Back in 93 I wanted Sonic CD and Lunar SOOOOOO badly. I ended up getting my mitts on my Sega CD early in 94 and loved it everyday until the bitter end.
Unfortunately the Master system was dead in the water here in the states, so I was relegated to playing Chaos on my blue Sonic edition GameGear, would have killed to play on something that had a wider screen and didn't take $15 in batteries to operate 😅
@@michaelmanning9028 yeah it’s too bad it didn’t catch on over there, the Master System was more popular here in Australia than the NES and would continue with the MegaDrive also. @KenzGamesCollection definitely! I've regretted selling the blue GG I had back in the day, but when you're a kid and you don't have a job you'll do dumb things like sell your current games/systems for new ones 🤦♂️
This is a great "sequel" to your Sonic 2sDay video! It's awesome that three different consoles got a great new Sonic game simultaneously. What a time to be alive!
Thanks friend! Now I have to get to work on sonic 3 which also has a great story to it! I wonder how many kids got all 3 for Xmas? I actually don’t get a cd until 94 because it was still expensive
What I love about the opening of sonic CD is that toei animation did the opening for this game which was fantastic as someone who loves dragon ball and saint seiya.
@18:51 Just to point out that Green Hills from Sonic 2 8-bit is the first and more closer to the "You can do anything" song. Mecha Green Hill feels more like a remix of that original theme.
People can say what they want about Sonic Spinball, but I really enjoyed it, as well as Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. They were both really good for wasting time when you had nothing else to do as a kid.
The Sonic 2 Game Gear Aqua Lake level theme might be my favorite music to ever be on the GG/SMS. What a fantastic tune that was! One of the best levels in the game too. Being able to skip across the water while in ball form was a really cool touch!
It's definitely a tune that makes you think of a water park in a way, doesn't it? Did you know you can hear a bit of Aqua Lake in the first level, Underground Zone's music? Listen to it and see if you can pick it out! ^_^
I happen to be a Sega Fanboy at heart. I once found an old Sega Mega Drive at a local Charity Shop. It only cost $5AU, and it worked perfectly. I was able to get a Mega CD and 32X to add onto it, and given the cheapness of the items at the time, I'm proud I achieved such feats. Nowadays the Charity Shops are focusing on selling items for premium prices. A $5 deal like the Mega Drive or the Atari Lynx would now cost many times that amount.
Hey pixel vixen! Hope you’re doing fine! I think more people were into Sonic, it was just plastered everywhere. Honestly Nintendo’s slow drip policy hurt them in the 90s I think
Everyone was. Sonic was definitely way more popular than mario between 1991 and 1996. Especially un europe were Nintendo was never really popular and sega was
@@GTV-Japan I'm doing rad thanks, wrist all healed, skating again and doing my bit to eat all of Family Mart's chocolate pastries and coffees lol. Hope you're doing great too. I think at the end of 1993, everyone was all about Sega in the UK, though some friends did have a SNES, and I got one myself at the end of 1994. But I do love classic Sonic, and I really want to try Sonic Chaos now, looks like a blast.
Christmas came early this year! Two videos of yours that i haven't seen in one day! My parents refused to buy me a Genesis or SNES since we had so many NES games, so while most kids my age were playing Mortal Kombat, Super Mario World, and Sonic, I was still rocking Chip and Dale, Little Nemo, all 3 Mario games and a ton more on the NES, of course these days it doesn't bother me, but as an 8 year old I was incredibly jealous of my classmates, on Christmas of 96' I woke up to find my Sega Genesis packed with Sonic Spinball under the tree....while most of my friends were getting and asking for Playstation's or N64's 😂 I was still thrilled with the upgrade and by that time the games had become much cheaper and were new to me so I didn't mind!
I remember how much of an event that used to be...especially the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge and how something you have kept in your closet for years could open to something new. "Those were the days." Indeed my friend
Sega really did a bang up job back then! I loved everything they brought out, including ALL the Sonic games on Game Gear! I had a Game Gear growing up & absolutely loved it! I ended up getting every single Sonic game that came out for it & enjoyed every one of them. I was a pretty skilled gamer as a kid, so my personal fav has actually always been Sonic 2 for Game Gear. I know most hate it because they find it too difficult, but I have always loved it! The level design & music are unique & amazing imo! I was somehow able to find every Chaos Emerald as a 10 year old kid with no Internet & no guide of any kind. I was the only person I knew to be able to do that! Although I admit it took me about a YEAR to FINALLY find the Emerald in World 2. I pretty easily found all the others but took me a long time to find that one. I remember one day saying to myself that I was going to explore EVERY EDGE of the map to try & find it, and I got lucky being able to spot it JUST up in the top corner of the map in the clouds! So I had just barely spotted it, but now I had to figure out how to actually get up there to get it. I used the Pause button a LOT while falling thru the clouds, to try & look for what I figured was probably a hidden spring in a single round shaped cloud, since I KNEW the level had those in other spots & figured that might be the way to get to the emerald. Ended up being right about that. After scouring the cloudscape I was finally able to find the single random round cloud that had the hidden spring allowing me enough height & distance to get the Emerald. I felt quite accomplished & always considered that my greatest gaming feat as a kid. I can't imagine many kids finding all of the Emeralds completely on their own.
Growing up, Sonic 2 and Road Rash were the only Game Gear games I owned. So I found the emeralds mapping the whole levels in my head with each playthrough. It was a satisfying feat; few can say they did it back then! So, congrats on that fellow 8-bit Emerald Hunter! I streamed the game a few years ago and could still find them after all this time, much to my surprise! In Sky High Zone Act 2, you could also use the hang glider at the beginning of the Act to reach the Emerald, but in the stream, I failed and had to fall back on the cloud spring in the end! 😅
@@RamuneRabbit Funny cus I vaguely remember seeing someone do it w the Hangglider online & had no idea you could do that. But yeah it felt like I had done something really tough to do when I finally accomplished it as a youngster.
Always stoked to see new gtv videos, and one on every sega fans favorite blue blur. Many thanks and kudos again to you good sir. Ive said it before and ill say it again, keep up the good work. And like my last comment, always love seeing the old adverts and your ability to gather top notch info and deliver in a very digestible and pleasurable viewing manner. Thanks again and best wishes for your continued success my guy.
Another wonderful video, thank you! Your coverage of 90s Sega is unparalleled. Such fond memories of the Genesis era, which to this day remains pound-for-pound my favourite console ever.
The fans divided over/fans who loved both of the soundtracks of sonic CD would get a nice surprise with the ps3 rerelease of the game which bundled both soundtracks into the game. My favorite aspect of that port. Those little tidbits about Sonic being able to do a hadouken in Sonic Chaos and there being a gg port for sonic spinball are super surprising. Good work as usual!
Thanks I’m glad you like it! There are actually many Easter eggs in sonic cd but I thought everyone knew about them. Oh well! I like how all the rereleases now have both sound tracks. Nice option! Thank god we live in the future!!
I remember seeing that commercial during an episode of Satam and getting super excited, and that Christmas I got Sonic Spinball & Chaos. Sonic Choas was the first Sonic game I ever beat without mine brothers help, though Spinball kicked mine butt...alot! Gotta say 93 had to be Sonic's golden year, receiving two cartoon series, comic book and being the first video game to get a balloon in Macy's Thanksgiving parade.
Out of the three, we only got Sonic Spinball on Christmas that year. Didn't have a Sega CD nor a Game Gear that time. I enjoyed it for what it was though.
Hey no problem! It doesn’t matter when you watch, everyone is welcome! Yes I try to reply to as many comments as I can. If they are simple things like “cool” or “good vid” I kind of let them go by but there are a lot of quality comments from smart people who took the time to watch the videos and took time to comment so I feel it’s a duty and a privilege to respond. Honestly it doesn’t take much time! The only time comments are hectic is the first 1-3 days of a video. It takes about 2-3 hours to go through those. Not bad and I like it! I want to hear people’s stories! Or if they don’t like something that’s important to know. Days like today, I’ll get about 3-4 comments so when they pop up it’s easy to read and reply. Maybe there will be a day where I get 1,000 comments every day and yeah that is impossible to keep up with but without the viewers and their input, what’s the point of the video? I’ll never forget that! Also when a really heartfelt comment comes up, often someone having memories of someone who’s now gone but also other things, I’ll pin it so that gets the most exposure, and it’s lead to great replies from others! Anyway thanks again and have a good day!!
18:53 the green hills zone from 8-bit sonic 2 does have the more accurate rendition of said song though, also the strike dash you mention in 18:38 i think sonic cd used the term super peel-out for that one
I love these videos. I'm a sucker for games marketing and how companies would roll out events, or even small elements like how they market the games in commercials. Another great video. Thanks for sharing!
Another great episode! My bday is 24 Nov. I remember getting a Genesis with Sonic 2 that day. My friends and I were ecstatic. Best Bday ever!!! Thanks Sega!!!😂
I only found out with the advent of internet that a lot of people hated sonic spinball. For me it's among the best sonic games ever made. I also love pinball games in general
It’s funny how opinions can differ like that. The reviews were ok but it was mainly because the game wasn’t sonic 3. On its own it’s great! I can understand a dislike of it but not hate.
I remember all the hype for Sonic Spinball and Sonic CD in the magazines at the time. However, I'm not a fan of any of those games. Sonic CD is a good game, but in my opinion, it was a step backward from Sonic 2. The game required more exploration, and I loved the faster pace of Sonic 2. I don't like Sonic Spinball at all. It was a good idea, but the game is not on the same level as most other Sonic games of the time, quality-wise. But I cannot deny the power of those special Sonic launch days in the 90s. Thank you very much for publishing another excellent video.
Honestly sonic CD is like Sonic 1.5 but awesome music! So I can see that. Also no tails and no touched up graphics like sonic 2. But hey they did what they could.
@@GTV-Japan Sonic CD is a really good game. A lot of people love it. As you say, however, is more of a Sonic 1.5. I like Japanese soundtrack more, though.
I had no clue that these games were connected this way. I remember enjoying Sonic 2 on the Game Gear a lot back then, it's amazing how different it is from the original 16-bit version and a great game in its own right. I also like Spinball but its soundtracks are too short and loop constantly, but it's still fun to play. While I remember playing Sonic CD and how amazing the animated intro is, it's a bit nostalgic too but I don't like this game, I feel it's a chore to play and honestly the level design seems to have been made by amateurs, sure it has its qualities in visuals, FMVs and soundtrack but that's it for me. Also, why SoA decided to redo its entire soundtrack is quite ridiculous, instead of focusing on bringing quality titles, spending resources and wasting time on something that had nothing wrong with it comes to show the first signs of a divided company. I know Shinobi X/Legions has a improved soundtrack in Europe, but maybe this is a case where the redone work is objectively better than the original. A tip for those who want to try the 8-bit Sonic games is to always go for the SMS versions, as they have the proper resolution, while the Game Gear games suffer from zoomed in areas due to its lower screen resolution.
Still can't complete that savagely hard game. Ps did you know the sound was meant to be so much better...can't remember the reason, but the option screen sound, was awesome before they changed it to the GEMS driver. Wish I knew the vid/channel I saw it on now. Probably gamehut.
I'm super late to the video to comment this but the artwork featured at 4:30 is actually fanart that I drew and posted on my Instagram page back in January 2020.It's art that I based on the original concept art of Sonic CD and I can prove it's actually mine since I still have the sketchbook it's in.I just thought I would say something since I really surprised to see it in a video.
Wow I had no idea! I found that in a collection of files that were labeled as coming from the Sega and Sonic collection extras. I’m sorry and I didn’t know it wasn’t actually from there. But thanks for informing me about it
It's surreal how Sonic was so popular and the games could compete with Mario only in the 90s on the Genesis. While I loved the Adventure games and thought that was a great direction for Sonic to go in 3D the fact that the Dreamcast undersold did not help with Sonics staying power. Fall 2001 feels a bit bittersweet with the launch of the Xbox and Master Chief becoming a bigger icon that generation than Sonic.
I thought the Dreamcast was selling well. Just that it would never be profitable enough no matter how many were sold. Besides it’s better now. Let someone else pay 5 billion dollars to make the hardware, just focus on games which is what matters. 🦔🦔🦔
Sonic CD, Sonic Chaos and Sonic Spinball are truly good for being a great player in the 90’s. Next year in February you should make a video of the 30th Anniversary of Sonic 3 “Hedgehog Day”!
It really was a special time and Sonic 3&K really was a special game. I think it’s the most replayable game I’ve ever…..well played. Just this summer me and my daughter played the bejeebus out of it along with Sonic mania and we bought every single IDW Sonic comic we could get our grubby little hands on. For so many people this game is their “Rosebud” just imagine Citizen F-ing cane saying “Sonic 3&K” instead before he kicked the bucket!!!
Knowing that Mario and Sonic’s popularity is increasing following the release of “Sonic Superstars” and “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” respectively sure gets me excited for more of their upcoming movies! The latest news I’ve read is that Sonic might surpass Mario, but I like both of them tbh.
So it was the American studios that did the Game Gear Sonic games? I did not know that! Glad to know this considering how much Nostalgia I have for them. Watching this vid is causing all of it to come flooding back! I REALLY want to go try Sonic Chaos on the SMS now! Looks like it would be a LOT of fun with the improved screen resolution!
Only Sonic Spinball was done by Americans. Sonic Chaos and the other Game Gear Sonic games that followed were handled by Aspect Co., Ltd., A COMPLETELY Japanese game studio.
I remember those days, when i had a NES and my cousin had a Master System 2, here in Spain the MS was huge, i knew a lot of people that had it and eventually i had mine too. I loved Sonic, near my parent's house there was a video store that had the Mega Drive running with Sonic 2, and i dreamed having it, every day i sat there seeing the game demo running non stop. My aunt then bought Sonic Chaos to my cousin for his birthday present and i was amazed, i went to his house and played Sonic like every day hahaha oh and played Alex Kidd too! good times.
I’ll try to! I already have sonic and knuckles vs donkey Kong county on the drawing board. Looking back it was pretty interesting to see Nintendo punch back. Of course I reply to comments! The only time I don’t is like if someone leaves 5 in a row and I just reply to the longest one or if it’s nonsense and I can’t understand it 😂 but I have read every comment since I started and even the negative ones I let stand. If it’s so awful then UA-cam won’t let it through anyway but that’s a different story. I appreciate every viewer because you took the time to watch and the time to comment, it would be wrong to just ignore that!! When I started I swore I’d never be the channel that ignores comments. ALL the big channels do that. Sure there are videos with 1000s of “great video” I can understand skipping some of them but then I’ve seen genuine questions that will never go answered. I don’t care if I have a million subscribers and it takes 4-5 hours a day to get through comments. I will never let those comments go by. Never!!! 😃
This is interesting from an American perspective since you only mention the Master System as a footnote with Chaos. The original Master System version is really the best way to play Chaos and I can't imagine playing that on a Game Gear with that resolution. 😂 You did forget to mention also that Spinball was later released for the Master System, not just the GG.
Sonic Spinball may well be my second fav Sonic game right after 3. I've put so many hours into those 4 levels and love how is featured cameos in the bonus levels of characters from the cartoon series (the darker one, not the kid-friendly idiotic one)
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the last minute panic over Sonic Spinball. The first copies made had music from Dreams come True (The title and Game Over tracks). Just before Sonic Mania day, a pre launch party for Spinball had a representative from Japan ask "Hey, did you get permission to use Dream's music?" A big OH FUCK moment happened as the team raced to change the music and recall all copies of the game before launch. Those sold before Mania day still exist but it's hard to tell the difference between the versions just from the cartridge. Even then, the price difference between the two versions aren't worthy outside of a few dollars or so.
Those tracks are labeled Beta Tracks if you download the GYM files. Howard Drowsin composed the music to Spinball. I think he used those Tracks as placeholder and forgot to remove them.
18:50 - That's not quite correct. The earliest version of "You can do Anything" was first used in the 8-bit Sonic 2, specifically the Green Hills Zone from that game. A full year before Sonic CD even existed. And for all intents and purposes, those first three 8-bit games were designed for the Master System first. Screen crunch problems came when porting them to Game Gear.
I like how you write it 2’s Day in the possessive. I think it’s cooler that way. In the comments it seems like some remember mania day but not all. I think being us only is part of that but it wasn’t given the same push, it feels like. Not sure. Thanks for watching 🦔🦊
I read an article on Time Extension that talked about the creation of the Sega Menacer, and that article also mentioned the tension that existed between Japanese and Western Sega employees.
Certainly there was. I mean which was the 'real' sega? I think a lot of 'tension' though is just pressure to success. When it doesn't happen, bad things follow. I am certain every company of every type would say there is some tension always going on. Well, the home office of Japan got their way in the end....
I'm not a Sonic super fan, but I was surprised to see what looks like an alternative design for Amy Rose at 9:12 for a few frames. Never seen it and a casual google search showed nothing.
Sega could've had it all back then. But they forgot that the race aint won until you reach the finish line. The rift that developed between SOJ and SOA had serious ramifications in the upcoming next console generation.
GTVJapan I recently came across a Kanlinske interview about Sony also offering Sega the Playstation tech. Kalinske had finalized it with Sony execs but Nakayama turned it down. They could've continued their Western success since there was a 2 year delay on the N64 versus the PS1.
@AMurder0fCrows44 yeah that’s a well known story but I think if Tom had his way and there were no PlayStation he would have run the Genesis out as long as far as possible. Just like Nintendo did
I know Sonic Spinball gets a lot of hate, but I always enjoyed it back in the Genesis days! I think it's better than ppl give it credit for, and I even liked the music which everyone seems to hate! I think they did a pretty decent job considering it uses the GEMS sound driver. No, it's not a masterpiece, but I think it's solid enough & fun to play! I also really like the boss encounters.
The thing that always struck me about Sonic Spinball was that it was the ONLY officially published Sonic game to acknowledge the characters from Sonic SatAM, though it was their prototype Archie Comics versions. And it was adapted (very loosely) into an episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Also, I know it's from the Ren and Stimpy era, but those 90's video game commercials are gross. Just, almost puked when that guy's eyeballs slid out of his mouth.
Man I hate using the R card, but from how you described Yuji's behavior after Sonic 2... makes him sound racist. So you have a hard project, do you say that you hate all Americans and demand your company to create a discriminatory work space that bans people because of their ethnicity afterwards? That sort of racist behavior shouldn't have been tolerated. The correct company response should be to fire said individual. I already suspected he held grudges against the USA division when he went out of his way to block Sonic Extreme from working out, but wow... yeah. What a racist douche and a inside trader too. It's good that he at last got some karma for his racism, helping crash Sega out of the console space and said inside trading.
I don’t know what the R card means. But it is true that Yuji did not get along with the Americans because of language barriers and because of differences in how work was done. He seems like the kind of guy who doesn’t like working with anybody regardless of but it is still true that he worked on sonic 3 with Japanese staff at least until the project got so big he had no choice. But these videos are meant to tell a story arc so this will come up more in the Sonic 3 video which is more about him and his work. In this video I did try to paint the image of all that was going around while he was locked away doing Sonic 3. Thanks for your comment and opinions!🦔🦔🦔
Also I think insider trading is a process crime and should not be “illegal.” It’s not fair that if you own stock in something you worked on you have to just sit there and watch the value fall to zero. Why is it a “crime” to sell that off and try to recover your losses? It makes no sense to me.
@@GTV-Japan It's a good video and it told the tale well. I was a kid then with no Internet. So a lot of it breezed by me then. R card=racist card, not my reference. I guess some card player came up with it. Yes Indeed it sounded like he also didn't like working to other peoples deadlines. But when it came to Sonic Extreme and him blocking SoA from using his game engine, it all paints a nasty picture of him (in my opinion.) His actions harmed the company employing him and ultimately helped Sega exit the console space.
@ReinMixTape the thing is when you move to Japan you’re kind of frozen in time. You stop having natural English conversations with people and especially 20 years ago you were cut off from most media. The only people you get to converse with are also people like yourself who are frozen in time and you talk about the things going on here, or just business. So you end up not hearing new words or phrases. I jokingly call this “20th century English” but it’s true! And so I hear things sometimes in comments that I have no idea what they mean. English in 2023 is mostly incomprehensible to me 😂
@@GTV-Japan I hadn't thought about that before, then again I've not lived in a country where English isn't the primary language... yet. 20th century English... I like it.
I never had access to Sonic CD, so I picked it up in GameCube when it was re-released, I know a lot of people really love CD, But I was not a fan, I could never get into a flow, I always ran into stuff trying to go to the past, future, etc. It almost seemed to me they were drunk when they made CD, the zones at least to me were a jumbled mess, love the music both the English and Japanese tunes are classic Sonic all the way, but man I think you had to grow up with CD to like it as much as some do. love Chaos, spinball was ok, I'll listen to the soundtrack when I want my CD fix 😅
I think this is a common complaint. You have to know where time travel then often backtrack in an all new stage to find the machines to destroy. It is a little counter to what sonic is/should be, running and tearing it up!
@GTV-Japan I would love to see the same concept in a more structured environment in the same style as Superstars or Mania. The the idea/gimmick of CD was really cool.
@michaelmanning9028 yeah it was pretty cool. I guess the series wasn’t ready for that much deviation. As evidenced by how some people hate spinball too
True but I much prefer today where basically you have a vcr style setup that plays almost everything and you don’t have to worry much about it. Oh and the graphics are much better today too 🦔
@@GTV-Japan of course, i just said the console wars back then had more character, means nowadays its just about who has what eclusive, who buys what studio, but no "spice" in the war like back then, no counter advertisement like the one in the tvads in your video. today they would be afraid to be sued to name the competitor directly in a tvad.
I would love to hear more about Yuji Naka's story about vowing never to work with the American devs again. I bet this is very much out of context based on this video... I'd bet it had a lot to do with language barrier, being in a different country, and other things that are probably the opposite of what a lot of ppl are thinking after watching this video. This topic needs more coverage & clarity.
@@GTV-Japan Yeah, sorry. I just meant that the video made it sound like there was some sort of animosity between the teams & just thinking about it I figured there had to be more to it. I am sure it must have been a nightmare for Naka trying to adapt to a foreign place like that, specially when having to work with devs who don't even speak the same language as yourself. I can just imagine that was a nightmare for all involved. But you say Yuji Naka wasn't well liked? I didn't know that. I would love to see a video going more in depth into these topics for sure!
Ah! So THAT'S why Sonic CD doesn't feel very nice to control, cus it's based off Sonic 1! The improvements in the control of Sonic 2 while subtle were a huge improvement!
@@GTV-Japan I like the premise behind Sonic CD but I could never really get into it. It just felt awkward to play as did the level design. It just wasn't for me. But at least it wasn't as bad as Knuckles Chaotix! Now THAT game was awkward! It was the first game I got for the 32X & I did not like it AT ALL!

It's definitely a tune that makes you think of a water park in a way, doesn't it? Did you know you can hear a bit of Aqua Lake in the first level, Underground Zone's music? Listen to it and see if you can pick it out! ^_^
A GTV video drop day is a good day indeed!
That’s great! Thanks for sharing your story.
As always an awesome video. I do remember kids being more stoked about Sonic in 1992/93 than Mario, maybe that was my age at the time.
@FutureSaviors that’s good! I try to stay away from the konbini these days. Too expensive
Sounds nice! I knew a guy who had only an Atari 2600 until 1991 for the same reason!!! I still have 2 more vids for the year so let the Xmas roll on
I remember how much of an event that used to be...especially the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge and how something you have kept in your closet for years could open to something new. "Those were the days." Indeed my friend
It was magic that sonic 2 could be replayed that way
@@GTV-Japan For realz, I played the heck outta Sonic 2... but to play through it as Knuckles was unreal!!!
But yeah it felt like I had done something really tough to do when I finally accomplished it as a youngster.
is the game gear version like the master system version?
i loved finding the emeralds on the sonic 1 for master system as a kid. The jungle zone one was classic
@frankkkbard0n315 they are the “same” but have a few differences. Not just the viewing ratio. In sonic 1 some of the emeralds are in different places
Another wonderful video, thank you! Your coverage of 90s Sega is unparalleled. Such fond memories of the Genesis era, which to this day remains pound-for-pound my favourite console ever.
Thanks! Next up is phantasy Star 4!!
So much nostalgia in these videos. Good video!
Thanks for sharing your story!!
What is the odds that 3 sonic's games in one year and Sonic CD is awesome. 😀👍🎮
So many great memories back then as a kid with my Mega Drive console with Sonic 1 / 2 👍🏻 thank you for the great video
That’s great to hear. You’re welcome!
Out of the three, we only got Sonic Spinball on Christmas that year. Didn't have a Sega CD nor a Game Gear that time. I enjoyed it for what it was though.
It was fun! It just wasn’t sonic 3🦔
I'm late to this video but just wanted to say how wonderful it is that you reply to comments so much when you have such a large subscriber count ❤❤
I didn't realize they had another specific Sonic Day, but that's awesome. Great video!
It gets kind of lost in between sonic 2 and 3. Thanks for watching!!
18:53 the green hills zone from 8-bit sonic 2 does have the more accurate rendition of said song though, also the strike dash you mention in 18:38 i think sonic cd used the term super peel-out for that one
I guess it depends on what region but yeah🦔
The _Past_ music tracks aren't Red Book CD Audio like the others, but rather PCM sample-based sequences played on the Ricoch RF5C164 chip.
Doh!!!
Another awesome and well done video. Great job GTV and thanks!

Me too! Sega did marketing the best by far.

Phantasy Star III is another game like that. At the time review scores were 8s 9s and 10s but here comes the internet and suddenly the game sucks!!!
I remember my xmas that year - i had spinball and CD... good times!
Awesome! Good to hear
Man... you guys make bangers!!
Thanks! I appreciate the support!!

Sonic Chaos on the Master System was my first Sonic game!
i got spinball and chaos as holiday gifts. I only beat Spinball 30 years later, this year playing it on NSO. (Rewind helped a lot 😂)
Still can't complete that savagely hard game.
Ps did you know the sound was meant to be so much better...can't remember the reason, but the option screen sound, was awesome before they changed it to the GEMS driver.

@@GTV-Japan Would love to see Sega make a proper return to hardware.
Sonic CD, Sonic Chaos and Sonic Spinball are truly good for being a great player in the 90’s. Next year in February you should make a video of the 30th Anniversary of Sonic 3 “Hedgehog Day”!

Sonic already surpassed Mario in 1992!

My aunt then bought Sonic Chaos to my cousin for his birthday present and i was amazed, i went to his house and played Sonic like every day hahaha oh and played Alex Kidd too! good times.
That’s a great story! I’ve heard the sms was big in Spain. It must have been fun times
I've never even heard of this day. Surprised it isn't talked about more.
Yeah it’s unfortunate! But none of the games were mega hits and with Sonic 2 and 3 coming so fast, it’s just too much to track I guess.

Sure. Let’s make it happen

You did forget to mention also that Spinball was later released for the Master System, not just the GG.
Yes it was also on the sms of course but it was only a 27 minute show.
@@GTV-Japan Oh okay.
Sonic Spinball may well be my second fav Sonic game right after 3. I've put so many hours into those 4 levels and love how is featured cameos in the bonus levels of characters from the cartoon series (the darker one, not the kid-friendly idiotic one)
Oh yeah that’s right!!
I missed this in my notifications!
Dohhhh!
That will come up in sonic 3
Those tracks are labeled Beta Tracks if you download the GYM files. Howard Drowsin composed the music to Spinball. I think he used those Tracks as placeholder and forgot to remove them.
The only way to tell is from the title screen music.
Doh.
Hey uh what about dr. robotnik's mean bean machine that came out along with them?
That came out on Nov 26!

As evidenced by how some people hate spinball too
the console wars back then had so much more character
True but I much prefer today where basically you have a vcr style setup that plays almost everything and you don’t have to worry much about it. Oh and the graphics are much better today too 🦔
@@GTV-Japan of course, i just said the console wars back then had more character, means nowadays its just about who has what eclusive, who buys what studio, but no "spice" in the war like back then, no counter advertisement like the one in the tvads in your video. today they would be afraid to be sued to name the competitor directly in a tvad.
@ot4_retrogaming oh yeah. Well who even watches tv anymore? 😂 Sega’s ads were always the best! I love how they were on the offensive
Sonic CD has always been my favourite Sonic game…and Sonic Spin-ball is just no.
Fantastic🧑🍳💋
0:00 My eyes don't thank you...
When I get to sonic 3 I’ll go more into it. Yes language barrier but he doesn’t come off as a very well liked person by those who worked with him.
Not gonna lie, between the stuff he pulled with Sonic X-Treme and This, Yuji Naka comes off as quite the d-bag.
There’s that word again!
So, Sega wins in the 16 bits war at 1991, 1992 and 1993.
And Nintendo only in 1994 and 1995?
I think so.
I will come back to cover Sonic 3 and Donkey Kong Kong Country, the results will be very interesting to see!
Ah! So THAT'S why Sonic CD doesn't feel very nice to control, cus it's based off Sonic 1! The improvements in the control of Sonic 2 while subtle were a huge improvement!
Yeah and it used the sonic 1 sprite which felt out of place.
