- If you are trying to retire early, or just retire at some point, you will ask yourself if you should pay off the mortgage early or invest in the stock market. And this is a tough questions. It's not as simple as looking at the interest rate on your mortgage and the average returns of the stock market.
I think you can do both… but we LOVE being debt free! There has been no greater feeling not being tied down to the debt. We aren’t completely FI, but we could not work for many years and be fine. That weight off of us was life changing.
Debt free is the way to go when around 50. If you're lucky and can do it, just do it. Then start the savings and stock market.
Yea, I'm FI but I do have a mortgage on my primary residence. But I've been able to pay off 2 of my rental properties. I'm ready to be debt free on the main house.

Debt can really boost your wealth, but you have use it right. Debt also made me go broke in 2008.
