of
joint pull aparts we have 16 miles of jointed track here and
you just cannot prevent pull aparts. A pull apart in tangent track with no lateral forces from the train is not as critical as a pull apart on
the high side of a curve. Really appreciate your taking the time
to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Great job! I am surprised that cold rail pulled that far!
Thank you for the nice comment Gary. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Dave swings like he’s 20 years old! Show him how to do it.
Thank you for the very kind words CCscott. I'm doing okay for going on 71 years. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Well Dave the area I live in here in NW FL is under a SNOW Advisory for Tuesday, All 7 bridges will be closed to traffic since we don't have trucks for spreading salt or sand. I got the call from Okaloosa County Emergency Management about 2 hours ago. the temp here is now 36 degrees outside and inside the house it is 69.
That was quite a week we had here too Hugh. Minus 15 on Wednesday, minus 7 the night before, but we did luck out and
no snow since last Sunday. Several others have written in also
about the extremes down your way and in Texas. Glad that
week is over. Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
Nice repair Dave. I noticed you didn't missed hitting the pin!
Thank you for the nice comment Brian. I've missed a few in
my time too tho. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch and may you have a very good day my friend.
Hm....so is the rail itself that ductile, that it stretches using those tools, or does the rail at the other far end shift away from the joint ? Just curious lol...and awesome job ... that's like Superman stuff right there!!
Good question Jennifer. You are right, it does a bit of both when
using the drift pin. Now I wish I had measured the gap in the other
joint before I started and after, will try to remember to do that the next time. Really appreciate your taking the time to watch the video and may you have a very good day my friend.
@ccrx6700 cool, thanks! That should be interesting to see what happens! We use something similar to drift pins to punch holes in hot steel when we make things like bottle openers 😊. Not sure where some of our drifts came from... certainly could have been old railroad tools!
@jenniferbutcher8393 😊👍
How nice it would be if every other joint was welded. I keep hearing your wisdom of why you have jointed rail.
You are so right about that Larry. What a dream it would be to have
all welded rail here. Jointed track is a maintenance nightmare.
Really appreciate your watching and may you have a very good day my friend.
